Someone smashed my window last night by throwing a propane tank through it.
They took an old backpack of mine, broke the center console even though it was unlocked, same with the glove box.
But hey, they left me a trash bag to clean up AND the propane tank! What luck!

@FAQ agreeing with you that you both need to want the same thing in long-distance. I wasn't sure Boy would initially with me being the older of the two of use but we both want to make things work and I'm really happy with our relationship, I'm very lucky.
you've got a good 40 years on the lad but bless him, he knows not to show his back to a hungry cougar
Hahaha that sounds an awful lot like what he'd say!
you bring it up with him because it is a courtesy to your friend. you are correct that he shouldn't have any problem with whatever happens, but people are often irrational when it comes to relationships.
if you don't think telling a friend is necessary, that's fine. i have, and would again, do exactly what i proposed because the friend who's ex i was interested in was more important to me than the potential relationship with the ex.
I'm confused here.
That last paragraph reads like if they had a problem with it you wouldn't pursue the relationship, which goes against what you said above about them not being the arbiter?
I can see how it reads that way, sorry. My friend had no problem with it, so it wasn't an issue. If he did have a problem, I'm not sure what I would have done. Luckily, my personal choices don't really matter for the purpose of this discussion.

I think you're looking at this in a sort of backwards way
Like, it's weird to keep any sort of dating relationship secret, because it implies wrongdoing
So naturally your friend would know about the relationship by virtue of you not dating his sister behind his (or anyone else's) back
The natural thing that happens when you date a person is that people know you are dating that person
There is no scenario where one would need to ask a girl's best friend if it'd be cool to date her, or a "Hey just running this by you, I'm gonna go out with this girl, okay?", so I'm not sure why being related would change that in any significant way
I'm not sure I understand exactly what it is you are trying to argue here, but like I said if you don't see the point in what I'm saying then that is fine. Different strokes etc.
My post wasn't meant to be a brainteaser
Basically if you wanna have a conversation with your friend about dating his sister then fine, but it is neither owed him nor is it a shitty dick move to date his sister without running it by him, and if he has an issue with it that says far more about him than it does about you
Switch the gender roles around, and if my sister got mad that her friend was dating me without asking for her blessing I would be pretty pissed off at my sister
Then I guess we are in agreement...? I (wrongly) assumed more people would be on board with asking the friend first, but I never said it was owed/necessary. And I agree that if the friend has an issue then it says more about them.
I can see how you might've gotten the impression that I was referring to male-male friendships only, but I was not.

i don't really have any friends in NYC where I live now
and I realized I don't really know how to make friends
every friend I've ever made has been a person with whom I've shared a lot of incidental activities and the relationship just gradually evolved over time until we liked each other enough to come up with the activities as an excuse to hang out
and when most voluntary social activities you can do cap at about once a week, it becomes really hard to turn that occasional contact into friendship. That's even assuming the people you are playing weekly board games or fun run or jiu jitsu or bocce-ing with even like you enough to want to do that. And most of them already have a circle of friends anyway, what do you bring to the table?
I have two friends. It's not even like a "I have two close friends and....". I have two friends.
One lives in Berlin, and is back home maybe 6 weeks a year, and while I get to see her once, maybe twice during each visit, she (understandably) spends almost the entire time with
The other friend - her boyfriend, who studies full time and works more than full time, so I get to hang out with him maybe once every 2 or so months, generally slightly higher rates than I see the first friend.
Last night I had a dream about a beautiful, super intelligent dog.
I'm not even a dog person.
What do I doooooooooo
quit your job and set off to find this dog. The universe has shown you a quest.
Yeah I'm considering devoting my life to dog breeding so if I can't find this dog, I can create it.
This dog must exist.
She had ice blue eyes, akin to those of a Husky, long luscious fur, akin to that of a Collie, adorable face akin to that of a Labrador. The coat was a beige with black roots, peppered with white.

My social life sucks.
I only have one friend! Ha!
All my friends kind of slowly disappeared as a result of both parties being dick bags to each other.

A couple weeks ago, I went out to my car only to find somebody already inside it. I drive a '90 accord, so it was unsurprising (a stern look will pop the locks), and I don't keep anything valuable in there anymore, but the guy still felt the need to get out, punch me in the face, and threaten to kill me. It was not fun!

As a grown-up in what I consider a permanent relationship, I've come to realize that "getting a crush on someone" means I've just found a person of the opposite sex I'm hella stoked to be friends with, and getting all "ooh but what if I'm secretly in love with them" is about the worst way to ruin having rad friends.
Finding rad people of any gender is hard enough, don't go getting all boners about it and fuck up having sweet pals.
i am not at all nervous about getting married but i am nervous about how quickly it is turning into "a thing"
we've been common-law married for like 4 years already but no one seems to recognize or acknowledge this
also i think sometimes that i may need to up my anxiety medication
but thinking about it makes me anxious
it's still ten times better than it used to be, though
It's pretty cute because she's picking up her crayons and putting them into her crayon box and then picking up the box and going "heavy heavy! Okay! Heavy!"
She LOVES The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The book, and also there's an animated series of short films of Eric Carle's stuff. The first one is, of course, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She's watched it about five times today. At the end when the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, she stands up and applauds.

Your daughter sounds awesome. What are her opinions regarding Goodnight Moon?
So both my cousins got hired by the same tech company which is fantastic for them and they where kind enough to mention that I was in school for the same thing so now I have a reccomendation and a business card.
The problem is I never told my family I failed out of that program a year ago so I'm not qualified!!
Todays also the last day I have to drop out of this class or get another fail on my record thing. Well I can still pass it, with a 52, if I 100% everything in the last 4 weeks. Haha.

she sounds like she knows what's up
Well that explains it.
The trick to getting people to visit Glasgow is that they don't know what it's like!

I need to get my head out of "I don't wanna be a dick" and figure out how to just tear off the band-aid when/if the time comes
