There's a general attitude in Esports that what matters is technically impressive feats, and adding arbitrary menial tasks is desirable to increase the mental focus required
Imagine a Starcraft game where you have to press the P key exactly every 20 seconds or you lose control of your units
Technically everything we do in sports is arbitrary, but there's nothing impressive to arbitrary tasks for the sake of a skill ceiling
I am wondering how this E3 showing for Nintendo will actually translate into sales, or if the Wii U will continue to be largely ignored by the masses
Considering Wii U sales have sextupled since Mario Kart came out and every single Best Buy in the country that has the Smash Bros demo today had lines out the door
Nintendo is going to have a pretty good year

I can't decide if I want to pick up a ps4 to go with my xbone or upgrade my pc. I sorely need to upgrade my computer but there are Sony exclusives that really look interesting.

speaking of arbitrary menial tasks, god fuck the spawn larva ability they gave the zerg
When starcraft added a counter above town hall buildings showing how many workers were mining minerals for it people were livid
The essential exciting skill of selecting units and counting to the predetermined perfect ratio
Interactions between units and armies? Nah spectators want to see the impressive aspects of players remembering they have a minor speed boost to use every twenty seconds and using a unit ability every forty for the zerg economy
Remembering all that shit makes it impressive you can play an actual game on top of it

The only economy ability in the game that straight up penalizes you for being a few seconds slow.
So I have been really thinking about the implications of being a megadummy and buying another Wii U
And I am in a precarious position
I really want to play Smash Bros this year
And I would really like to check out Kirby, Yoshi, Captain Toad, all that
But I don't want to pay full price for them, like I would probably max out at 20 bucks for each one
The only big E3 Wii U games I would pay full price for are Smash Bros, Zelda, and Splatoon
And I wanna play Smash Bros when it comes out
But I don't wanna be stuck sitting on an unused console again for a year waiting for games to come out/get cheaper
Don't be like me, kids
Do what I did with the original Wii
Wait four years after launch, so, November 2016
Grab it on the cheap, and grab the games on the cheap
Unless you're specifically gonna be involved in the online scene, I don't see why you'd need to play Smash Bros. this year, it's not like it's a story-based game that's gonna have this big zeitgeist around it

Vocal minority, I assure you. There's plenty of folks who are happy with the change and strangely enough it's still there and there's no more raging about it anymore.

I love e-sports!
I just think they're a joke!
I did not play that but that is what I would call a "magazine game"
Where I would constantly see it in all the magazines I would glance through in the grocery store and go "oh that looks cool"
well no i like fighting games on paper at least

This reads like the end of one of those missions in Final Fantasy Tactics
I'm glad I sent you out as the right job and you brought me back a cool sword

Sportsfriends has not set the world on fire like it deserves to
I would watch tournaments of any single one of those games

They gained like 600 percent in the UK
But 600 percent of not-that-much is...
I'm still seeing MK8 bundles on store shelves everywhere I go
NO
WE'RE OUT OF APPLE FRITTERS

There was a sports friends (I think it was specifically Bari Bari Ball) tournament at a FGC tournament last month
So sure it is just an anecdote but it e3 sealed the deal for me.'
The sad part is that this has taken NINETEEN MONTHS to even really get the ball rolling.

You have any bear claws?
Unless my girlfriend is seriously fucking with me she apparently just bought me a Titanfall Xbox One for my birthday
if you mean ufgt, it was definitely BaraBariBall

Yeah well that doesn't make any sense to me at all.
eSports isn't really the same as a movie that is so bad it's good.
It's a multi-million dollar industry now, with tons of games being tailored for it and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of fans world wide.
I don't get what about it makes it a 'joke'.
I had to look it up

Okay I'll take that.

And then I actually looked at the screen and noticed it says BaraBariBall
oh
well i guess that would make sense then

And I mean, I guess they are out there, Counter Strike jumps to mind.
