The awards will be Streaming Live on December 5th at 6pm at

There will be game trailers, premieres, musical numbers, special guests, GEOFF KEIGHLEY, and I'm sure much congratulations.

Also, neither DKC:TF nor Smash Bros. WiiU were nominated in the soundtrack/sound design categories, which is a crime. I can't find any games from the first half of the year, actually... that's weird.

I saw GOEFF and was expecting something from Geoff Ramsey.

I'm a little sad that its not.

    You saw no such thing.

Anyway, I don't actively hate any of the nominees, except I'm a little surprised at AC:Unity making it in after its overall reception. Then again, I haven't played it, so can't speak to its quality.

I like that they have a best narrative award, at least.

So Joel McHale as the stalwart professional cohost last year will surely be making a return, yes? :P

(realtalk, he made it watchable. The drunker he got, the better the trainwreck)

So skimming the categories, Alien Isolation and Wolfenstein New Order are undoubtedly the best in their respective category. So watch AC:Unity and Destiny take em. :I

Last year was funny because I was like "Oh hey, it's not being televised, so they'll have time for all the awards and less need for stupid bullshit." And then it became a wonderful, and terrible trainwreck

I wouldn't mind so much if AAA releases in general hadn't shrunk to maybe 25 percent of what they were at this point last gen.

I guess critical reception wasn't too kind to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle. :P

But realtalk, Persona 4 Ultimax should win that category. Pure fighting perfection. Smash Bros'll take it, and that's fine, it's super polished and the Wii U deserves some props, but in a fair world P4U would get the recognition.

used to be at gametrailers and g4 as a journalist, now he pretty much just presents at events

you might know him for being involved in this shindig back in 2012 (don't bother reading it all, it's very old news. just scroll down to the funny pic of keighley staring dead-eyed next to a pile of doritos and a mountain dew halo poster)

As near as I can tell, he's a Doritos and/or Mountain Dew Game Fuel representative who pretends to be a journalist.

There's an ethics in game journalism joke there somewhere.

FWIW he did used to do some pretty good journalistic pieces. He's not in the "journalism" space anymore, though, just a presenter.

Yeah, I think the reason why I don't have as much of an issue with Keighley as some people do (Even some people in this thread) is that he's never seemed like he's presented himself as a real hard hitting journalist type. He's basically Ben Lyons but for video games. So do all the Dew-ritos sponsorships you have to. I understand the difference between a TV host and a journalist.

Fallout 4 is logically the safe bet, but it's been burning people for a year now, so who knows.

Never Alone got a nomination for Games for Change. That's goddamn awesome.

I recognise a LOT of those "luminaries" from when I listened to tons of podcasts at work. There's a lot of names there I have respect for, so that's good.

I actually quite like that there's a Best Remaster category now too. They've become an (unexpected, IMO) cornerstone of the market.

Although that is a bit of a trade-off... although if all these remasters weren't a thing, I don't honestly think the number would be much higher at the moment.

I actually think this will probably be fine. The absence of Spike TV can only help and whatever else you want to say about Geoff Keighley, he's always respectful of games and their creators in ways that not many involved with the VGX's seemed to be.

Despite the seeming lack of buzz Sunset Overdrive got pretty good reviews overall. It apparently didn't sell all that great though (didn't show up in the top 10 -- granted it was only on sale for a few days in the reporting period, but game sales are insanely frontloaded nowadays). Ah well, I'd get it if I had a One.

Sunset Overdrive is very good and anyone who tells you otherwise is a boring person who should be ashamed of how boring they truly are.

It answers the question of "what would happen if I mixed together Jet Grind Radio and Ratchet and Clank and added giant handfuls of Tank Girl for flavor?"
