Pinny Arcade - Pinny Pal Community thread

I totally agree Beker. With the way the staff seems to have a real connection to the pin trading, I bet they would fully endorse/retweet the information, and possibly join in like you said.
Other than that, yeah GTA5 is where I'll be a lot shortly.
Never Forget!
Pretty sure we discussed this awhile back. It would be a few meet-ups during PAX just like the buttoneering group (and others) do. One time is after the Omegathon finals. Nothing is being planned yet because we don't know the schedule to plan around the larger panels that most would attend.

Sounds like an awesome idea.
I'd suggest that in a couple of months (Maybe January or February?) we put our heads together to come up with 1 or 2 times per day to meetup (possibly in the queue room). Once we have those I (or Beker or another enforcer) can reach out to PA staff and/or line entertainment to ask if some PA staff/line entertainment could drop by around those time(s). Maybe it could even be part of the schedule/program if Dave Coffman is willing. At the very least it'll give us all a place to meet up and trade.
Just my .02¢
1. Will the Staff have any DLC Pins to trade at PAX East/Aus?
No we have none left. All DLC pins are now in the wild.
2. Of the 300 DLC Pins made, 245 went to backers. Did Staff get any? Were any used to replace “lost in the mail” Pins? How many were given away at Prime?
About 15 were traded away at PAX Prime.
3. How do you feel about people offering such large sums ($1,000) for the DLC Pin, and people refusing to sell it?
I'm glad people are so passionate about the pins!
4. Will there be another DLC Kickstarter, and if yes will there be a Pin, and if yes, will it be the same design but with a different year?
No there will not be another DLC Kickstarter. Limited Pin is Limited
5. Acquisitions Set. Omin, Binwin, Jim and Aeofel with a Skeleton-Face Chris Perkins was brought up before. What about a Viari as well? (Personal note, I would love to see AI upped to 6 people, you and Jerry, Scott, Wil, Patrick and if she is willing, Felicia Day. If you can swing that, then obviously a 7 Pin Set is required. I think if you have seen her on Tabletop bringing Dr. Hanna to life, or watched any Co-Optitude like Mariokart that kind of imagination and enthusiasm is fantastic. Plus when she’s excited she cusses more than all of you combined. Except for Wil in an Acid Pit.)
We are working on an AI set and it is planned for end of the year.
6. The Behemoth Little Guy Pin: gone forever, or will we see him in the future?
That's up to Behemoth. Given it was a manufacturing issue, I take this to mean Behemoth could request this character in a second Set run if they choose to participate again
7. Behemoth Pins in general: Same at East as at Prime, or new ones, or none at all? (Personal note, there is something strangely satisfying about those machines. Coins, crank, prize. It’s like grinding mobs for Pins, only without the squishiness and ribcages.)
Also up to Behemoth.
8. What is the mechanic behind vendor Pins? Are the undistributed Pins kept by them, or handed back to you for Blind boxes? If they are kept, can we expect to see them at a future PAX, or some other promo event by the vendor?
Hand selected vendors are given a limited allocation of pins, but they're given the choice to distribute them as they'd like (within reason). It is up to the individual vendor to decide how and where the pins are released. We will do our best to let you all know those details. So for those of you missing Vendor Pins, you can always write and request one, worst they can say is no. It also means they could give away Pins at a non-PA event
9. With some Pins stamped 2012 and some 2013, there is already a subculture of collectors who are getting every year of every Pin. Was this intentional, and can we expect to see large amounts of the same Pin designs with different years?
It was not intentional. It was simply that we started making the pins in 2012. Some early sets had to get re-stocked in 2013. There is no master plan behind the years. They simply inform you of the year your pin was made. If Pin Pals decide to make that an important factor when trading it is up to you guys.
10. A few Enforcers are Pinthusiasts, but don’t know the etiquette for collecting/trading whilst on the job. Whilst I know you wouldn’t want to give them an unfair advantage, those who have posted have said they would like to help non-E collectors by using their access to snag some of the more elusive Staff. What’s the best way to address this?
We are aware that there are Enforcers who love pin trading and we have made it clear to them they they are to follow the same rules as everyone else when trading at PAX.
11. How many 15th Anniversary Pins are being made?
2000 were made, of which about 1900 will be released. And then no more will be made, ever.
12. Will we see a Child Play Pin? Can all the proceeds go to charity? (Personal note, I would understand if all the profits went to charity. Manufacturing and distribution costs, blah business blah)
We are very careful about keeping Child's Play separate from the things we do at Penny Arcade. With that said we are considering it.
13. Finally, a series of suggestions for Pins that people want to know if you will be making in the future. Yes, No, or an approximate year will do. Few of us can afford all of these coming out at once, plus it’s nice to have something to look forward to.
a. Div is already a yes, can we assume he will be drunk and wearing a Santa hat?
b. Sand set
c. Automata set (Personal note, I would love that one, I picture Carl, Regal, the Automata logo and "No Heart, No Soul, No Service" in English and Clickwise)
d. Charles (Personal note, I know you said you wanted to redesign him, so I don’t expect that any time soon. He hasn’t been in the comic in what, 3 years?)
e. Frank
f. Armadeddon Jim and Zombie Friend
g. Porkfry (Personal note, Pork needs a PAX trading Pin, maybe a Daytime Pork and Pork After Dark?)
h. Belruel wren emblem/shield
i. Rex Ready
j. Something from the Elemenstor Saga? I want an ambulatory dresser pin so bad (Personal note, you could use this to cause the ELotH:TES community conniptions by making something that “breaks canon”)
k. An Eyrewood Bestiary set featuring the monsters of the Lookouts world. I would also love them to make an actual book with pictures and ecologies (Personal note, this is another Jerry project that would go down a storm. I’m already seeing a battered, leather-bound tome 3/4-inch thick, 7-8 inches high and 5-6 inches wide, designed to be carried in a pocket for easy access. Sketches of the beasts done in the old D&D style where you get the impression rather than something accurate. Maybe even empty spaces, and we could bring it to PAX for you to sketch in. Unique book for everyone.)
Thanks for the awesome suggestions I'll put all of these down in my pin idea sketchbook! So he basically went Yoink!
The previous FAQ is found in the Spoilers.
This year. Not sure if that means before Christmas or within 12 months. Personally I hope for a Div drunk on Egg Nog wearing a Santa Hat.
2. Can we have a Dropbear Pin for Aus?
Yes for sure!
3. Will there be an Acquisitions Inc Set with Omin, Binwin, Jim and Aeofel with a Skeleton-Face Chris Perkins?
Yes. Maybe even the Kool-Aid Goblin? Watch the latest if you don't get the reference
4. Will there be a RainSlick set with a Necrowombicon? (Personally I’d like to see Annarchy, Jim-in-a-Jar, Cthulu-mime and the Startling Developments logo in addition to The Brute and The Scholar)
Not planned currently but a great idea.
5. When will we see the Shadow Boxes?
2014 My guess is they will coincide with the release of Series 2, so Series 1 is complete, locked and can't have last minute additions that ruin the box layout
6. Will StripSearch Pins be at East/Aus 2014?
Each strip searcher got 100 pins to do with as they please. So I have no idea. Given that most Pins went by the end of PAX, and few Strippers are likely to make it out to East/Aus I think the odds are remote. A quick survey via twitter is probably the best way to find out the answer for sure.
7. When is the Lookout Set coming to the store?
Should happen this month.
8. When will we get Blind Boxes, and will they just be traded Pins or will they have new Pins in them?
2014 and I don't know for sure yet. Jerry's latest news post mentions the Pins being sanitised for inclusion in said boxes
9. Will we get a Pin Pals Pin, and would you consider letting us design it?
I like this idea let me think about it. Personally I think it will be a case of a community design competition and the winner gets Krahulik-ed so the styles don't clash
10. Do you have a list of which Pins currently available at Prime will be available at PAX East and Aus? Could you put information on the Pinny Arcade page which shows information such as the expected “lifespan” of the Pin, the number produced and the “Pin years” on the back?
I'll get that info up ASAP. Sorry for increasing your workload Erika.

How many different 3rd party pins are you allowing per PAX?
Will you keep first party show specific pins to one set per PAX?
Are you keeping first party annual (not show specific i.e. staff pins, CTS, Merch, etc) pins to around 16 pins?
(basically all these questions amount to: is it going to be possible to continue to collect pins in the future? Cause if you release 80 pins per PAX that'd be impossible)
back to games, of the games mentioned, have splinter cell blacklist PC, diablo3 (curious to do a hardcore run with someone) Monaco is fun too. Otherwise i too have a big game list, so keep suggesting ideas people!

I'll put these on the list. My own response to the first party show-specific pin question is that the Lookouts set was launched in addition to the Prime set, so I can imagine that if the overall plan is to have one new Pin or Set per month, you should expect the ones for a PAX month launched at PAX, and added to the store later in the way that Lookouts has/is/will be.
how many 3rd part pins per PAX? Well from all that I read, everyone wanted in on it. So I could see that number potentially creep up over time. But I think that one of the goals is to have good designs on the Pins. Some of the ones that were not part of Pinny Arcade are just the game or studio logo. Decidedly meh. I'm sure that they won't release a glut of 3rd party for every booth, because all these take design time. There isn't one PA Pin I look at and think "Meh, could have been better." Hidden Path's Jin is the closest, just because I didn't care for the game (Minecraft knock-off, with ostensibly some plot). Defense Grid 2 on the other hand, I played so much they kept recognising me.
First party annual, I would imagine it could go to more than 16. The Acquisitions Set is slated for this year, which I assume is before Christmas rather than a 12 month window. So is Div, we have a Daughters (Pin or Set?) this month, the 15th Anniversay and a Halloween set. If they just released 4 sets of 4 a year, that hits your 16 limit. I think that they are going to release roughly one "thing" a month for a while, either an individual Pin or a Set. Given the Sets are typically $30, I think the individual Pins are going to be around the $5 or $10 mark.
Official responses will be forthcoming when I put the next FAQ together. I'll probably do that at the end of the month.

How many show specific 3rd party pins will you have at each show? (example: the eight behemoth pins from Prime 2013)
Will you continue to have only one first party show specific pins per show?
Are you keeping first party trade only (not purchasable) annual pins (i.e. staff pins, Pinny Arcade logo, etc) to around 16 pins?
The pins you can buy online later (like lookouts) don't make me as nervous, I can just buy them through their store. I'm interested in how hard it will be to be completionist for people who can't go to all their shows (like me).
The second and third questions are still a touch confusing. How about:
Will you do just one PAX-specific Pin Set at each event, or are there plans for multiple Sets per event?
Are you keeping the Penny Arcade Staff/Enforcer Pins to one per Staff member?

I've been a PAX East attendee for 3 years ('11, '12, '13) and joined the Pinny craze when it first started up, my first set being the PAX 2013 pins.
I consider myself an 'enthusiast', since I could live without every Pin...but I really like the trading.
The pins I have right now are...
-PAX East 2013 Logo
-Chandra PAX East 2013
-Fruit Fucker (Core Set)
-Tycho (Core Set)
-Flesh Reaper (Core Set)
...Yeeeeah, I traded my East ones for core pins. Probably not the brightest move, but hey, I was caught up in the hype!
Hope to see you guys around. I miiiight do some trading for Aus pins, but I'd like to wait for the trading site to open up first.

EDIT: nvm. thought they meant a different thread. guess thats a "no" to my question. unless there'd be interest in starting up a 3rd level?
I don't think they meant that it is limited. I got out of it that if there are people who want to start(and knowing that there are no PAX's going on currently) that they could get it in the store and start a collection. Also, with that, since it is online only if they went to a PAX event then they would have something that wasn't there. I think that they know that there are a lot of people that are getting into the pins and I know from previous posts they are trying to dissuade people from spending a ton on them places like Ebay.
Just my two cents though. I'm a newbie to Penny Arcade in general so I'm still getting a feel for their personalities a bit, so anyone who knows better feel free to correct me.
The levels of collectors I ran into pretty much fell into three categories.
Casual:- "What's this? Oh, that's cool. I'll keep any I find, but it's not why I'm here."
Enthusiastic:- "I know I can't get them all, but I'll get as many as I can find."
Hardcore:- "If I don't get every single Pin, my brain-squirrels will cause me pain."
We have only been listing the Enthusiastic and Hardcore because the Casuals are so...casual about it.
You seem to be around the Enthusiastic level, just with a very specific goal. Talk to people on that level about setting up a group. I'm sure that if you collect the stuff they are after they will get you what you need. just because you only want the PAX Sets doesn't stop you from swinging by a booth and grabbing the Pin they want.
How each group tracks, handles and balances the trades is up to them. No doubt they each have something in place. For our group, we use a standard credit system.
I just went and collected 137 Pins at PAX Prime. NHH and Manic get 43 of those each. Manic is sending me an Aus set and Chandra Aus, so he only owes me 38 Pins. NHH is sending me a 2013 Core set and a 2013 CTS. He also owes 38 instead of 43 Pins.
So when East rolls around, NHH will be collecting for all 3 of us. If he gets me more than 38, then he's in credit for Prime. If not, he will still owe me in Pins.
It works better than trying to add up a dollar amount for everything spent and traded. And if it turns out that one PAX has consistently fewer Pins because it is smaller, then that person can make up the difference by being in charge of the online sets that seem destined to be released every month or so.
With three people working together it makes Hardcore collecting much more viable. The ability to cover for each other in different time zones, spot trades that your Pin Pal needs, and allow them to make use of your trade pool (Manic needed a Merch 2013. I had 2 spares.) means you will all have a greater chance of getting everything.

Really I don't think that Hardcore is just about having every Pin ever (although there are those that do) but more of the "I will be collecting everything from here on out, because the brain-squirrels demand it." The group you are in are going to do the same, so knowing that you are going to put the same level of effort in that they are is key. For example, at Prime some people were able to hunt down Staff on Thursday night. Some people got a complete Prime Haul by Saturday. Others were done by Sunday night. All of them are Hardcore collectors, and I know that several of them don't have the DLC. As time goes on, that is going to be a more common case.
Enthusiast level groups are more "I want to get the Behemoth sets because I love those designs" or "I want the Staff heads because I'm just collecting the PA Pins". They are going to have...shopping lists, I guess. Provided the person at that PAX makes a good attempt to grab what the other two people are after, they are going to be happy with the arrangement. But they are going to understand if you skipped getting the Sony Pin because the line was too long, or you only had a Sunday/Monday pass and certain booths ran out. Hardcore groups are going to be relying on getting the 3day or 4day passes.

I have to recommend you buy different backs for your pins so they don't fall off. I bought these off ebay and so far they have served me well (hold on pretty tightly).
Also I just bought a pin album from safe. Figured it's the best way to make the pins portable and still look nice. The guy I spoke to on the phone was incredibly knowledgeable and the album looks great from the pictures. If people are interested I can give impressions when it comes.
Ooh the albums look great. I'd definitely be interested in your impressions once it arrives.
