Hey everyone, it's Jeff Gerstmann from Giant Bomb Dot Com, and I'm here with the latest from the world of video games.
As someone who spent a lot of time playing fighting games in dingy, dangerous arcades through the 90s, I never would've expected to be excited about a new Killer Instinct game!
Back then, the KI franchise was kind of a joke with a dopey combo system that focused more on raw memorization than actual skill.
But here I am! It's 2013, there's a new Killer Instinct for Xbox One, and it's great!
I'm as surprised as anyone!
This reboot keeps the over-the-top announcer and crazy combos, but makes getting out of those combos more interesting, creating mindgames between players, and making for a more modern-feeling fighter.
It might only have six characters right now, but they're handling this League of Legends-style. You can get it for free, or buy the characters you like, or just go ahead and buy it all for 40 bucks.
If you've ever cared about Street Fighter, KI is worth a look.
I gave it a 4 out of 5.

Mr. Gerstmann?
Steam
It took longer trying to figure out which one would be funniest than actually transcribing it
On the first try!
How is the last boss fight in comparison to that one?
Oh FUCK

They actually called it that in a line.
I giggled.
None of my initials are G
You should wreck him
Some people will probably disagree with me but I feel like super heavy armor + damage makes a lot of the humanoid bosses sort of trivial
what the FUCK man
I trusted you

That's exactly what Jeff would say.
Steam
but listening to brad talk about dark souls is making me wish they would stop talking about dark souls

Yeah that's pretty jacked up

curious: what specifically?
videogames suck
beyblades are the future
Speaking of which Brad has decided to double up so they're playing Demon's Souls again today
That's okay, my first name begins with G, I grant you permission to use it since I clearly don't.
Steam
his tendency to speak definitively about things he barely understands frustrates me at the best of times, but does so especially when it's something that I know a great deal about

People wait for Steam sales to buy games, so less people buy them at full price, which hurts publishers. Also it forces small publishers to participate in sales to stay competitive, hurting their bottomline. Made a good point that the only people it benefits is the customer and Valve.
That's fair. What did he get wrong?
I just beat the game but I'm definitely not an expert. It sounded like he maybe didn't understand how the Lautrec encounter works
you were too anime
I'm sure a lot of Battlefield 4 players would've had less buyer's remorse if they had paid $40 for a broken game instead of $60
Well, you'll always have people who think they're entitled to get great shit for nothing (see: comments on every Humble Bundle, ever). That aside, wasn't there a thing that said that the steam sales increase the amount of copies sold so that it's more profitable than it would be otherwise?
Also, new titles top off the top sellers list regularly
it was mostly just the lautrec encounter
it's not a big deal, I'm just cranky and easily annoyed today because I can't shake this damn cold

I feel like I missed the beginning of the conversation

Might have been this article.
yeah it was mostly that and also how stats work.
although that's a good perspective to have because you could struggle through the whole game and not know how they worked. The only real way to know is to just read about it.
he always sounds condescending to me, even though I know that he doesn't mean to come off that way
Steam | Twitter
Yeah I got the same feeling a lot of the time, I have to remind myself that he doesn't mean it that way (I think!) all of the time
There was a podcast a few weeks ago where Brad said something along the lines of "Dude you haven't heard of X? It's pretty commonly accepted that X"
I wanted to reflex punch my phone
So I think I get where you're coming from
