Game of Thrones is a hit fantasy drama airing on HBO and based on NOTHING IN PARTICULAR AT ALL. Set in the mythical realm of Westeros, a land where seasons can last a lifetime, the only person you can trust is yourself and maybe not even then, where magic is being reborn, and where all men must die.
We follow a variety of characters across an epic story. In the aftermath of a mysterious death, the realms of men are drawn into a great conflagration as the nobles of the world play the game of thrones. Meanwhile, the last scion of a former ruler undergoes a transformative journey to reclaim her family's birthright and in the far reaches of the continent an ancient evil awakens that may spell the end of it all.
In this thread we will discuss this show and our feelings about it.
The purpose of this thread is to give show watchers an avenue for discussion that isn't poisoned by those of us ubernerds who know how to read. If you'd like to talk about book spoilers,
there's an app for that, but talk about <REDACTED> or <MISSING LINE> or <EXPLITAVE DELETED> in here and that's a paddlin'.
Spoiler Policy: Pretty standard stuff, current season and future episodes should get spoiler tags (meaning not only hide them behind the cut but label them as well) while seasons 1-3 will be fair game. Once season four ends we'll go ahead and open up that for discussion after a little bit of a grace period.
Special Note to Cross Threaders: Most of us can participate in both threads without being geese. Some of us can't. If you just can't help but post a leading theory or snarky remark about an episode that's about to air the rest of us book readers will deal with you faster than Walder Frey dealt with Dany in the Battle of the Stony Shore (just kidding, that's not a thing guys. Though if it ever is, called it!)

He is nobility. Jeor was lord but gave that up upon joining the NIght's Watch. And I believe Jorah's Aunt is current Queen.
I've even read papers suggesting that before good mirrors were pretty much omnipresent people might not have had that good an idea of what *they themselves* look like, simply because they weren't exposed to that particular image all that often, and that this might even have had an impact on how they perceive others.
tl;dr: Just because we know what these people look like doesn't mean that people will know Jorah. If the story requires it, though, he'd be sure to bump into someone who knew him when he was younger.

well now I'm just going to be disappointed
Wow, are spoilers OK now?
For me, the moment I'm most looking forward to is Tyrion being executed, and then waking up on the Cylon baseship, and being greeted by the Oberyn models.
He could try, but I don't think hiding in a hut in the woods counts as "getting home" for him. It's totally possible, but his life would suck and it would be hugely dangerous.
Or Barristan.
Or Daario.
Or Missandei.
Or Grey Worm.
Or that one girl that hangs out with them.
Poor Pyp and Grenn. :<

Abort! Abort! Abort! Dragon incoming!
I am kinda glad I don't remember any of that show after all
Missandei is super pretty and now I've seen her boobs.
I welcome this in every episode pls.
No idea what you're talking about.
did you once like the Dany storyline and now it stinks? or you never liked her/it?
Jorah has a pardon from Robert Baratheon. The Mormonts were loyal to him, his word will still be law to them. I am sure they will be glad to have Jorah back.
cuz a dude that sold slaves and then became a spy to avoid punishment for aforementioned slave running is super beloved by all
But still a disgraced knight. I suspect he would get a similar reaction to that one Theon gets when he approaches proud ironborn. If a bit less crude considering ,well, the Ironborn are Ironborn.
Also a side note: I'm not sure if the "actual" pardon still exists. I think all that Barristan has is a forgery created by Tywin Lannister. SEE: "Mace ,fetch me my quill!"
"That's a good, Mace"
It's got the Hand's seal on it, it's good as genuine. Ser Barristan, who has worked at the court since he was a young man, believes it to be real. If Jorah shows up with that and show it to people, they'll no doubt believe it to be real as well.
It probably also helps that all the people who punished him are dead or don't care.

Yeah, pardon or not, he was exiled for slavery, even his family will just be pissed that he's a stain on their family name. The one time we heard The Lord Commander mention him he sure didn't sound like he would forgive him if he came back, and that was his own father.
but this is a patriarchal society and he's now the patriarch of their family
who's going to send him packing if he shows up at the castle, his mother? he's young enough to continue their line and nobody in power cares what he did
most of the men of his family presumably were slaughtered in the war, if he showed up with a note that said "you are pardoned" in crayon he'd probably have a place there. A land without a lord doesn't last long. And he sold someone into slavery instead of executing them, I don't think most nobles would care as much as Ned did.
I'm just saying most noble families seem to think family is pretty important and they don't tend to be the ones deciding what penalty their elder male family members should deserve, like if Tywin did something really bad all the sudden the lannisters would kick him out?
I liked that the head cook apparently had a two-handed meat cleaver.
As Eddard Stark found out, sometimes having your paperwork in order is just not good enough
You mean Tywin "The Hand" Lannister's seal? Just saying. Actually I don't know if that would be a forgery or not...
I just confused myself. It's been a long day.
No, I mean the Hand's seal, the same seal every Hand uses.
Like whatever his folks think about Jorah's original crime, I'm pretty sure getting pardoned by a Lannister is actually going to be an even bigger crime to them. He'd be seen as a collaborator.
