Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
I'm sure I'll get used to it. Eventually.
that's what they're waiting for
as soon as you get used to it, new buttons
Not an actual, real life hug. Those are always awkward, and I hate contact with actual fleshy human beings.
But I want a Hug button.
XBL:Phenyhelm - 3DS:Phenyhelm
I feel like they promote cliquish behavior and passive-agressive bullying.
They don't really promote it, they confine it to one post.
Instead of getting that crushing reply to your carefully constructed argument that demolishes your argument (and your ego) and then having to endure 15 posts following it that just say "I agree with @Feral " without actually adding anything to the discussion whatsoever, you get the crushing post with a bunch of agrees and awesomes attached but the discussion can continue and the "me-toos" are satisfied without having to post.
But take away those buttons and they will go right back to posting them.
If not, they probably should be.
Also, far more people will click Agree to join in ganging up on someone than they would actually take the time to post about it, even the short little "I agree" posts.
Heck, I'm guilty of it myself, and lately have been trying to make sure I only use Agrees and such when people are speaking generally and not actively arguing against someone. If I disagree with someone I can explain why myself, and if everything has already been said then there's no reason for me to jump in at all unless the conversation continues. To jump in anyways, even in the form of simply adding my avatar to the wall of Agrees on the post telling the person they are wrong, seems like a clear case of bullying the less popular opinion.
Even if that's not the intent, I feel like I've seen plenty of times where someone has said they like or don't like X and actually posts why, but then someone says something like "Well you're wrong/your opinions are bad" and gets like fifty agrees and the person doesn't post on that subject again. Then I'd like to either respond to the person about their opinion (either to try and actively explain why I might disagree with it, or actually support them if I like/dislike X as well) but I personally get discouraged by the wall of avatars who (seemingly) don't want to even have the conversation so why bother bringing it back up? Then I feel bad for not addressing the person I perceived as being bullied.
Note that I mostly stick to entertainment threads like movies, TV shows, and video games, and do not really visit news threads and political threads. I can't remember what the specific movie was, but it was someone trying to explain that they liked/didn't like some movie in the movie thread a few months back and instead of anyone having a discussion with them about it, they just got a "You're wrong" with a ton of Agrees. It stood out to me and now I've been trying to be more cautious of it lately, and as a result I feel I have been noticing it more often.
Though I do feel bad for those who post those things and then barely get any reactions for some reason.
"Disagree"?
"Confused"?
"Let us crush our enemies together"?
"I swear allegiance to the many-headed serpent, at least until some asshole kills him with fire and crabs"?
And don't even get me started on the difference between the ? and ! versions.
What's the difference?
Just call it "Reaction" with no punctuation.
Two buttons.
"reaction" and "REACTION".
Then watch as people give them meaning.
