So I was thinking about one of my favorite movies.
GUESS WHICH ONE
that's right.
Beetlejuice is not only one of the only good Tim Burton movies ever made, it's also one of the best movies ever made, period.
It was later turned into a cartoon, which also kicked a whole bunch of ass and had a tap dancing spider and a redneck hairmonster that said "WHAT IN TARHOOTIES" a lot.
In this thread, I hope to discuss Beetlejuice's portrayal of the afterlife and how it compares to Satre's vision of death as a meaningless bureaucracy.
Or, you know, talk about sandworms. You know I hate 'em.
You wouldn't believe how many supposed essential movies I haven't seen. I didn't have an interest in many of them as a kid and the family barely went to the theatre. I am only now finally starting to catch up. I only saw Pulp Fiction maybe a year ago, for example.
I've seen the movie about 20 times, and watched the cartoon all the time (surprise!). That Clair girl (?) always scared me more than the monsters because of her freaky blond hair and blue eyes.
The dinner guests getting overshadowed and doing the banana boat song is always somewhere near the front of my thoughts.

I was going to be all like, "I have ridden the worm" Muad'dib etc. etc. but:
Did the people who made the cartoon ever even watch the movie?
I don't know who had the idea to make it into a cartoon in the first place. But they nailed the tim burton weirdness with the art style and the puns were awesome.

Oh, no doubts there, it just had nothing to do with the movie except "here's beetlejuice and he's wacky and also there's a girl name lydia who is pale".
It's just disorienting when you're a young child and you watch Beetlejuice and then the cartoon and you can't figure out for the life of you why Lydia isn't running in terror every time BJ appears.

The one where Lydia and BJ get into the fast food business against Scuzzo was awesome.
Drop Dead Fred was like if Beetlejuice was a retarded british guy.
Instead of a retarded american guy?
