From my experience, getting the cone on a cat isn't the problem. It's when you turn around for a second and when you turn back, the cone is just gone. Cat still sitting there, looking up at you like "What?".
I had my own weird one getting Samurai fixed this week, at least he was good with not wearing it and didn't lick and was a good boy.
But if I put the cone on him, he would LOSE it and just go full tilt everywhere trying to smack it off via chairs/table legs/corners etc. Stopped that immediately, and vet agreed, the odd lick or two going un caught was no where near as damaging as the stress the cone gave him.
( His nickname has become Puppycat, because if I am in the house, he is never more than 2-3 feet from my feet, I even get meowed at to come watch him eat, because he doesn't like leaving my side to go eat)
Super Cute Animals was a decent enough documentary about the cute response. I think it's still on BBC iPlayer for UK guys, so you can watch the whole thing instead of the clips.
The presenter did a bit about how slow lorises are really bad pets, too, which I was hoping he would as soon as they turned up.
