New page of the thread; for any lurkers out there, if you wanna give this game a try and need a friend referral for sick rewards and friendship, I am also going to start paying anyone who friend referrals with me, regardless of if they stick with this game or not or whatever, 100k gil in game to get them started with a good chunk of change, in addition to access to my lore knowledge and crafting skills.
I am committed to evangelizing for this amazing game, and not just because of Twintania mount, but because this game really is that much fun and is at least worth giving a try.

So, I got DRK 60. Was a bit dissappointed with the DRK60 quest, then finished ARF and the MSQ. Then I realized since my WHM just did the two 24man raids (pre WoD) after hitting 50, I never really unlocked any 50 dungeons or hard modes. So I spend the evening doing that, and I'll run through them tomorrow to open up the high level roulette for more Law tomes.
Did Vault for the first time last night as an AST. That last boss fight was a nightmare to heal, with so much AoE damage. We wiped the first time (ran completely OOM) and I was reaaaallly low by the end of the second attempt when we got him down. Is it normal for ASTs to struggle healing there, or would this/could this have been a product of DPS taking a longer time than intended to down him?
Edit: video of the fight I took for a friend, in case anything jumps out. I do take two knights to the face towards the end, one of which would have been really tough to avoid.

He's just a hard boss period. I think the second hardest boss right behind the Fractal boss. On my whm the first few times I went thru it I was going oom a lot, and not just from constant healing of aoe. If you have to rez twice in that fight you are in for a rough fight. Part of the problem is the chain. It just doesn't break before you take two hits I find, no matter how much people try to move and break it. usually that means 2 or 3k damage on both members before the chain disappears. Add to that his hard hitting aoe and yeah, you can go deep into your mana pool healing that.
Toss on top that he can hit the tank or a dps very hard, and you got all the makings for someone dying soon. Once you get out into your law gear it'll get somewhat easier but coming up thru the ranks with less than optimal gear is a real big challenge.
So yeah, I think all healers are gonna struggle. Faster dps would only mean you get same stress but not run totally out of mana. I don't think I ever felt comfortable in that fight till after I had 10 rounds under my belt with abiliies and having some 59lv or better gear, and my tanks were a little less squishy, and I had better dodging dps members on the avoidable damage.
Just stick with it and do it over and over. Practice thru struggle really will teach you how to adjust to mechanics and make you a better healer, imo. I hate the fractal boss to this day and I can heal him with usually no problems even when we get an exploded mine/bomb somewhere along the way (or a tank turning to someone when santification is going out).
edit: Yeah, watching the video, there are tons of places you could have dodged and not taken damage. That's just getting use to when his mechancis go out. like his 4 aoe centered on each member fire ring, that starts out as just 1x but later one he does 1x and then a few seconds later a second one. Knowing that you can postion yourself so you are in the gap for those knight waves and leave your self room to move north or south when the second fire ring appears under your feet (assuming of course your dps hasn't overlapped you!). That would save you spending mana on yourself to heal thru that bleed affect plus frontloaded damage.
Also, when he moves to center and the two stationary knights show up, one thing I do when the orbs appear is dps on a max of three orbs (either thru a dot or one/two attk spells), and then try to recoup some mana while letting the others finish it. That always saved me a bit of mana.

That fight is pathetically easy if everyone is doing what they're supposed to. Looking at your vid now, but I'm predicting "nobody was avoiding the aoe". (edit: I know it's your first time, if that sounded mean)
Edit: Okay, yeah, not even at the end yet and I've seen at least five times where people got run over by the horses. They *hurt* and do debuffs as well. They're the worst thing you can get hit by.
The derpgoon (that's what the third on the list was, yes?) was eating other aoes too.
But as far as damage/healing output, you're fine. Just turn your camera towards the north (the horses always come from the north); the boss has zero cleaves himself so you can sit right on top of him if you need to.
He also has a fixed rotation, so once you know it by memory you'll be moving to dodge the ground aoe before it's even out.
This being your first time, it sucked, but trust me, once you've done it a few times, it's very farmable and one of the more fun instances to do just that.

Pro strats: When your two DPS die just leave them dead then duo the rest of the boss with your friendly neighborhood tank.
I actually don't know anything about healing but I do know when I did that fight our two DPS were dead while the boss still had a good 20% HP left and our healer did not raise them. We were victorious. It was p fun.

QUESTION!
Does a single piece of right side gear count towards ilvl with the same weight as left side gear?

No, DPS seems average for that kill. You need to tighten up on MP management. That fight features a lot of tank damage since it's all magic based and some big group burst damage that is more scary than actually dangerous. Most tanks are lacking one/two CDs for that fight since those CDs are specialised against physical damage.
Some general critique:
You need to be using Luminiferous Aether a lot more often. Pop it as soon as you hit like 80% MP and on cool down if you're below 80%. That was a near 4 minute fight; you could have gotten a second use out of that ability.
Understand what kind of damage goes out. There's the damage that you need to heal back quickly because of a second or third or fourth hit in succession, and there's the damage that just lingers and isn't really threatening because there's no follow up. You don't need to keep everyone 100% topped off; you used a lot of Aspected Helios and followed up with Helios which negated the HoT effect when there's little follow up. That's wasted MP. Hint: Except tank damage, there's virtually no lethal follow up damage on the party in this fight unless they derped and took avoidable damage. Panic and you start blowing Benefic IIs and Helios unnecessarily. That costs you MP big time.
HoTs HoTs HoTs. If you're using Diurnal Sect, make sure you abuse those HoTs (Aspected Benefic). Try to keep 100% uptime of that on the tank because they're going to take constant damage and HoTs are really damn efficient in healing per MP. The more stable your baseline healing is, the less you need to rely on Benefic II, which is a massive MP hog.
Get rid of Slow faster. If no one is going to die immediately, you need to get rid of any Slow effect on yourself as a top priority because that affects your HPS.
Swiftcast is more than just for battle ressing. Use it as a mobility enhancer or simply reducing the cast time on the Helios line.
One piece of advice I received from someone who had done Coil raiding when it was current content, is for casters to always have Sprint active if possible. It makes it much easier for them to get out of the way of ground effects and doesn't cost them as much as someone that relies on TP.
Did they give up on the 1 handers for casters? I noticed once I hit 50 there was like, the garuda conjuror arm I think and the shield from WP and that was pretty much it ever.

It seems like it. Even back then it was hard to use a 1H since there was a lack of caster shields to pair it with.
Style wise I do kinda like the Wand/Shield look, maybe at some point they could just drop as a pair like they do in Tera (Or NIN daggers in this game). It's not as important as Paladin shields with Block Strength vs Block Rate, they're pretty much just stat filler.
is there some way to make bloodletter resets not the most annoying thing ever. why didn't they at least have the button light up
I'm with you. I got used to watching the scrolling combat text for procs when leveling Machinist; now on Bard it's back to mashing the BL button constantly so I don't get distracted by staring at the toolbar.
Eh you get used to it. Do an attack, glance at your bar to see if it spun back up.
That said, I'd really love if there were a more convenient way to track my buffs and the bosses debuffs. Focus bar doesn't seem to prioritize my debuffs the same way the main HP bar does. I'm considering moving the main HP bar down to just above my hotbars so I can more easily track my DoTs and timers.
Are Tonberries and Mamool Ja the only sentient races without a primal? Or was Tonberry King a primal?
Tonberry King was not a primal, I think he might just be the last Nymian king who succumbed to the tonberry plague. He hosts their curse in part inside him apparently.
Mamool Ja may in time have a primal but have none at the moment. Qiqurns, those rat people, also don't have one yet.

Level up your Weaver and craft some caster gear
But now you need some Leather oh dear
So this is what you do
Level up your Leatherworker and tan those hides
But your crafts are lame you're in it for the ride
So this is what you do
Level up your Carpenter and whittle up some wood
Make some crafting clogs, man you're looking good
So this is what you do
Back to Weaver and make some robes
Back to Leatherworker you need some HQ gloves
Don't need a hat because you have a Friendship Circlet!
Craft some pants, HQ only, yeah you've done it!
An HQ belt too sure why not
Full set of HQ crafting gear you've got
For a couple levels at least. But hey, at least now all the Level 1 crafting classes have a full set of HQ for me to use when I get to them.

Yeah between that and having to farm Leviathan till it dropped an i100 shield for WHM you can see why they dropped the idea of wand and shield.

I do not know who that is or what dungeon you are referring to.
