You can make a good argument that Barboza won the second round 10-8 so really it should have ended up with him winning 28-27.
If you can argue that the second round was a borderline 10-8 for Barboza, then the first round is a clear 10-7 for Castillo so really it would still have ended up with a draw 27-27.
Only one judge saw the first round as 10-8 and even that was remarkable even though it was obvious to everybody watching, you're never going to see a 10-7 in MMA, because it's just too fluid as composed to boxing where the rules came from.
in order to get a 10-7 in MMA you'd have to have a fighter who is psychotic enough to murder (like actual homicide) someone in the ring, like maybe paul harris or war machine or something and a ref who will allow it like the people's cecil

This is so true. Look at Edgar/Maynard.
I honestly and truly wish MMA would come up with it's own scoring system or, short of that, actually effectively utilize the one they currently possess. Having a system where the loser of the round gets 9 or less and 9 is generally the only number used (no matter how bad the whooping is) is indicative of 2 things: 1) Judges that don't know what they're doing and/or 2) A broken scoring system.
The commissions need to figure out what's up and do something to fix it.
PAFC Top 10 Finisher in Seasons 1 and 3. 2nd in Seasons 4 and 5. Final 4 in Season 6.
The commissions like to re-use boxing judges and while to us it might seem intuitive to play around with the scoring system and arrive at something different... change scares these people. Top that off with the fact that most of these guys are clearly not bright, and suddenly having to change the numbers you add together is difficult. Before I only had to pick 30, 29, 28 or 27 for each fighter and hope the scores added up. With a new system they would have to re-learn all that.

You're basically arguing that unskilled individuals masquerading as professionals should be allowed to continue to d their jobs because they were there first.

Plus boxing and MMA are nothing alike. There is literally zero reason to use the same scoring rules for both sports.

Actually I was trying to make fun of how stupid the judges are, that something as simple as basic math could prevent them making a scoring change.
Reports are coming in that Bigfoot failed his drugtest for his fight with Hunt
Suspended 9 months and lost the 50.000 bonus
On the plus side, Hunt gets the 50.000 now instead
Reading that article, it seems that the symptoms and treatments for his pituatary cysts caused his testosterone levels to fluctuate, meaning it might not even be his fault for it spiking on the day of the fight.
Also linking that article is giving hits to an asshole reporter
My reading was that he was getting treatment, but his levels were still a bit low in the week before the fight, so the doctor increased his dosage, but went over the top.

But this is beyond the scope of the MMA thread, and we can just agree that the reporter is at least a dick for calling up Hunt in the middle of the night and recording an unagreed-upon interview.
I remember a couple of years ago there was considerable hype right before his UFC debut. Sherdog even wrote a few articles about how he was "finally" coming to the UFC. At the time I looked up the opponents on his record and didn't really understand why he was so highly regarded. Anyway, just now I was looking at Hideo Tokoro's (crazy Japanese janitor who will fight anybody) wiki and low and behold Darren Uyenoyama's name was on the list of his notable wins.
This has been bugging me for a while now. Anybody in the know able to fill me in?

Short story: He's a Gracie black belt. 'Nuff said about overhype machine.
Longer story: He's won BJJ tournaments and is supposed to be a grappling pro. He's defeated notables such as Phil Harris and Kid Yamamoto. Unfortunately like most Gracie specialists in the UFC he ends up being a one trick pony where he loses if he can't take you down.
My graphs are almost done, this is pretty well the final version. I'll start posting them in the coming days, including a chart counting every submission in UFC history, as well as 2013's summary (after the 28th, of course).
Please let me know what you think, especially as far as formatting, readability, or anything else. Feedback extremely welcome! You guys are my test bed before I release to more populated places like Sherdog.
# of events shouldn't matter really, should it? Just number of fights

Big opportunity for Woodley, very cool of Condit to give em that shot. I'm willing to bet he could have said no and they would have let him.

Also this seems to be big MMA news, almost Kaufman-esque

I cannot begin to fathom what the hell happened. Condolences to Camacho's family.
Edit: According to other articles he came back from a competition feeling ill, having chest and arm pains, but he refused to go to a hospital.
Folks if you know anyone who suddenly experiences chest and arm pain, those are symptoms of a heart attack so get them the necessary medical care.

Uhh. At best it would be inadmissible in court.
But you could legally record every conversation you've ever had with no legal consequences.

CA (The state I live in) requires all parties to consent.
Steam Me
And it gets messy between states. And hunt isn't even from the states.
but.

I dunno, I still don't really know what makes him so highly regarded.
I guess I should just watch some of his fights and see for myself. It doesn't help much that his fights are always buried in the prelims though.
I knew it was Kaufman.

That suuuucks
And it doesn't suck, its awesome! Those things fucking hurt!
For my graphs: should I include number of events in that year? I feel like I probably should, because it changes quite a bit over time.
# of events shouldn't matter really, should it? Just number of fights
Here listing the event number makes sense to me, but then that's why I'm putting the question to you guys.
