My Delicious Pins For Trade
Since there was a lot of talk about Pin Ultimate editions and what which games might get one next, I'd like to get your thoughts on whether future Pin Ultimate Editions should have as many Pins as Killer Instinct will be getting. KI will have 16, the largest set we know of planned for Pinny Arcade so far.
Should there be smaller Pin Ultimate editions with maybe only 4-8 Pins? Do you think that makes them less "Ultimate?"
What if there was a game that only had 1000 Pin Ultimate copies available, and each only came with 1 Pin, would you call that "Pin Ultimate?"
I don't know the full story on how the KI Pin Ultimate Edition was conceived, going back there has been a lot said about it, but I think what was not mentioned was the idea that they wanted a physical connection to your digital experience. It makes me wonder if future Pin Ultimate editions will be tied to more games that only have digital versions available or if we'll see them for games that have physical media.
Also Mike and especially Jerry talked about Killer Instinct (the original game(s)) in a podcast a while before the Xbox One version. If you go back and listen to a lot of them, you'll hear a lot of things that ended up happening down the road (i.e. Stripsearch which we ended up getting a Pin for too) I imagine Penny Arcade will want to do Pin Ultimate editions for games that fans will enjoy, but also ones that they themselves want to see succeed because those games captured their own enthusiasm.
I have an extra Aus Chandra by the way. I prefer to trade in person, and I'm holding onto it for a really good trade. Whomever it was that mentioned it in the podcast, you're welcome to hit me up to talk trades. I'm only missing 5 Pins at the moment (East Kemper, and the rest of the Aus Pins - which I had to trade all plus more to obtain a DLC).
Pins!
I can't wait for the next one.

Yeah. My connection was not great. I'll be sneaking on the work connection for the next one so it should be clearer. The low part I can't help, that's just me.

What's the intended frequency of new episodes being posted? Monthly? Biweekly? Or just whenever is convenient?
In any case, looking forward to the next one! (And if you're ever looking for guest panelists, I totally volunteer my squeaky girl-voice. )

My Delicious Pins For Trade
I highly doubt that Nintendo would ever partner with PA for a pin set. I know that some Pin Pals get wet dreams over such a thought, but if history is any indicator you'd know how tightly Nintendo clutches the marketing of it's intellectual properties. Plus it's not like they need any help selling limited edition copies of any their games. If Nintendo wanted to make a pinny edition Mario Kart or something they could just make it themselves, no need to invite a third party to share the pot. Not that I wouldn't be pleasantly surprised if they did, but I'd be willing to bet an Elspeth pin that they won't.
On the main subject of the KI set, it just made me realize how mad I am about it. I don't own a Xbox One yet, and certainly am not going to buy one just for KI and the pins to go with it. You're talking about an investment of over $600 just to get started on the set, then the near impossible tasks to earn the other pins, or paying a whopping $15 for each empty spot in your collection. Terrible. Now granted, if this had been for some other games I would be completely flipped in my opinion. Assassin's Creed 4? I would be all in. So I won't hide the fact that the platform, genre, and challenge all factor into my opinion.
But glad to hear that I'm not the only person without the KI set, or finally accepting that I will never own the DLC pin.
I have doubts as well, but of course I hope it happens too. http://zelda.com/skywardsword/comic/ happened, so who knows?
More Pins, better; Pins for games I enjoy, best.
Mainly though, are you serious about being willing to bet an Elspeth Pin on this? What would the terms be, because the future goes on for a long time.
Do you think Pinny betting might become a thing? Would it go against the principles of Pinny Arcade? Could this be the start of an underground Pinny empire?!!?!?

Well I'm going to be open about it: I was planning on getting all the consoles (insert meme here) when I moved to the US. The Pins did sway my decision as to which I got first, and the timeframe of buying it.
But really, it wasn't a case (to me anyway) of dropping $499 (thank you Costco) on a XBone for the Pins. It was more a case of everything aligning to point me in that direction: Want a console, have money, Pins on the XBone, done. If they had been on the PS4 I would have gotten that, and the XBone when it was cheaper. I'm sure that if/when a PS4 exclusive Pin Edition comes I will be rushing to the store with a fistful of cash to get that as well.
I would suggest that the main argument I made for it (garbled as it was in the static and poor connection) is that maybe you should use the Pin Editions to broaden the genres in your game collection. You like the Pins, and Mikes artwork on the characters is pretty sweet here (with the best still to come, apparently) so why not give a game you might not otherwise buy a chance? You might surprise yourself and be into it, even if you suck and can never get past rank 2 of multiplayer. *shameface*
I haven't played KI or any other beat-em-ups since I was in university. I'm more the RTS type. But between KI and AC4 I've been having a good time with both. I'm sure that whatever the next Pin Edition is, I will enjoy it, even if I might not know what I'm doing initially (or ever, a la KI).
Getting both is obviously expensive. But you can always try finding someone to share with. If a friend has a XBone, offer to trade some time on it for buying dinner. Then you can kill each other over pizza.

Highlight was definitely the second DLC pin story. So cool.
I liked the paced and the balance of news and opinion. I liked that there was pin-related game talk, not just 'strictly' pin talk.
Some good opinions here too, like that Pin Ultimate editions can encourage you to branch out in your gaming habits (agree) and that this first one just seemed a bit rough because it was a new generation of console (agree, and this will clearly decrease with time).
Anyway, great stuff guys. I thought afterwards what we could add to it. I think that community questions/topics would be cool. Like, people writing in and asking for you to talk on a specific pin-related topic. Guests from the community would be great as time goes on too. Would love to be involved in one at PAX Aus. I think a podcast (with video?) from each PAX would be awesome, especially at a trading area so we can see/hear the excitement of trading and get people's views on pins (hardcores, newcomers, staff, vendors, etc.)
Congrats on getting the first one done. Looking forward to more.

The idea was to include the monthly FAQ on the podcast, but with the December and January FAQs being combined into the Snapdoodle Pinquisition we didn't have anything for last time. Next time though, we should hopefully have this months FAQ answers to talk about.
But certainly, if you have topics you want covered that don't fall under the auspice of the FAQ, stick them in here. And if you have stuff to talk about we will see if we can organise having Community people on. (It will probably be a one-on-one talk with whoever is available when you are, since organising 5 people from disparate time zones will kill us all.)
The pace and balance is all down to Pureval editing. We basically ramble and rant at each other for about two hours, deal with Skype static and dropping calls, and then have it cut into something approaching professionalism.

I was so freaking jealous at that. lol
One thing that I realized while listening is that I'm a gamer first, and a Pin Pal second. I did get a PS4, and plan to eventually get a Xbone and Wii U too. As I said, I wasn't going buy an Xbox One just for KI pins, but you know what? I will run out and buy one as soon as a Halo game comes out for it.
I've pumped a good amount of money into pin collecting, but that's probably only a fraction of what I spend on games. I have a library of about a thousand video games, so I don't feel that pins are going to help me stretch out to "try new stuff".
Good discussion though, and I'm looking forward to the next podcast.
