Concert Lineup for East 2014

zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
Seeing the return of some PAX favorites here in 2014! The band list is here!
We’ve got some amazing concerts to close out Friday and Saturday night. We are extremely excited to announce that our Friday lineup will feature three great bands in Bit Brigade, Metroid Metal, and Anamanaguchi. Saturday doesn’t take its foot off the gas either with MC Frontalot, The Doubleclicks, and The Video Game Orchestra all coming to deliver awesome tunes.

sad some of the bands I was hoping would be there not there this year. I liked last years list a lot better from looking at it

Sweet.... I was hoping VGO would be playing Saturday night! Got 2 friends that can only come on Saturday.

Bummer that the Protomen aren't going to be there this year. Hopefully next year when they have a new album to promote (RIGHT?)

Big ups for Anamanaguchi & The Doubleclicks though!

Also looking forward to seeing the VGO again.

Bummed to see Protomen not there this year but I've been dying to see Anamanaguchi for years so that makes up for it.

Wow, that's a real shame. Frontalot always puts on a great show, but while I enjoy the music of Metroid Metal, VGO and Anamanaguchi, there isn't much about the experience of seeing them live that is significantly better or more interesting than listening to their music at my computer; that is to say, they're just not that great in person. I look forward to familiarizing myself with the music of Bit Brigade and the Doubleclicks, but it's hard to imagine them filling the space left by the names that are conspicuously absent. It's a shock to not see The Protomen, Jonathan Coulton or even Paul & Storm on that list. This year's concert lineup is really disappointing.

I'm sure I'll miss some of the acts, but as PAX Prime taught us this past year, major changeups to the lineup can be a good thing. I definitely welcome the variety, even if it's at the expense of acts I enjoy.

I'm definitely going to miss the loss of JoCo, but I am absolutely regretting the lack of Paul and Storm. They were the highlight of my Saturday nights at PAX.

This makes the concerts a little less imperative for me...maybe those Saturday Night panels SHOULD be given a shot, after all.

I'm not shocked Protomen aren't coming this year. 2 years ago the place was packed for them, the crowd was dead last year though. Pretty bummed, liked seeing them live.

This line up is kinda upsetting to me. I'm totally gonna miss JoCo, Paul and Storm and Protomen. I was really hoping Random would be at East just like at Prime but oh wells. The concerts are totally less important to me now especially over last year but who knows maybe this new lineup of some acts I haven't seen may blow me away.

Protomen are doing Warped Tour this year, part of why they weren't able to also swing PAX East, I believe. Alas!

Glad the list has been announced, though! Looking forward to some of these acts!

Looks like JoCo will be at SXSW In March, line up is still worth it for me. Love me some DoubleClicks and MCFrontalot. Have been wanting to see Anamanaguchi for years as well.

I'm wicked disappointed that The Protomen aren't playing (though I understand how busy they are this year), and now that I know JoCo AND Paul and Storm aren't playing either, I'll most likely skip the concerts altogether. Which makes me really sad, since the concerts are a big part of PAX for me. I recently saw Anamanaguchi live after only seeing them once before (at PAX), and they just aren't the type of music I enjoy live.

MC Frontalot is the only other act I'd want to see, honestly. And I enjoy him a lot more after a few drinks. So meh.

I could stand losing P&S or JoCo, but losing BOTH is hard. Hopefully the new groups are good though!

  • flaznarflaznar Registered User regular
If anyone is relatively local, P&S took over Connecticon this past year and were fantastic. I hope they continue to do East coast cons.

Hopping on the boo no Protomen train. None of the acts are really the you NEED to see them live types except Protomen, and there is just nothing appealing aside from Less Than Jake on Warped Tour to justify the time or ticket price for me.
I still got Front which gives me something to look forward to. Anamanaguchi is cool, just more in that have them on in the background while I do stuff sort of way.

So, not pleased with the line up but also happy to see changes. Would have never discovered how dope Supercommuter was if they didn't pop up that one year.

There's a pretty good chance he will still be there. He's performed in Jamspace every year I've attended.

Variety is always a good thing, but the only new acts to East are Bit Brigade (who have played Prime before) and Doubleclicks. Variety this ain't.

nthing dismay at lack of Paul and Storm. I've had the fortune to see The Protomen several times over the past few years, so I'm not too bummed out about their absence (until the withdrawals actually hit). Glad to see Anamanaguchi return, since I missed going to East in 2010, and I've heard good things about the Doubleklicks.

Bit Brigade. Seriously, their Mega Man 2 set was was phenomenal, although I haven't seen them play anything else.

Not all brand new to pax, no, but in comparison to last year's lineup of
    Friday’s got:
    VGO
    Those Who Fight
    Protomen

    Saturday will feature:
    Sam Hart
    Frontalot
    Jonathan Coulton
    Paul and Storm
It's fairly different. Only 2 returning acts from last year.

Just because it's a newish line up with not as well known bands, it's still not a reason to not attend PAX at all. PAX is way more than just the concerts. I'm not too extatic on this years line up as of right now but it could end up being great and super awesome! That said I'm sure you decided not to go for other reasons anyway so whatevers

I'm happy to see the sets rotate, but I will miss The Protomen (though it frees up my Friday night now for other activities).

I've been meaning to see VGO for years, maybe this will be my chance...

I'm also glad Those Who Fight aren't back again, they were... not my cup of tea I guess.

Really bummed to see the reaction on here, but to balance out the negative vibe, i'm so pumped over this year's line-up. Well i understand missing some of the staple bands, they have been on for quite a while, and the bands coming in this year are phenomenal (Trust me, unless you've seen Anamanaguchi recently, their show is far better). Bit Brigade is easily something everyone should see, its truly one of the coolest shows i've ever had the pleasure of seeing. You still have VGO and Frontalot and Metroid Metal for veterans, and some absolutely new people from Doubleclicks. I'm really glad they finally shook up the line-up this year.

I have no pre-conceptions having never heard any of them before but I have a question. Are the concerts a part of the con or do you require tickets for this?

    PAX East 2016 .... gots my Passes [x] Hotel [x] Flights [x] Packed [..] .... ok we're all good !!!!!
  • zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
All official PAX events are included with your pass. These are absolutely part of PAX. The only exceptions are things that require you to buy materials (like draft tourneys).

Unsure about the line up. The bands I have seen before do not excite me that much. My son was devastated when I told him Protomen would not be there this year, he has been hoping to see them preform for 2 years now (could not stay awake that long). I will probably end up trying out the panels or hanging out in the ACAM room.

That's a huge bummer that JoCo and Paul & Storm aren't there. The upside is that I won't be out until 1am or later Saturday night and Sunday morning won't be the worst.

I am a little disappointed also--for me, I think some of it is nostalgia. Paul and Storm and JoCo (especially JoCo), have been linked to Pax in my mind. It will not be the same without them.

Thank you for your comments on Bit Brigade and Anamanaguchi. While I think these new acts are talented, I was (am?) skeptical about how much fun I would have watching them live. I might give them a chance on Friday.

Excited about the Double Clicks. Saturday night is looking awesome.

I am VERY excited to see Bit Brigade.. I have been putting this in my comments for PAX feedback the last 2 years. This might be the year I actually attend a concert instead of getting blitzed at a company party.

Unless World of Tanks has another party.. then.. well..

I enjoyed Those Who Fight from time to time, but I found the vocals to be really hard to hear. More a sound-quality thing for me. Their lady-guitarist was kick ass though, and we rocked out with her at the post-PAX Protomen concert last year.

Random question, and this thread's as good a place to ask as any: Do they serve alchohol at these concerts? I know there's the sam adams bar down in the food court, but was hoping there was something closer.

  • zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
They do not. The only alcohol permitted in the convention center is what is purchased at the Sam Adams bar, and it must stay within that area.

    ....no Paul and Storm????

That's the reason I go to the concert every year, I love those guys :(

I'm happy to see new bands, but I wish it wasn't at the expense of one of my fav parts of PAX. Really could have done without the VGO instead. Last time I saw them there, they didn't really have a set list ready, played a couple of songs, then asked people for requests, kept saying "no, we can't play that" to every suggestion, then said, "how about we play what we already played, again" and did just that. It was....pretty horrid.
