I liked Waimea Bay (on Oahu) while we were there... a giant bunch of us rented a house for like a week. It was FANTASTIC. Hawaii is gorgeous.
Oh lord.
I stayed for two weeks just south of Waiameia. Next to Two Tables (or was it Three Tables?), and so help me, they nearly had to sedate me to get me back home. At the time I wasn't open to living anywhere but the mountains, but Oahu was goddamned Paradise. the garden of fucking Eden. Those waves, the surfing, the food, the women, the many times my girlfriend beat me for looking at the women, the sand fleas that bit everyone else but me, including my girlfriend, ha ha ha.
God, I would literally sell my soul just for another night at the Waikiki Hilton's luau. So good.

My mom's not military, just...odd. The last three are her going to seminary and then subsequent preaching gigs. I left out all the places we only lived for like a month then left.
That is odd, because every place you named excepting your place of birth is near a Military base of some type.
Isn't there an airforce base down around Yuma? Or am I just thinking that because of all the crashes that go down there? I didn't know there was a base near Alton though, except the little one building, eight troop building in town.
There might be, but the name didn't ring a bell. Of course, I'm not in the Airforce so I don't know each and every base.
And there isn't a base right next to Alton, but there should be one fairly close. And it's at the end of your list anyway, so your parents could have gotten out before it got that far... not that they were in.

I'm jealous.
A lot of it comes down to knowing when to go and where to stay and all that fun stuff. The bulk of that stuff was also with my parents, though some things (like the China wanderings) are my own. I've only been financially independent for a year though and it's honestly not hard to find a good place for a great price.
Example: Hainan in China is like the eastern Hawaii. It is gorgeous and comes at a fraction of the price in terms of accommodation. Helps that we lived in Asia because we don't have to account for flying over the Pacific. :P
Oh, and my best example is Boracay, where they have this giant stretch of gorgeous beach that basically anyone can be on. Just stay at the cheapest hotel, walk to the beach, and spend the day there.
I mean how comfy does your bed at night have to be, really, when you're spending your entire day outdoors on a beach or in the ocean?
Man how the hell do you have so much money to travel, Viv
I'm jealous.
Dude, you don't really need money to travel. Not as much as you'd think, anyhoo. Nothing more fun than grabbing a couple hundred dollars and hitching down to New Orleans or the like.
Unless you mean traveling with things like soap and running water and planes.
You wimp.
Well if I'm gonna go to Europe I'd need at least two of those things.
So as far as places visited:
Been to Maui several times
diving in Cozumel, Mexico
diving in Grand Cayman
Spent 2 months in Europe which included
Belgium
France
Italy
Austria
Germany
Switzerland
And British Columbia but that doesn't really count since it's right across the border as well as some areas in the eastern U.S. but the above are really the memorable trips.

Engineering program, basically. I went in for ECE then pussied out and switched to BUS (Finance).
That and my father's worked for Caterpillar basically his whole life.
Yeah, the engineering program is the only reason I'm here too, but for computer science..
I probably would have dropped out of ECE too, I had to take ECE205 and that shit was the bane of my existence for an entire semester. How far did you get into it before you realized only masochists deal with any form of electrical engineering?
End of freshman year. Heehee. I'm a pussy.
I am fairly sure you made the correct decision. We have a good business school too though, so not like it's much of a loss. Also, did you follow basketball at all? 'Cause boy was Green St. fun when we got into the Finals your senior year. And boy did Green St. suck when we lost in the finals your senior year.
And in order to stop derailing the thread, I spent 2 weeks visiting France, and have been to various other states... NY, Maine, Mass., Conn., Virginia, DC (boy do I fucking hate that town), Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Texas, Tennessee...
Yeah tell me about it. Final Four ownage and then WHAM, two point loss to UNC. I was saddeded.
We were in Chicago for a conference for Final Four weekend and when we won our game we ran into the hotel's corridors (it's set up like an atrium so the hallways open into a view of the lobby) and screamed ILL-INI across the atrium.
God bless the Holiday Inn for not throwing us out.

I don't either, which is why I said general military up top there. Plenty of jobs from all four branches serve on bases from the other branches, so it isn't terribly uncommon to be stationed all over.

My mom was never in and it's just me and her. The only military that had an effect on us moving was the Korean one. She decided it'd probably be a good idea to leave when she saw a lot more troops moving towards the DMZ around 93-94.

I was stationed in San Angelo, TX (goodfellow AFB) for 4 years, we had all 4 services there; mainly because it was the intel and firefighter training school for the entire military, but it was just funny. After that Green Street was absolutely shut down from 1st to Wright St (filled with students) with like 40 kids hanging from the Alma Mater, cops pulling them off one by one. Probably about 10,000 people eventually made their way to the quad before it eventually cleared out an hour or so later.
Places I've visited? Oh hell.

Now this is a bold-faced lie.
Its proximity to Lake Tahoe alone makes it better. The Hoover Dam has nothing on it; and in fact is boring as hell. It's funny to drive over it if you're going from Phoenix to Vegas, you can just see the confusion and disappointment on the faces of the people there. You can almost hear their thoughts "WTF did we come here for? it's just concrete."
I hope none of you ever have to go to El Paso, Tx. It is the asshole of the U.S. and the only reason I had a good time there was because I was there with 100+ friends for a weekend of drunken debauchery which meant that in that particular case, it was the perfect place for us to go because we could do whatever the fuck we wanted and get away with it.
