Automata Silverside: Thursday, November 13th, 2014 - Page 8
What do you guys think Carl sounds like? For some reason in the first Automata strips, I imagined him sounding like the Robot Ghost of Christmas Past from ATHF, except somehow not supposed to be funny. Like he speaks out of really loud and shitty speakers. I'm not so sure what he sounds like anymore, I basically alternate between various robot cliches in my head.

Something between David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane) and John Glover (Gremlins 2, Robocop 2, Riddler in Batman the Animated Series, Lionel Luthor in Smallville); intellectual and refined without being snotty or foppish. With moderate flanging effects like Mass Effect's Turians.
Or Michael Ansara (specifically his performance as Mr. Freeze in Batman the Animated Series, but a little less severe in delivery), and heavier on the flanging than the above option.
Huh. I never actually thought about it now that you mention it. Until now, I just had the generic 'the mental voice that I read things in', which is just a sort of bland accentless nothing voice.
I'd probably go for standard 'talking computer' voice but maybe with extra 'noise' and bad sound quality. What about Clickwise, what do you guys think it sounds like? I thought of it as ticking noises, like someone using a typewriter very quickly.

anything i read becomes a voice in my mind
not instantly, of course, it takes time for a voice to develop
about as long as it takes for that character to develop
once i have a sense of who that character is, and i have a sense of what i think they would sound like, then my mind just mentally assigns them a voice and that, in my head, is how they sound
I'd say Hyde-Pierce is close, but not quite.
To me, Carl's voice is rather mild, a touch on the refined side, little accent and very human (no flanging or processing), especially for coming out of that slot of a mouth.
