he's pretty quiet about it, but he makes a lot of TV appearances on the Sunday shows and there are anecdotes that all the people asking Romney to run again are being told by Romney, to turn their support to Jeb because he doesn't want to run again

he has probably been the least obvious of any candidate, and probably waiting to see what the primary field looks like

The newest conflict in the Middle East certainly won't do him any favors, it's doing a great job at reminding everyone of the time spent in Iraq.

This will be my first time voting in Florida. I hate it already

Florida apparently has awful people running for office!

The Florida Democratic party is practically non-existent.

My house rep is weird. He's only been in one term and I guess some progressives want to primary him because they think he is DINO who only switched parties after the district was realigned (his wife is a Republican county judge). Literally the only positions he cares or even talks about are the ones that get money into the district (his entire website is about farm subsidies and various pork projects), but his voting record is actually really good on social issues (pro choice and 100% rating from Planned Parenthood, voted to expand workplace protections, pro gay marriage, voted against cutting welfare and foodstamps).

So he might be a grifter who only cares about federal money for contractors, but he votes the right way so I guess I'm fine with it? He will also never, every lose unless he actually gets caught stealing or funneling pork money to a friend, and maybe not even then because those kind of things are just kind of expected in the RGV.

most house reps are only there to get money for their districts and advocate for local industries

that's... pretty much it if you're not in the leadership ranks. house politics are extremely local. that's sort of the point of that side of the building

One of the reasons why the House has gone to shit is that earmarks were basically what the House was for and how it got things done.

Proudly voting for Wendy Davis, will not be surprised when Greg Abbott fails to fall off of the coattails Rick Perry graciously had tailored to be three times as long as when Bush allowed him to ride them

Yeah, my phrasing sucked there. The fact that I was getting emails from national progressive organizations encouraging me to primary my rep was weird, not the rep himself. I mean, he's a Texas democrat who votes the party line and doesn't make an ass of himself, what more do you want? Go spend money in a race that matters.

We have two ballots concerning guns coming up here in WA, one to remove certain background checks, and one to increase them. I'm kinda curious what happens if both pass.

    Sounds like a logic problem.

Okay, let me see... The net result is... NOTHING HAPPENS?

Or Obama becomes president of the Universe and seizes ALL THE GUNS.

This is a bit unrelated but Joe Biden was at my school today and caused an absolute clusterfuck of a situation just to move around campus, and I ended up late to a midterm, so fuck you Joe Biden.
JK you and me are still tight Joe.

Also unrelated, but Joe Biden once attended a mass at the local Catholic church and then got ice cream in my little podunk town. It caused a lot of hullabaloo.

I'm actually less worried about the national elections and more concerned with the State and local elections here. We have two city council seats up for grabs, and there is a recall petition going around for the current mayor. Exciting times.

I really have a hard time believing that the GOP will put out a strong candidate. If they can settle on a moderate they'll be in the best position. If the GOP wins a majority of both houses this time around then my opinion will shift the other way, but we'll see. They still have to provide the public with solid results after winning the seats.

There was some nice polling recently for Alison Grimes in KY. Grand scheme though, I'm really worried Mitch will keep his job.

It's kinda annoying since most of his campaign has been over coal, when Grimes is just as much in Big Coal's pocket, as he is.
Alison's been running on the issue of gender based wage discrimination, and implementing a higher minimum wage, and I just don't understand how average voters could be more passionate over coal.

every gun purchase requires you to submit to a full background check, but the results are thrown directly into the trash without being read

I think the GOP's best potential candidate right now would be Rand Paul.

    That's damning with faint praise.

It is pretty depressing being a Democrat in an increasingly tea-party-ish Arizona. My only hope is that Terry Goddard wins the Secretary of State position. He's tried multiple times for governor, but he kept getting beaten (though he always got enough votes to look like a real threat). I would have liked to see if he'd actually have a shot at winning after the gaffes that Jan Brewer has made, but I can't blame him for going for a slightly easier fight.

The ebola/terrorism thing is completely insane, and yet it extends far beyond the usual crazy sources. This despite the fact that there's no reasonable expectation for ebola to be used in such a way from a practical perspective (a far slower pain experience for the 'martyr' and less of a public impact than an individual incident).
