Also, the Victory is Life leaks have begun. Separate post from 14.5 stuff because megaspoilers:
Playable races Jem'hadar, Vorta, and Founder, seeming to imply a Dominion faction of some sort.

    Jem'Hadar Escort [T6] Characterclass.Jem_Hadar_Starter_Ship_T6.Displayname/

New ship files of a Jem'hadar ship designated as a starter ship, the same as the Miranda, B'rel, Pathfinder, and T'liss, except it's a T6. This seems to imply the faction will start at level 50 or 60.

Variety of voice files, a character named Captain Jolhi who belongs to a race allied to the Dominion somehow, a Jem'hadar named Kavatkara, Sirella, Martok, Rodek, various Tzenkethi, Sona, and Klingon characters. Many spoilers from Martok's especially, more megaspoilers:
The Tzenkethi and Dominion both end up on the Alliance side, while House Torg and the Sona ally with the H'urq.

First of the announcement blogs are up, release slated for June (for PC)

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10838844

Level cap being raised to 65 is a move I didn't see coming, especially given that there's probably going to be pressure for T7 ships with it, but T7 ships will basically break the game and piss a huge chunk of the playerbase off.
Totally stoked to see Kira returning, she's the best!

They've managed to force planned obsolescence on ships without upping the item budget by constantly tinkering with the metagame - watch what the community does with ship A, iterate through B C and D optimizing what the community did with it, then tweak balance or introduce a new easy to get thing to fuck with the build like a rep set or specialization, and see what comes out of the metagame disarray.

Specializations give far more room to draw this pattern out without upping he load out cap than tier 5 had, keeping the whales buying ships but also letting the shrimp feel like they're on even footing even though hteir ship has been outclassed since season 12.

    Victory is Life announcement thoughts:
Kira's ok, but getting the Quark and Odo Show and Storytime with Garak? Priceless!

Also, there are more DS9 actors yet to be announced. Ten in total, they probably count Martok and Rodek, and the voice files reuse existing Worf quotes in the "Kurland here..." style, so that might be three. That still leaves at least three more.

Level 65 does... Basically nothing, really. Skill points already cap at 50 and spec points don't cap at 60. You'll get a little bit more scaling HP on T6 ships.

    Nitpicks:
All the characters look very much like they did on the show. Ok, so Klingons live like 300 years. Changelings might be immortal. Ferengi live long enough that Ishka was getting cosmetic procedures that made her ears firmer than they'd been in over a hundred years and they still looked like two elephant hides tossed over a satellite dish. Odo, Quark, and Martok probably haven't changed a great deal and are still as much in the prime of life as they were in DS9.

Bajorans, however, have no particularly special life span. Yet Kira's model looks younger than she did in season 7 when she should be a wisened elder like Opaka by now.

    Leaks:

    Grounditem_Enhancement_Tsunkatse_Gloves.Powers

    Groundweppersist_Tsunkatse_Fist_Fx.Powers

New items that showed up in the last tribble patch files. Kirk's bamboo cannon showed up a few years ago and never went anywhere, so no guarantees, but this might be an unarmed combat thing. Alternately, somebody on the team might just like throwing together one off jokes from the show and never actually putting them in the game.

A Kelvin ship box was also found, suggesting more Kelvin-universe lockboxery. Also a new set of temporal ships for all three factions, presumably the T6 rehash of the originals.

I listened to the voice files I linked yesterday in the car today, and noticed something: Martok and Rodek have a few blocks of lines that are slight variations, such as "A Vorta that knows how to fight!" right next to "Now that is the Jem'hadar I knew!" None of these have Romulan variants, and very few have Federation variants, but many have Klingon variants. Some people have speculated that this means the Dominion faction is KDF affiliated like the AoY faction was attached to Starfleet.

    STO_VictoryIsLife_Screenshot_06_Cardassian_FlightDeckCruiser.jpg

Promotional image given to a few random game and Trek news sites of a Cardassian ship. Trekmovie didn't change the file name so we know it's a Flight Deck Cruiser and thus playable. No idea where it comes from - a new Cardassian lockbox or playable Cardassians, possibly as an option within the Dominion faction?

The Devs did a twitch thing and answered a bunch of questions. They dodged or ignored most questions, but a lot was gleaned:
Reused audio isn't being counted, the confirmed returning voice actors are Odo, Quark, Kira, and Martok. Shortly after on Twitter they confirmed Bashir and Garak, who... were originally in the announcement and then removed and declared secret? They posted an image with silhouettes, and a guy on Twitter went crazy on it, but he's already wrong on one, the one he guessed as Dax is actually Bashir, and I'll bet money he's wrong on 5 (I'm betting Sirella). I also think he's wrong on 6, but won't put money on that one.

Jem'hadar faction will be space-Barbie friendly, unconfirmed if boffs will be but the cross-faction JH boff won't be converted to the customizable version, the same way the Reman didn't get options in LoR.

Dominion faction starts at level 60 with a T6 ship and will start out as a separate faction (note: So do Romulans and TOS-Feds) with a head start in several progression systems. They'll be able to replay past content but apparently their campaign starts in the ViL content.

Gamma Quadrant will have a sector map, accessed via the wormhole.

They coyly imply the faction won't be just Jem'hadar, but refuse to confirm what other races will be attached.

They refuse to confirm a DS9 map update while showing pictures of an updated Quarks.

There will be new tier 6 ships, no tier 7 and no tier 6U.

60-65 level curve won't be a step up like they did in Delta Rising.

Only for traits you can't get on that faction (eg getting the Guardian cruiser trait on Romulan or Klingon characters). Anything else you either get from a lockbox on a per character basis, or have to grind out the xp for on each ship.

If you could say unlock the Odyssey traits on one character and then just buy them for any character with access to the ships it'd be brilliant, but alas.

Season 14.5 featured episode has been revealed, and it's something new. You don't get your own ship, you play as the Tzenkethi turncoat from the last few episodes, with her ship and crew.

Temporarily controlling a different ship isn't uncommon, and it's 50/50 whether it's terrible or fun, mostly based on whether you get special hero boffs with OP powers to make up with the freakish loadouts you're saddled with. Like, seriously, why does the Enterprise-C have beam arrays, beam banks, multiple torpedoes, and a single turret, but then have scatter volley as its best tactical power?
    Basil wrote: »

You almost have to get the refit and retrofit. Saucer separation basically makes you a fast battlecruiser with a hangar,
and the retrofit gives the Venture-X skin.
The T5 dreadnought gives a cloak that can take or leave, since it's not on the set. And the T6 cruiser has a console that never sounded that great and the second set bonus doesn't sound as beneficial as the first.

Yeah, pretty much. The whole trait system makes this game very alt unfriendly, especially when a bunch of the best traits are on lockbox ships.

I don't mind logging in to shoot some spaceships but I generally don't start alts because of this.

Shipwank! With the current Infinity Lockbox event, the old temporal ships are being updated to T6.

A little more greebling than the original, and... I think that Eye of Mordor dorsal mounted deflector dish is new.

Sui'mor Temporal Science Vessel (note: looks like the Romulan version gets an antimatter core again instead of a singularity)
    11edabfb465cc3fa6e0abbc9660378d71522371815.jpg
Still sleek, still the winner of the set, only... I really can't unsee that orange butthole visible on the dorsal view.

Priority One has some new Victory is Spiders news:

-New faction is Jem'hadar-only, with different types of Jem'hadar as racial selections.
-Gamma Quadrant sector map is same size as Alpha, much of it dedicated to the sector space territory control system

Priority One can eat a dick, I hate when they publish an interview and then publish the *actual* interview later. Some clarification on the last post:
-Jem'hadar will start at level 60 with decent gear ("Not just white Mk X"), doffs, some specializations filled out, and some reputations filled or partially filled out. Don't start out with any reputation or set gear, need to unlock themselves. They may require a high level character to unlock, or may not.
-Jem'hadar will choose a main faction the way Romulans do for organizational purposes.
-Other playable GQ races are planned for the expansion to join Fed, KDF, and Rom factions, but Dominion faction is Jem'hadar only with variant strains as racial options (Presumably separate Gamma and Alpha breeds, possibly the new Beta breed Eraun had in The 2800.
-Jem'hadar campaign looks at their sense of self and their relationship with the Founders and the rest of the Dominion. These episodes are longer and more involved than any previous ones, and are the first work for a new animator who's apparently really good with cutscenes.
-New battlezone isn't a zone, but a server-wide mechanic with many maps and battles involved (more of a war than a battle).
-DS9 revamp not as extensive as ESD, mainly aimed at being more canon.
-Ship packs for Fed, KDF, Rom, and Jem'hadar will be coming, so super-ultra-mega packs probably coming for the whales.

    And one more:
There will be a Jem'hadar recruit event, but it won't include an exp bonus month like the last two recruit events because JH already start at 60.

New mission is... Eh. When playing as the Tzenkethi captain, you have four powers - three different weapons and a melee. On the ship you have a handful of powers and a set of extra powerful tetryon weapons. You exclusively face low tech enemies - the one enemy that has ships you literally mow through about 60 of them in a few minutes, and I actually went to make food during a ground fight when I mistakenly thought I was just straight-up invincible. When I came back 3 minutes later my shields were almost depleted. Almost. The Tzenkethi captain is an idiot, first acting like a starstruck teenager to be working for such a famous admiral so close to the Autarch, then promptly becoming disillusioned when their campaign of serial genocide ends up being mostly genocide. Has a brief moment of humor when you find the ancient Starfleet chevron from the K-13 mission, and the admiral basically says there's shit like that everywhere because Starfleet can't stop screwing around with time travel, now shut up and get back to the genocide because you're on a timetable and because you took so long now you need to leave the away team behind in order to make it to the next genocide on schedule.

Also, two more actors and three more characters have been revealed:
First one, officially announced: Aron Eisenberg as Nog

Second one, revealed in a crazy easter egg hunt: Jeffrey Combs as Weyoun and Liquidator Brunt.
Rundown of the easter egg hunt:
There was an inconspicuous image posted on Facebook that had a previously unknown STO staff email address on it. If you emailed the address, it gave a gibberish response ending with the 47th Rule of Acquisition. The gibberish could be decrypted with "fourtyseven" as the key to create an image. The image was the text of a link to a distorted audio file. When corrected this audio file was the URL of a re-uploaded version of the ViL trailer, with a bunch of random text and numbers added. These ended up being hints to a secret blog posted on the STO site but not linked from the main page, which was one of those in-character story blogs in which several ViL characters asked for help. An image on this blog had a hidden phone number that, when called, gave another audio file, this one giving a morse code sequence followed by another distorted audio file. The morse code provided a bit.ly link, the audio file was instructions on formatting and characters that don't have morse code equivalents, with the final URL leading to the blog linked just before the spoiler, which is not linked from anywhere in the STO news feed despite the March 26 date.

-Max Grodenchik as Grand Nagus Rom
-Salome Jen's as the female Founder, replacing the knockoff actor from the Dominion FE - we'll finally see if releasing her was as bad an idea as she told us it was.
-And the big surprise: Bumper Robinson as the baby Jem'hadar that Quark accidentally bought. You might remember that most Jem'hadar only live a few months, the few that reach 20 retire as Honored Elders. Elder First Dukan'Rex would now be over 50.

The only characters there that aren't suffering from some obvious design defect are Rom, and possibly Rex.

Weyoun's head is too wide... or maybe his face isn't big enough for his head, not sure.

As mentioned, the Changeling's neck is too long.

Nog's got this weird scrunchyface thing going on that I can't quite pin down.

Lita doesn't really look much like Lita, though the expression might be doing strange things to her face.

They should play Garak straight and just give him an unblinking thousand-yard stare all the time. Maybe they just chose a poor screenshot and he'll look better animated.

Bashir's the most egregious, IMO. At least they clearly tried to match the other characters' looks, but with Bashir it's like they created a custom beard and slapped it onto the defaultmaleface01, like so many other of the game's npcs.

At least the new factions/ships should be fun!

The weird thing about Nog is that he's not new to the game, and he doesn't have the butt on his head in the Iconian War arc. There's literally no reason they should have messed him up.

I think Leta's problem is that they used the Mirror Admiral Leta face, not the old Holo Leta face. Adrmial Leta is a somewhat aged version compared to Holo Leta, so they save that work, but she's got his perpetual comic book villain evil smile that when put on the soft but dimwitted prime universe Leta makes her look like she's tallying up Rom's life insurance payouts in her head while he sits there looking stupid. The real Leta should be a third distinct look, and they got lazy.

There's literally no excuse for Bashir, though. Just... Everything from the neck up is wrong, even allowing that he's the only human on the list and thus has aged the most, he looks like a burn victim, not just an old Bashir.

In the promo art, everybody except Garak looks much better (but Garak looks suspiciously like Damar):

    izem5rbk1wyq.png
Leta still has the villain smile, though. It's all in the eyebrows.

I see they preempted my concern about extending the specialization bar - they shoved all 5 new levels into the step up between 60 and the repeating spec bar, so basically this gives us all 5 quickie spec points before returning to the grind.

The level up rewards aren't bad, either. New captain power, epic doffs, named admiralty ship, boff spec manual. Best part is the level 61 reward: Another T5 ship token *and* a T5U token. That T5U token takes a big bite out of the ship paywall you hit after level 40. Hopefully it won't be limited to crappy picks.
