These were pretty good video games. I think I preferred the first one. They felt almost like they were done by different development teams?
I really appreciated both of them, though. Blighttown felt like the lost orphaned child of Misery Mire, and the way that the Dark Souls world kind of flowed logically downward, becoming more and more terrible the deeper you went? That shit felt right. That shit felt good. I played through it three times more or less in succession, all as the same character, and enjoyed it differently for each runthrough. That's an awful lot of granularity for a game structured the way it is.
And I was really affected by the storytelling. Effective. Nice.
That is two of the games I played this year.
It was a Hell of a year.
Rogue might be the coolest "class" in any Diablo-style action RPG ever.
But I did play Sunset Overdrive and Transistor, which were two highly enjoyable games that were super excellent. I did not expect to enjoy either game as much as I actually did. I also (finally) played Starcraft 2: HotS and a few indie titles on Steam (Monaco, Papers Please).
I also meant to play the Sims 4 but the reviews (and EA in general) put me off and I still haven't picked it up yet.
Then we put a freeze on game-buying until after the wedding, so I haven't picked up Inquisition yet even though I very much want to play it.
I can't remember if I played anything else this year. This post was boring. Sorry!
That explains a lot, actually
Was Demon Souls made by the same team as the first Dark Souls? I want to play more by that team and I ain't got no PS4
I wonder if Bloodborne will come it to the PC one day
are lots of people still playing this? because I've been wanting to check it out but have no one to play with
old games of the year:
The Witcher 2
Mass Effect 1-3
New games of the year:
Dark Souls 2
Hyper Light Drifter's demo
The PA guild over in G&T is very active.
The game itself is very healthy and gets lots of dev attention. They have a ten year contract with Marvel so they're in for the long haul. There's a new character every month at least, and they continue to add and refine content.
It's not as polished as Diablo, but if you want a game to scratch the same kind of itch, and like the Marvel IP, might as well check it out. There's like nine or ten characters you can try out for free until level ten, before officially choosing one as your official free starting character.

the ranks are given for basically speedrunning the game (in chunks). You have to clear the game on the highest difficulty without using any healing items, without ever dying or being seen, and without killing anyone (or in MGS1's case, only killing the bare number of people necessary), and finish the game in a very short time, usually 3-5 hours. in 2 and 3 they also limit the number of times you can save your game to prevent save scumming.
it was extremely difficult but also a lot of fun, and relaxing in a weird sort of way

That said, i spent over 100 hours playing FTL, Binding of Issac, and Spelunky this year. And basically all the games I played that i seriously loved were all indy + Farcry 3. With about 3 false starts with the Witcher 2 because i just don't have a extended time to finish it.
... what im saying is put Dark Souls Guy in Smash Brothers.
For both you and She Hulk, I assume.
I don't know if it's my game of the year - I played a lot of good games this year - but it's very much in the running
It was a legit-ass year, though
But this is also the best Smash for me, so.... yeah, maybe

Right now I'm working on both flavors of Smash Brothers and Curtain Call.
I, uh, still play Rock Band 3.
I like Beyond Earth.
I bought Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel but I haven't been able to put a lot of time into it.
Oh yeah, there was also a new Phoenix Wright, which was cool, and I also mostly played Link Between Worlds this year, which was fantastic.
I feel like I'm forgetting some stuff, but I need to stop there and get packing.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS)

FTL: Faster Than Light (PC)
Out of all of those I think only three were released in 2014. My main focus for next year is to clean up my Wii backlog--namely Pandora's Tower, Last Story, and Xenoblade--as well as pare down my PC backlog some. I've escaped the Steam trap (0 games bought so far in the Winter sale) so I feel like I'll be able to make an appreciable dent next year.
Best new game I played was Endless Legend
Most conflicting game was Dragon Age: Inquisition. I keep flip-flopping on whether I love it or not. Don't think I'll have time to finish it anyway.
