I've basically been hoarding ingredients for the last 20 hours, so the more shit I can make (and then sell or use), the better. My inventory is a goddamn nightmare.

Crafting 5 allows you to use elemental Essences on weapons. That alone gives you about a 20 percent boost in weapon effectiveness (The damage boost is good, the status effect proc is better). If a weapon is magical/rare/legendary and already has a elemental damage buff, the boost from the Essence STACKS on top of the weapon's existing damage (even from a different element). Madora has always had some two-handed weapon with both Earth and Fire or Air and Water damage tacked onto it in my party since I hit crafting 5.

You can also tack a Ruby onto armor and helmets, giving you +15 or 20 percent to all resists. The helmet buff is slightly less (I think it's 10 percent, with 15 percent in later levels). Still combined with the Man-At-Arms talent that gives you a bunch of resists and the base +15% resists from full plate armor, your tank can be a walking god that takes no element damage.

There are a large variety of rings and necklaces you can make to fill in open jewelry slots. I like the Lucky Rabbit Foot ring, personally (bonus movement and speed). You combine Pixie Dust (the weaver sells this... craftable, too, with a Mortar and Pestle and a Skull and Stardust Herb) with a Lucky Rabbit's Foot, then combine it with a Jeweller's Kit: Ring.

You can also combine two branches to make a staff. At Crafting 5, the water staff (element is random when crafting) gives a bonus to Intelligence. The earth staff gives a bonus to Lucky Charm, if you want a staff to equip when "looting" as opposed to in combat.

Blacksmithing allows you to improve existing metal weapons and armor on Forges and Whetstones. At Blacksmithing 5, the weapon damage boost from a whetstone (permanent, by the way) is obscenely good (something like plus 20 or 25 percent). Reforging armor removes the movement penalty and grants a movement bonus. You're going to have Blacksmithing anyway because you need to repair your shit.

Improving armor/weapons also boosts the sale value. If a metal weapon is below your level, you can scrap the metal from it at a furnace, then reforge it to make a weapon of your level that sells better.

There are a lot more things you can do with crafting, like building Skillbooks instead of paying for them or tacking on Nails onto any Boot item to make them immune to slipping. It is basically a 2 level investment (3 point) on Jahan for each skill to break the game wide open (assuming you get 2 pieces of +Blacksmithing and +Crafting gear, which is pretty easy to get from my experience).

    Holy ****! Nice.

I've been wandering around using two lone wolves with zombie, leech and bloodletting for a backwards heal.

It is pretty comical. I expect I'll be nerfed into the ground before I get halfway through and have to reroll again, but until then, HAW.

I need to pick a build and go with it. I keep restarting/creating other saves to try different things.

I think I'm finally going to settle with a ranger/naughty deeds/crafting guy and then a witch/geomancer/pyro type, with Madora to cleave crap in half and Jahan for teleporting and air and water hijinks. And maybe branch out enough so everyone has summons.

I'd go pure Ranger, personally (all points into Expert Marksman at the start). You can use gear to make up the points for Dirty Deeds. Crafting can be dumped onto Jahan (who is tailor made for it, pretty much). Even if you don't use Jahan as an adventuring partner, you can just dump him in the Hall of Heroes and rehire him any time you need some crafting done.

Expert Marksman 5 and Quickdraw talent is SO good. Go for that first.

    Mucked around in the editor.

It doesn't freakin' work. Like, you can't build any scripts, or establish what triggers do.

    Really disappointed.

Question to anyone who has finished the game.
I'm about to enter the source temple in the phantom forest

How much more game is there? It's kinda wearing out its welcome, and I wonder if I should just power through to the end tonight, or put it away for awhile instead.

Not long really, just the source temple and then like 20 minutes of story stuff.

    Hello everybody!

We just released the first official patch for Divinity:Original Sin which introduces the concept of AI personalities.

During character creation, you can now select a specific personality for your characters. When a personality is active the AI will automatically make dialogue choices (based on its personality) for the avatar that isn't selected.

In addition to this, we've made a lot of improvements as well as bug fixes and balancing changes.

You'll also notice that you can now publish to Steam Workshop using the Divinity Engine Toolkit.

Here's the full list of changes:

    - Save games are packed and compressed now
    - Fixed issues when saving to a network drive
    - Fixed unique drops over multiple sessions
    - Fixed several tooltips
    - Optimized syncing of action states
    - Fixed leadership critical chance (didn't work)
    - Changed leadership icon

    - Dialog banter filter in the combat log
    - Fixed trade autobalancer
    - Unlearning a skill will cancel it if you were casting it at the same time
    - Fixed issue with inventory tabs, sometimes resulting in missing icons in the UI
    - Fixed issue where certain henchman were free
    - Cannot hire same henchman twice
    - Henchman will start with the Staff of Magus skill now

    - Seriously limitted amount of traffic sent during player movement and when executing certain actions.
    - Fixed crash when texture detail is set too low (only possible through editing config file)
    - No skill casting while a skillstate is busy (causing double skill casting)
    - Fixed wrong trait names in combat log

Awwww... so annoyed with the last blocker.
I have to collect 12 blood/star stones to gain entry to the last dungeon. Checked a list thereof. I think I got them all, I guess I must have missed one. I don't know which one. I guess I'll watch the ending on youtube.

The oldschool *zero handholding* approach was refreshing at first, tedious sometime inbetween, and now it's simply become annoying. I don't think I can be bothered to backtrack through the whole game and figure out what I missed. It's a shame, but I realized that I expect a certain amount of streamlining, lest I feel like a game is wasting my time.

I need a fix of Dragon's Teeth right now. Can't be dealing with this nonesense.

There are at least 15 (edit: 16) stones in the game and you only need 12.

Did you use any blood stones you might be carrying around? I had a few in my bag when I reached the door I had forgotten to break open for that delicious souljuice.

I wish I had gone finding some hints online earlier. The flow of the game's plot really suffers when you trigger
the attack to the End of the Time very early and then do not resolve it until very late - I've gone from lvl 12 or so to lvl 18 with no new portals opening because of that. Just spent like two hours hopping in and out of the home plane, checking out the lore and seeing all the useful stuff now available when it's too late to matter much.

I didn't do it on purpose, just seems it is really easy to break the intended progression. On one hand the freedom is nice, but on the other this game also demonstrates why all the big AAA-games usually limit player's freedom.

This game has no freedom, it's a purely linear game that allows you to peek into the later stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about that....other than I love the game anyways.

Aye sure. It's just not 1988 anymore, when it took me like a half a year to figure out that I had to *take a deep breath* to solve some underwater puzzle in Space Quest 1, and I was okay with it being that way. These days, I lose my patience with a game much more quickly. Don't get me wrong, I love the game overall - it just expects a lot of the player, and that all the time. I mean with all the character build experiments I spent like 100 hours on Original Sin. I just reached my breaking point in regards to the game making me feel lost. I've got more exciting ways to waste my time than doing hours of internet research on how to get things done. The game is great, and I love that it exists, but my fascination with its brand of freedom finally wore thin.
I think I hit my breaking point when the game asked me to flee from some Death Knights, and I naturally fled the way I came. Distracting the fiends with my summons, popping invisibility as needed, clearing lava with Tornados, making my way all the way to the quicktravel waypoint I came from... and it didn't work. Of course I had to flee in the other direction, where an exit is hidden behind some breakable stuff. It's not like the lava wasn't an obvious hint, and it's crazy that it actually let me do all the things I did, but really, if the game wants me to do something specific, I'd rather have it tell me what and where and how, rather than keeping it vague.

btw. I missed Maradino's Lair and its Blood Stone, which is an easy thing to miss. I guess I'll finish it eventually. Right now I just have to take a break.

This game is absolutely completely fantastic and a vindication of everything I have been saying about why RPGs should invest more in turn based combat for anything remotely tactical. It makes me so happy on every conceivable level.

I am so pleased to see a resurgence in Turn Based games as well.

So I've found what SEEMS to be a little crafting area in the starting city, with a Furnace, Anvil, Bellows and Whetstone, but I can't seem to do anything with them. Do I just drag weapons to be upgraded to the whetstone in any specific way?

So far I've made some pizza dough, and put buckets on my head.

Yeah, for most crafting you just drag one item over the other. It's a bit clunky. You need Blacksmithing 2 to use whetstones - it seems to give around +20% damage permanently to any bladed(?) weapon. There's long lists of crafting recipes, I never bothered with anything else besides whetstones. It also increases the value of the item, so if you have a bunch of blades you are planning to sell and feel like that extra 10% gold makes a difference, you can hone them all.

So whetstones are an item in the environment that isn't consumed, as opposed to an item you can put in your inventory that gets used up?

Just checking, as I found the aforementioned crafting area, and the 'whetstone' is pretty huge and definitely not something I can pick up. (Unless I need more than 10 Strength).

Drag a weapon from your inventory or equipment onto the whetstone in the environment, yes.

Is time a gift or punishment?

There's both kinds in the game and they do the same thing.

Thanks for the answers, I must have somehow been 'doing it wrong' last night.

It was close to 2am though. I stopped and went to bed. :relieved:

Finished the game. Oh man, that end fight was looooooooong. I'm sure some people who min/max break the game and hit for one billion every time they swing can do it fast but for me it took forever. I was afraid my weapons break mid-fight even though I had repaired them before starting it. Then I started being afraid I fall asleep before I'm done - though at least you can save during the fight.

It's been a hell of a journey, despite the flaws the game clearly has. My GOTY 2014 most likely, especially if they keep on patching the game.

We can only hope that turn based games catch on enough for more people to invest in making them. Divinity is still the top seller on steam.
