Oh yeah, I'd probably do bog standard werewolf/mafia with a few specials.
But having a bunch of fancy narration ready every day and answering hundreds of PMs seems like a lot of logistics, hence my interest in how past hosts have had success managing.
In general the host doesn't have to answer a pile of PMs unless you have a bunch of weird roles and hidden rules
Hosting a normal game is pretty simple in general, for the most part you just collect orders, answer a few questions and write some narrations and verify the vote count. The narration isn't that hard, just restate what happened, put it in whatever your game's theming is and people will be happy, and the simpler the game the easier to host both because less is going on and people will ask fewer questions
I'm pretty sure it took six hours to eight hours of work after day zero for my first phalla, and usually 2-3 hours every night after that. But it was, uh, not a vanilla phalla.

Man I just read through that game again and it was super fun and also I made many bad decisions.

Was that the rule editing phalla? That was a fun one
Both of my first two were rule editing phallas. The first one was a D&D phalla where the village specials got to ask "clarifying questions" that in fact changed or established rules. Everybody else picked a name and a quirk, and I designed powers and (sometimes) limitations associated with those quirks, which was just an enormous amount of work it turned out. The mafia won that one after, among other things, a day 1 seer call by @ObiFett, through use of their own question power, which allowed them to hide the existence of the last mafia.
My post-game discussion is available here.
My second phalla was the one I think you're remembering; that one I hosted with Mill, and it had a rigorous set of rules which were all sorted and established to begin and then the vote was allowed to change it. That one got even crazier than the first one. That one is here.

Putting together the touches on a game, but I have a busy weekend, so I might not be able to start signups til next week, it will be multi-factional chaos and totally very balanced.

I was thinking about running a game, but I don't want to step on any toes and I'm also fairly busy.

I once won a game of mafia by making silly faces during the mafia's turn and they started giggling so I said "Yeah, Sergei was giggling during the mafia turn so it's proooooooooobably him."
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Phalla are run very sporadically and are not attracting many players. we are well past the days of an 80 person game and two 20 person games running concurrently, unfortunately.
My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)

I would sign up.
I think you can get 20-30 if you are willing to wait a few days and @ some people... There aren't as many eyes on the signup thread or the forum anymore. And waiting will be fine because there won't be another host pressuring you to start asap.
I keep meaning to run a game but I'm tired. I blame the children.
Also good to see you back here. Thanks again for your help getting my first big game balanced!
That's a shame but also, realistically, I was utterly mad trying to run 70-player Oops, All Specials type games. I think the first Phallakinetic was a 25 player mini, iirc? So maybe we can get something like that off the ground
... Unless we do, impossibly, get 70 people again in case fuck it why not go out with a bang

Time to bring the original Murderbot out of retirement.

I only got into Phalla in 2023, but they seem pretty rad, especially with you fine folks holding my hand and helping me learn.
Im turning this thread into a phalla chat thread sorry but god kime your team (legion?) coming back as a death bot is one of the greatest moments ive ever read thru in a classic phalla
It's okay; Somehow I've managed to dismiss the sticky on this thread, so I have to aim to get it to page 100 to fix the issue, so your chatting is appreciated.

Second query: purely hypothetically, if it is, could I sign up (even if it takes me a month or two again) to run another Phallakinetic
No idea what the player base is like now. Far less than it was before.
Maybe 20?

Mere idea must have been so disgusting to him that he came back just to do it himself. I never even got to ask
I would rejoice to see it back, but yeah the player count won't be what it was in the golden days
