That first panel is pretty meta in terms of what Gabe is drawing.

Just needs a boom mic from an in-progress 4th panel shoot.

In other news, this sounds like every project notebook I've ever made on paper that went over a singe page, and especially those that did not.

Webster's says that both "hanged" and "hung" are acceptable forms, and that "hanged" is more of an older expression.

Gabe, you killed my favorite worker at PA. You're the worst!

Hey, what is that sketch on his computer anyway... *opens high-res* Ha, it's Gabe and Jamie. In fact, it's the first panel from another angle. How does Gabe colour that kind of inking, anyway?

  • IndoorsmanIndoorsman Registered User regular
Tycho should know better. "Hanged' is the preferred word.

    NO!!! Our Community Liaison/Protocol Droid!!

Actually, I imagine things like Robert's brutal hiring process have made her quite resilient.

Goes to show how awful that design doc was... Like gazing into the maw of the god of insanity.

Did you understand what they meant when they said, "Hung herself"?

Then whether or not you prefer "hung" or "hanged", saying it should have been one or the other is just pedantry.

  • DurkhanusDurkhanus Commander Registered User regular
Why should he use the "preferred" version, just because it is the "preferred" version? There's a whole lotta perfectly good words available, why not make use of them?

By that logic, Candy Crush Saga can use 'saga' (a perfectly good word) however they wish. We all want to avoid word jail, don't we?

  • joshofalltradesjoshofalltrades Class Traitor Smoke-filled roomRegistered User regular
Those two situations are hardly comparable. One is using a word which conveys its intended meaning appropriately and the other does not. Also this conversation is boring which does a disservice to such an amusing strip.

  • Maz-Maz- 飛べ Registered User regular
    It's a perfectly cromulent word.

    Oooookay.

Firstly, yes, they can use it however they wish, provided it does not violate applicable laws. In that specific case, the meaning(s) of 'saga' is difficult to apply to the content of Candy Crush Saga. That issue is unlike an argument over usage of 'hanged' vs 'hung' for referring to a method used/to be used for killing a person.

As well, I don't know what 'word jail' is. Care to elaborate?

The only thing I don't like is that comics seem to arbitrarily switch between the "penny-Arcade universe" and Mike and Jerry's real life. Like sometimes it seems they live together like two bachelors, and then sometimes they have families, and then sometimes they work at PA but it's never really explicitly stated. I just kind of wish the comic would pic a direction, either real life or fantasy. I just think I preferred using events from real life, to create stories from within the PA universe, rather than having Gabe and Tycho appear in the real world.

But this was also the first comic that made me laugh out loud in probably a year, so there you go!

  • GaslightGaslight Registered User regular
I would say comics that make it look as though they still live together as bachelor roommates have gotten few and far between.

  • sullijosullijo mid-level minion subterranean bunkerRegistered User regular
I, for one, like that the comic continues to eschew the dread continuity.

When I was driving once I saw this painted on a bridge:
"I don't want the world, I just want your half"

There is still one now and then which implies they live together. In Southern Exposure (June 2012), for example, we have a morning scene where it looks like they've just gotten up - Tycho is drinking coffee bleary-eyed and both Tycho and Gabe are still in their pajamas/nightclothes - which makes it seem pretty strongly like they live in the same place.

Obviously this is just done for the sake of the visual gag, and the gag is always paramount above consistency in continuity or setting in PA.

There may be more recent examples, that's just one that popped into my head. Certainly strips which feature the comic versions of Brenna and Kara and Mike and Jerry's kids are now more common than the ones that make them seem like bachelor roommates.

    Y'all make me laugh.

I still haven't reached the deepest sub folders of this... thing, but I love this kind of work. I made a spreadsheet yesterday that color-codes tasks by whom they are tasked to, has a dropdown menu for category, rank in order of due date, etc. (most of those are Khoo strategies.) I showed it to Mike and he cringed away, repulsed. It was pretty great.

I would say a sealed containment space, a quarantine of sorts, where a perpetrator of crimes against language is forced to contemplate their misdeeds and prevented from any further attempt to bend language to their degenerate will for a set duration of time, up to and including eternity. Possibly the jail itself is also in some way formed by words or spoken into being like a spell or incantation.

I'm pretty sure it's the second panel

If Gabe's design doc sent Jaime over the edge when putting up with our crap hasn't (especially after the new site design uproar a couple weeks ago)...it must be pretty bad.

I'm glad Jerry defiantly stuck with hung, hanged might be the proper way to say it, but it always just sounds wrong in practice.

Shit, how did I miss that.

Also, Jamie's still alive; Gabe's atrocities aren't enough to defeat the one stormtrooper (the one that knows how to not die and shoot) of the stream!

@fightinfilipino‌ I don't have one currently but off the top of my head, columns are: Status, Due date, Completion Date, Assigned To (for multiperson projects or management scenarios), Category, Task, Notes. Status and Assigned to both make use of Conditional Formatting, when a cell contains "Done" it turns green, In Progress is yellow, etc. Drop downs are made by left clicking a column or cell and selecting "Data Validation."

I'll see about making some sort of template, but honestly for personal tasks I use Trello. I wrote about how I use it and why I love it here. I should update that, as months later I'm still using it and still love it.

I also recommend for iOS/OSX Clear.

@PA Jamie‌ answer this- what was in that file that made your comic self hang yourself.
