If you're going to put in the effort, why not make Baldur's Gate 2 in NWN2?

    ...you're kidding me, right?

Your first reaction to something like this is "pffft, that's dumb"?

Because seriously, who gives a fuck? It's a mod he put seven god damned years into, it's probably because he really liked the original and wanted to remake it.

I'll be the first to admit that my love of BG2 is completely unreasonable, but yeah, that was really the first thing - why not remake a better game?

Although I guess it makes sense that the one guy wouldn't want to spend 30 years or whatever remaking a much bigger game

that's actually really cool. I wonder how it stacks up against the recent re-release. i bet it's a lot better? since it would have more functionality.

maybe because BG2 had like a billion times the content of BG1.

    I'd rather just boot-up BG1.

The idea of messing with anything other than an isometric engine for the BG games is alien to me.
Baldur's Gate games have aged really well; such that this isn't a hindrance.

for me the draw would be playing BG with an updated D&D ruleset

This is insane. I must play it

yeah it would be cool to play a version of BG that actually has a good reason for playing a paladin

(though BG:EE already made a good case for that)

I have beaten BG2 numerous times but even though I own like 2 copies of BG1, I've never gotten far in it

god I wish I had the time to play it this way

is this mod complete enough to give a full BG1 experience if you've never played the original?

I've done a lot of shit in the NWN2 toolset, and I honestly do not understand how the people responsible for this did not kill themselves before they finished the module. My hat is so off. I can never wear a hat again. Dear God.

Making a mod like this in any engine is an incredible feat, but making ONE AREA in the Aurora toolset is fucking herculean. Just getting the tiles to snap together in a large indoor area or getting the ground textures to look good in an outdoor area is preposterously difficult. These guys deserve a medal, a lifetime achievement award, and a plaque to hang them on.
