It's funny that Canada, the Netherlands, and Norway are beating us Yanks in medal rankings when they only have 34, 17, and 5 million citizens, respectively. Especially Norway. 5 million people! That means there's an Olympian per every 39,833 Norwegians, I just did the math. That is. RATHER COMMON.

You can't base it on just the first couple of days. Different countries are good at different events, so some countries are naturally going to pull ahead in the first few days even if they don't win a single medal for the rest of the games. We'll start to pick it up soon. Meanwhile, we're currently stomping Germany (which is about the best country at winter Olympics) and China (which has far more people than the US and has only won one medal).
Plus US sports aren't really oriented towards the winter games. We do a lot better in the Summer Olympics, and two of our four most popular sports (baseball and football) aren't even Olympic games. Those two sports would give the US a guaranteed gold plus a strong shot at another medal.
