Stephen Colbert's "The Late show" starting September 8th
If this has to happen, that is exactly the best way for it to happen. At least we know the humor will largely be intact, not that I didn't trust Colbert to be funny if it he didn't get the same team.
While I know it will be great and funny and all those good things, I just can't imagine a Colbert show without his persona. My brain just will not compute it
Damn, I'm gonna miss the Report. The Late Show is a waste of this man's talents.
Plus, how the hell am I supposed to decide whether to watch Fallon or Colbert? Don't say DVR, I'm not going there. Got enough to watch on Amazon without filling up an HDD with more shows I haven't watched.
Still, while I love Craig Ferguson, I couldn't see him moving up to the earlier timeslot. Not on that network. CBS isn't NBC, they're not into taking risks with their late-night lineup.

I wonder if CBS is gonna make him have a band

I'd heard this as a rumor but I guess it's real now. I dunno what to think. It kinda feels like late-night television is getting jam-packed with folks lately.
I'm excited for this! I always get the feeling that Colbert wants to do more or at least something different and he's getting that chance on basically the largest platform possible.
I'd have hated to see him get truly bored and stuck in the Report project a decade from now. I would like that character retired really except for perhaps a yearly reunion with The Daily Show.
Also, one last election season with the Report and I expect it to be awesome. Funny, at least.
"CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America," [Guess Who] fumed. "No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values, conservatism. Now it's just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny, and a redefinition of what is comedy. They're blowing up the 11:30 format... they hired a partisan, so-called comedian, to run a comedy show."
Why is everything about declaring war to these people? Literally everything that opposes them is a war.
Also, lol at "so-called comedian". Just because Rush doesn't find him funny because he's the butt of the joke, and he's a poor sport, Colbert isn't a comedian. I'm pretty sure telling jokes makes you a comedian, regardless of who is on the receiving end of them.
I will say that as much as I find this news to be meh, if its what Colbert wants in his heart, I'm happy for him. Dude has given us SO MUCH and deserves to have a good and happy time for it. I can't imagine it's easy for him to be a pretend monster every week.

I'm hoping for Amy Sedaris.
What? A man can dream.
I cannot let myself even vaguely entertain this idea. Its lack of actualization would be far too painful.

Or at least the picture of Hugh Laurie.

Arent the first few years that Conan clone guy ( Craig Kilborn?)and not John Stweart?
Nobody gives a shit about that guy so it doesn't count.
Networks really love to stop comedians from being interesting.
They can do it to themselves too
Lookin' at you, Craigy Ferg

Maybe Col-bear could be his sidekick, a sort of Smeagol/Gollum situation.

My kid spills his milk at the dinner table, it's a war on dining rooms!
My boss wants me to get back to work after an hour of lunch, it's a war on breaks!
My wife doesn't feel up to having sex, it's a war on libidos!
