Activision really likes to protect the prices on their games. Not quite as much as Nintendo, but close.
Usually in a liquidation they have a 3rd party handle it. The ones I've seen around where I live bump everything up to MSRP and then mark down 10% for a week or 2, then 20%, 30% etc (though they may be forced to leave some things at regular MSRP). The weird part is that stuff will sell at the 10-20% phase, even though the price during these phases is typically higher than what the store was selling things for before liquidation.

Toys R Us is only closing 20% or so of their locations, so I would expect the best merchandise to be transferred to other locations rather than liquidated.

They are closing the "good" store {it's good in it's stocked and has a wider selection of stuff} in favor of the other store in the middle of a shopping area hellscape
If this is anything like the TRU shutting down in my town a couple years ago, they'll ship all the actually popular stuff to other stores immediately and discount the crap.

I know I've said I'll just get Zoo Tycoon at the current price, but instead I stocked up on fauxbux to buy the Season 3 pack for The Pinball Arcade. And since I've noticed that they haven't been on sale in forever, if ever, they're probably about to be made free for eternity.
There have been rumors that Disney is going to have MvC:I removed from Steam soon, I wonder if there are plans to do the same for console and this is an early inventory clearance?

Not a common sight in the Game Deals thread, but Shopko (Wisconsin-based discount retailer) has what looks to me to be a fantastic Switch deal this week:

TRU had to file for bankruptcy because their...(I guess) parent company heaped loads of debt onto them from other sub-companies of the parent [I won't pretend to know what's going on, but it's related to mergers and takeovers and not related to the performance of the company itself]. So TRU is stuck trying to find money wherever they can; which at this point is in their stores themselves and cutting back on workers.
This is off topic but I thought it warranted some explanation (however bad said explanation is).

...that's just bullshit. It seems to me like they shouldn't be allowed to gut the company to pay off the debt then? Like, that would seem to be devaluing the collateral...

At least around here, what mainly closed were separate Babies R Us stores; seems like they were trying to merge them into combination stores (which I can't really say I'm shocked by, as the Babies R Us here never seemed to have more than like 10 people shopping in it ever).

You shouldn't be paying tax on those eshop cards because you're taxed on the game purchase.

Don't know how much longer it will be for, but Amazon currently has Titanfall 2 (and several other Origin titles like DA:I and Mirror's Edge Catalyst) for $5 apiece. Even if you just play the single player, it's well worth $5 to play the adventures of Matt Mercer and Optimus Prime.

That makes sense for more remote locations. They also have a lot of locations they're closing that have other stores remaining open less than 10 miles away.
They are closing the "good" store {it's good in it's stocked and has a wider selection of stuff} in favor of the other store in the middle of a shopping area hellscape

Just to add more info on what was mentioned at the top of this page; it almost 100% has nothing to do with the stores themselves. TRU had to file for bankruptcy because their...(I guess) parent company heaped loads of debt onto them from other sub-companies of the parent [I won't pretend to know what's going on, but it's related to mergers and takeovers and not related to the performance of the company itself]. So TRU is stuck trying to find money wherever they can; which at this point is in their stores themselves and cutting back on workers.
This is off topic but I thought it warranted some explanation (however bad said explanation is).
Basically, in 2005, a company bought TRU via debt financing, with TRU itself as collateral. Its the same principle as using a mortgage to buy a house. The problem is that TRU wasn't making enough money to pay their debtors, so here we are.
Edit: Speaking of TRU, do they still have that "buy this $8 item, get another 50% off" thing? Or did that end a while ago?

At least around here, what mainly closed were separate Babies R Us stores; seems like they were trying to merge them into combination stores (which I can't really say I'm shocked by, as the Babies R Us here never seemed to have more than like 10 people shopping in it ever).

You shouldn't be paying tax on those eshop cards because you're taxed on the game purchase.
