What is Yoga?

Yoga is a practice which seeks to develop unity of the body and mind through a process of exercise, breathing, and meditation.

Why should I care?
Wiki wrote:
Long-term yoga practitioners in the United States have reported musculoskeletal and mental health improvements, as well as reduced symptoms of asthma in asthmatics. Regular yoga practice increases brain GABA levels and has been shown to improve mood and anxiety more than some other metabolically matched exercises, such as walking. The three main focuses of Hatha yoga (exercise, breathing, and meditation) make it beneficial to those suffering from heart disease. Overall, studies of the effects of yoga on heart disease suggest that yoga may reduce high blood pressure, improve symptoms of heart failure, enhance cardiac rehabilitation, and lower cardiovascular risk factors. For chronic low back pain, specialist Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs has been found 30% more beneficial than usual care alone in a UK clinical trial. Other smaller studies support this finding. The Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs programme is the dominant treatment for society (both cheaper and more effective than usual care alone) due to 8.5 fewer days off work each year. A research group from Boston University School of Medicine also tested yoga’s effects on lower back pain. Over twelve weeks, one group of volunteers practiced yoga while the control group continued with standard treatment for back pain. The reported pain for yoga participants decreased by one third, while the standard treatment group had only a five percent drop. Yoga participants also had a drop of 80% in pain medication use.

There has been an emergence of studies investigating yoga as a complementary intervention for cancer patients. Yoga is used for treatment of cancer patients to decrease depression, insomnia, pain, and fatigue and increase anxiety control. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs include yoga as a mind-body technique to reduce stress. A study found that after seven weeks the group treated with yoga reported significantly less mood disturbance and reduced stress compared to the control group. Another study found that MBSR had showed positive effects on sleep anxiety, quality of life, and spiritual growth in cancer patients.

Yoga has also been studied as a treatment for schizophrenia. Some encouraging, but inconclusive, evidence suggests that yoga as a complementary treatment may help alleviate symptoms of schizophrenia and improve health-related quality of life.

Implementation of the Kundalini Yoga Lifestyle has shown to help substance abuse addicts increase their quality of life according to psychological questionnaires like the Behavior and Symptom Identification Scale and the Quality of Recovery Index.

Yoga has been shown in a study to have some cognitive functioning (executive functioning, including inhibitory control) acute benefit.

Go get bendy, it's good for you.

Also, you meet some interesting people

Yeah, she wants to play a Jane Bond/ Tamsin Crown Affair type character with an emphasis on social combat rather than physical. So Leverage seemed like a good fit.

Water Lightning Serpent colossus was pretty cool.

I like that the water in this game is apparently just an endless, black abyss with no visible life; there's something very viscerally terrifying about that, but maybe it's just me. I also like that the water sits atop old flooded ruins. Like I'm pretty sure this game is set in Purgatory.

Also the Voice of God said the giant under the temple was "no fool," but he fell for the same silly mechanic repeatedly -- as have all the other colossi.

I did my work earlier. It involved discovering my SR didn't break anything, it was someone else's work.

Ah, never really pursued chemistry past the basics needed for a degree. So that would explain why I've never heard it (although Cisalpine, when pronounced "siss" is a word I've heard).

Personally I think it's very strange. If you wanna be called a woman, I'll call you a woman, if you wanna be called a man, I'll call you a man. If you wanna tell me your transgendered, I'll nod and smile. I don't particularly care what kind of junk you have in your naughty place, and I don't think anyone else should care either. Gender is so intensely personal, making a big to-do about other's gender just seems like such a silly battle.

    But that's just me.

Couple points. Cis-gender tends to up turn:
    1) in discussions specifically about gender, because it an accurate neutral term that doesn't require any assumptions be made.

    2) in academia and feminist dialogue, because it rejects default 'normal' gender roles, display and identity.

    3) on crap like dating site, where people are specifically talking about their identity and preferences. Do you want to date transwomen? Are you bisexual, but strongly prefer people in the women born with vaginas, transwomen and transmen over straight men born with cocks? or what the hell ever. cisgendered has some raw utility.

It sort also sort of is a linguistic barrier to entry/implies involvement and interest in LGBT/feminist issues. If someone uses the term, it sort of implies a bunch of other things about them and their views. This sort of ties into 2 and 3.

They moistly come out at night, moistly.

I stopped following Gabe on Twitter. Honestly, it was more the fact that his Twitter is boring than anything. As to the larger issue, he I think he has shown he's dumb about people in general.

    *shrug*

the thing that gets me, and it got me with dickwolves and it got me with tentacle bento and it gets me now, is that he doesn't seem to realize that he is a figurehead for a business which is very prominent in nerd circles

saying dumb shit is fine (within reason), everyone does that

but when you say dumb shit and then react to people claling you on it like gabe tends to, that reflects badly on you and as a result on the business, and you/he should probably try not to do that

and then you have shit like this panel

    omi4yif.png

and i become very glad that i don't read the comic at all ever and that i just stick to the forums
