On monday morning my parents had our great dane Ava put down. She was exhibiting all of the symptoms of dementia and her decline was quite rapid and sudden. She was 11, which is unusually old for a great dane.
Some of you knew Ava, and knew she could be an elegant, gorgeous, and striking dog.
you also knew she could be devious and goofy as fuck. She loved knocking over people doing pushups:
and she loved lying down with her ladyparts showing, the old hussy:
Most of all she was a great companion. I'll miss her terribly.
Today my brother called me to say my dog Olivia had died of heart failure. She went quietly and peacefully, and was 15 years old which is also unusually old for her breed, a bichon.
This dog was goofy as fuck. She ate an entire pan of pot brownies when she was little and has never quite been the same since.
She was a joyful, and sweet little animal. She didn't have a mean bone in her body. I raised her from a puppy back when I was 11 or so and she's been my girl ever since, for over half my life.
She was also derpy as fuck:
but she was always a good sport, even when @Hakkekage made her look evil:
I couldn't be there for her when she died. I wanted to say goodbye, but sometimes you can't and that's life. I did see her the day before she died, so I am grateful for that.
Anyway. Goodbye girls. I'll miss you so much, always.

those are awesome dogs. so many hugs and hearts to you
it's been years but that shit still tears me up inside.
There are three dogs in my home.
One of them was given a medical death sentence 4 years ago or so, and through some creative medicine (my dad is a doctoral biochemist with decades in the industry / submitting drugs to the FDA and he suggested medicines that were not approved for animal use) we have extended her life 3 years past where she should have passed.
Every day, I know that she is on borrowed time. Two pills a day and we still see the occasional seizure.
Life is fleeting, cherish every moment.

Humans should live one decade.
There are pets that live a really long time.
Parrots come to mind.
They usually end up as part of an estate and there is stuff in the will regarding parrots, because those birdies almost always outlive their owners (anywhere from 50-95 years or more depending on subspecies).

Like, when I am around a dog or kitty, I frequently think "Awww how cute and or loyal this animal is".
In my experiences being around birds the only positive emotions I have had is, "well at least it isn't being loud and doesn't smell bad, right now"
