    Magic Find Removed
    Hello folks,

It's been a while, I've been off in Treasure Goblin land trying to get Reaper of Souls into shape. I wanted to stop by to give everyone some insight into what we are doing with Magic Find. For those of you who have heard me talk on the topic before you are probably already aware that MF is something we haven't been thrilled with for quite a while. The idea of MF is great "GET ALL THE THINGS!" the reality of it however is incredibly problematic and leads to more negative effects than positive ones. Getting the reward rate of the game to a place we are happy with is a difficult tuning process and when we try to add MF into the equation is creates a bit of a dilemma, one that was already pointed out in the thread, how do you balance the game to feel good for someone with 0% MF vs someone with 300% MF. Ultimately the answer to that question is "You can't" as such we have been trying to phase MF out of the game as much as possible.

In addition to changing exactly how MF interacts with finding items we also have dramatically reduced it's existence throughout the game. Having strong characters already equates into finding more items, both by virtue of killing things faster and also by virtue of playing in higher difficulties, which still do have rewards associated with them. Because of all of this we decided to not only remove MF as an affix from gear but also change exactly how MF interacts with different item qualities. MF will apply 100% of its benefit to Blue items, 30% to Yellow items, and 10% to Legendary and Set items. This means someone with 300% MF will end up finding roughly 30% more Legendary and Set items than someone with 0%. The design intent is to make things like Topaz gems in helmets or the Nagel Ring an option without them actually being mandatory.

I hope this helps clear the air and as the expansion moves further and further into its development cycle I'll start climbing out of this portal more frequently to answer questions.

Yeah. As much fun as I'm having derping about Cleaving things to pieces all decked out in Legendaries of Awesomeness that would've taken me ages to get on the PC I'm really just ready for a new class and new content. Still though, cleavy EXPLOSIONS!

Thank you! It is a nice little thread. Luckily, our community is quite awesome and responsive, so they helped make those OPs the go-to source for pretty much anything anyone wants to know about Animal Crossing.

Hopefully we can make the D3 thread as good! I'll be adding much more content when I get home. If people know of links, graphs, guides that ought to be in the OP just @_J_ and I can add them to the appropriate section.

I was trying to remember if other expansions had this much content spoiled prior to release. WoW tended to spoil most of the content, as I recall.

Good to see that speedy Whirlwind is getting nixed. Any skill/rune with such an immediate impact on your farming speed is always going to be a must have. Sprint also needs a cooldown IMO.

    If it doesn't, who cares?

A flat number is arguably more interesting because it's better in certain situations. It will suck if it doesn't scale from MP0 to MP10 at level 70 though.

A flat number that scales may as well be a %.

    Inferno build so far

Went to the AH and bought Echoing Fury, giving me 19% chance to fear on hit. Add Snake to the Face for a 30% chance to stun and the fatty with Bruiser rune and I'll keep shit locked down.

No, because at MP10 you have fast attacking enemies and slow attacking enemies, mob packs and individual bosses, etc. A percentage mitigates all damage equally - a flat amount mitigates much more against fast attackers. They could also make the flat amount scale based on your stats rather than enemy damage for the same effect.

Not really. A % gives you only one curve. A more complex equation can give you a power curve that better matches what you are after.

So I just did Whimseyshire on the console. I forgot how much I hated that abomination.

Whimsyshire was just a quick funny gag. I think it's for the best they didn't make it a great place to farm, in the interests of not turning the day-to-day gameplay into literally a joke.

I'm stuck wondering how quick this will be on XBL Games on Demand. I'm done buying discs for the most part, and this seems like a game that's be great to have on the HD all the time. I know SR4 and the X-com:The Bureau showed up like 2 weeks later, so hopefully soon.

    Please be soon...

How many more D3 threads will we get through before RoS releases? I'm thinking at least two?

Edit: Yeah, I always turn off the music when I'm in Whimsyshire.

If it applies after all other damage reduction, then it already sort of scales.

I am glad to see they're not pussying around with mechanical changes to skills, both nerfing stupid OP stuff like double whirlwind, and also adding some zest to neglected skills/runes.

Each enemy killed while in Archon form increases your damage by 3% for the remaining duration of Archon.

    RIP Archon
Frozen Orb : Create an orb of frozen death that shreds an area with ice bolts, dealing up to 100% weapon damage as Cold to enemies it pierces through and up to 150% weapon damage as Cold when it bursts.

I just hope they add a visual effect to the teleport portion of Thunderclap so that it doesn't just feel like you're rubberbanding all over the screen.

    Things I noted:

    1) Both WotB and Archon lost their "extend this effect by X seconds" thing.

    2) ALot of healing-type spells seem to have had "Increased by your +Health Globe stat" added to them.

  • Options
    ScosglenScosglen Registered User regular
Yeah I was just noticing the healing skills keying off +health globe myself. I'm all for finding cool ways to make formerly unpopular mods more interesting.

Cool, now there will be 5 viable rune choices for FoT.

And 15 nonviable rune choices for the other 3 primary attacks. ;)

Welp. I guess I need to try that perma-WoTB build before it gets nerfed on console too.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I really like everything I'm hearing about the xpac. Came back to this a few months ago after playing at launch and it was much improved. And now the xpac/patch looks to improve it even more.

The Crusader is the class I wanted in from the beginning. Hopefully it'll hit this year.
