The combat isn't particularly fun but it's been a non-issue for me so far. Although I don't think I've got to any of the fabled "locked in a room with 50 dudes, kill them to escape" parts yet.

The encounter that's mentioned in the negative reviews I've read involves a bunch of dudes waiting for an elevator... and (now that I've finished the story) that fabled moment turned out to be exactly that: a fable. I had to take out, like, two out of the lot of them and then a route opened for me to escape. Whole thing lasted twenty seconds, thirty tops.

I don't remember which one the elevator one is but there are multiple situations that lock you in rooms with multiple waves of baddies that are required and that's what most reviews I saw were upset about.

The reviews that I read that mentioned the locked room and required combat to proceed counted the total number of those encounters. Turns out there are three of those. Now, there are those who will say that's three too many...but, for me, that's not nearly enough to kill the game.

Thanks to Prime Day, I was able to get this for a cool $26 after tax. It came in today

I'll pop it in later, I've tempered my expectations

    This game is

    Bad

What's worse, it has me wondering if Mirror's Edge was ever actually good, or if I was just won over by the novelty at the time (although fuck the combat in this, the first game's was definitely better)

I don't think I'm going to open that can of worms

I think I'm just going to look at Mirror's Edge 1 as a fond memory and look at this as a sequel that missteps in just about every way

At least I got to give it a go for essentially free

Spent $26, GameStop is giving $20 in trade which means the local game shop will certainly give a little bit more for it

    It's just, urgh

The platforming wasn't always this clunky, was it? I could swear it wasn't. It used to feel almost effortless, here I feel like there's a weight holding you back everywhere you go, which is not the kind of feeling I want in a first-person platforming game. I don't want sluggishness

Combat is bad but I knew that from the beta

The side missions are all the same thing, just dressed up differently. This game would kill for the variety of Assassin's Creed 1

And the framerate is all over the damn place

And I don't care about the story because they are giving me no reason to care. I actually like reboots (heh, I just mentioned that in SE++) but you can't just launch into your reboot and expect me to instantly know what's up with/care about these characters, that's a privilege that only sequels get

The best thing I can say about it is that the soundtrack seemed fine and the art direction is still spot on, I love the look of this game. Otherwise, I'm glad I spend essentially no money on it

You might just need to spend more time familiarizing with the controls and movement nuances. I had some trouble with it at first, but after spending a few hours at it and getting most/all of the movement upgrades, the movement felt great.

I should really get back to doing the side missions and collectibles, but every time I log in a see another Beat LE from @Vagabond or @dinoarus I need to find, or billboard I need to reclaim. The other day I spent a good twenty minutes trying to reach one of their Beat LEs only to realize it was... one of mine. Whoops!

Haha, I was going to post the same thing. I've not put much more time in but I'm really enjoying it, even with a not fully maxed out Faith I'm feeling the movement and platforming is pretty good.

I've not noticed much in the way of framerate issues but the draw distance can sometimes be a bit of an issue on PS4, textures just seem to suddenly load in. Not a major issue for me though and certainly not all the time.

Yeah, the upgrades make it a lot better. Which is sad, because it's really annoying to unlock skills to make the game play properly.

But, yeah, the story and aesthetic are just terrible. What made the 1st one work with what little it had was it being believably near future. Like, it's pretty hard for me to believe that Faith and the other runners are 'off grid' when there are drones flying everywhere. And you'd think security cameras would still exist in a dystopian police state.

They're all over the place. I must've shorted out three hundred of those damn things so I could actually DO the covert deliveries.

I'd wait until your computer is working again. Supposedly the console versions have really bad level of detail streaming problems

Are you sure it wasn't the one where you unknowingly placed one of yours like 10 feet away from mine? Bauble Mall Blues
