Runaways Thread

runaways.jpg

I'm all caught up on this now, so since we don't have a thread for it, I thought I would start one.

Plot Synopsis (from Wikipedia)
Nico Minoru, Gertrude Yorkes, Chase Stein, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes, and Alex Wilder meet at their families' annual gathering, where they see their parents performing the ritual sacrifice of a girl.[3] The teenagers run away, but before they go, each learns of their true heritage and takes weapons or discovers powers they didn't know they had. The runaways retreat to an underground hideout they call "the Hostel", a mansion buried during an earthquake.

So anyways, uh, there seemed to be a gap of information between issue 24 and 25.

Yeah, what's with drawing Gert skinny in some pictures and hyper-bloated in others? Her body changed like a teenage girl's during puberty!

Even though it's not really representative of her, this is still my favorite picture of her. So adorable.

You know, Chen got better at drawing her weight right before she you knowed. One of the covers was actually pretty accurate.

I liked how, in the last arc, Chase looked like Mello from Death Note:

I like that he can't really do anything. After those fistagons were destroyed, he was pretty much left without a role. It fit his character well.

I... never really liked him, either, though. He's okay as far as the Runaways go. When you take him out of the context of the book, he's better than many other characters in comics, so... whatever, I guess.

Although frog pilot and raptor master chase is still much better than sad and depressed emo chase.

Chase is vying with Karolina for my second favorite character (Nico being number 1), and even I can understand why someone wouldn't like him.

Well then, you're lucky I suppose.
I will just continue to hope that she can somehow be revived, hell maybe they can transfer her consciousness into Old Lace or something. I'll take anything at this point. T.T

I feel all weird about Runaways. Everyone keeps saying, "You need to check this out. It's so awesome!" But when I look at an issue in the shop, I just release this big, sigh-like, meh. I don't know, usually something grabs me right away but Runaways has yet to make me truly interested in it. Maybe there are just way too many culture references for my taste, or that it isn't as 'pulp' as the other Marvel Comics. Maybe I'll grab the first volume and see if I like it or not. God knows I need to actually read it before I start making any assumptions.

    By the way...
Is Chase betraying the rest of the group? I just looked at the Wikipedia thing but stealing the Staff of One and disabling Victor? Is there some plan that he's got going that I'm not seeing or is he actually turning bad?

Oh, another by the way. Has Civil War been mentioned or had any immediate effect lately on the characters? I doubt they give a damn about Cap's death but is there anything else? Have they run into one of the Avengers? Has Iron Man tried to kill them? S.H.I.E.L.D.?

The Chase thing was dealt with 2 issues ago. It's part of why I don't like him.

They were being screwed with by the Actually Evil part of the Civil War. (As in, the more evil than Tony).
We have not seen anything come out of that, although a Skrull did technically help a Kree, so something interesting might go.

    That's false.
The last cover Jo Chen did with Gert on it was volume 2 issue 4, and it's the normal "super tall and thin" Gert.

The issue I think you're thinking off, with Gert standing in the giant Spider-Man mask (issue 11 of volume 2) was done by James Jean

Yeah, 28 was better than 27 which was better than 26. By the end of his arc I may actually like what he's doing.

Of course, I take that statement back if
He kills Nico and/or revives Gert
