That's one of the things I really like about Dragon Age: they'll show you cultures and then give you characters who don't fit the mold for them.
Looking back, I'm pretty sure every single companion in DA:I is specifically very strange/unique in comparison to the rest of their race/class/culture of people.

Nah Vivienne is pretty comfortable within her mold, which is part of why she signs up - she's all about the status quo
But that's what makes her weird: she's one of the very few mages who didn't revolt. She's a mage who supports the status quo, which makes her unique in her conservatism.
she's a mage who believes in the circles, which I don't think is an unreasonable belief. Reinstating the circles with reforms to make the mages stop being crybabies and the templars stop being psychos is the result I'd push for

I'm not saying she's unreasonable; rather I'm saying she's not like most other mages in that regard.
Butts - I kind of want to be a dwarf fighter but I also kind of want to be a human noble fighter but I also kind of want to be an elf Mage. What should I do? This is DA:I, in case it wasn't obvious from the lack of dual classing.
Be a human noble because they get some fun story stuff. Then an elf.
Fuck dwarves (in Dragon Age. They're boring in DA)

Dwarves I think kind of have the least cool story options.
I'd probably go with mage over warrior unless you're going damage rather than tanking, as it's the easiest class to have any combination of companions you want (otherwise, you'll have a hard time fitting Cassandra or Blackwall into your party, both of which are characters with some awesome banter).

Well yes, but the perspective you get is from companion mages and the prominent mage npcs you talk to, who are
1. an apostate mage
2. a tevinter who doesn't see anything wrong with a magocracy
3. leader of the rebel mages
looking back at da2 its the same thing - you bro out with apostates non-stop and the game doesn't really give you much in the way of pro-circle companions or voices
Thanks. Mage it is. I love DA dwarves though. I made the old codgery guy their King because fuck disolving the class system. ALso, after playing the dwarf noble origin story, how can you make Bhaelan king. I'm not even sure that he is sane.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing here. I was saying how I really liked that in DA:I every companion is somehow strange or unique for their class/race/culture. Hence I was saying that Vivienne is not a stereotypical mage given she was one of the few who stayed in her circle after the rebellion.

what i'm getting at is that while vivienne's views are definitely unusual among the mage companions from da:i and past games, its not really portrayed as a minority view in the game's universe. the vote to have the rebellion was supposed to have been extremely close, after all.

Wynne is pro-Circle
In DA:O I played a pro-Circle mage too
which I enjoyed it really influenced my perspective in Inquisition
plus I imported that save so the general public will make comments about how mages cant be that bad if the Warden was one

Yeah, but most mages still went along with it after the vote was made. They make a point of saying how she was one of the few who didn't leave.

well harrowmont isn't really either
I mean
they're a few generations at most from the end of dwarven civilization if they hang onto the caste system
66% of their population is forbidden from fighting the darkspawn regardless of ability
Bianca invented a goddamn automatic crossbow, an invention which could allow them to defeat the darkspawn, but fuck that she's castless

Buncha freaks and misfits stinkin' up this game, I tell you what!

This is pretty much the Bioware / Black Isle secret sauce.
All their best games involve a bunch of special snowflakes in your party working together to save the world.

ever make a friend, and talk to that friend and then after awhile you get to know them and you're like "damn, it was sort of a mistake to befriend you"?

I think it's more accurate to say that the majority of mages probably wanted Cassandra-esque small reforms to the system, and were less gung-ho about going full Anders and blowing up Chantries and shit.

Be all three at once - choose the human noble, glue Spock ears to the sides of your head, and walk around on your knees for the rest of the game.

I would say that regardless, personality-wise he's still very strange for a Qunari.

least surprising post ever
I don't think Vivienne is conservative enough for SKFM, she is after all anti-slavery
it's fucking Micro Machines
it's even made by Codemasters
it is great

I would rather think he takes sera into the inquisition and then asks all the "why do you think that way" questions without ever agreeing with her.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
as a fan of Sera, it disappoints me how few genuine answers you can get out of her
there's a joke here for people less lazy than me
Buncha freaks and misfits stinkin' up this game, I tell you what!
Romanced her and I got a little more info I think?
I dunno, she's a fairly uncomplicated person for how... off she is

wat
uh, Cassandra? She's better than the other templars (as many seekers are) but she's more or less normal
Blackwall's pretty normal except for that one thing
