Some of you may know of David Sirlin, who's a game designer who's been featured prominently on Penny Arcade before (he wrote
a guest news post a few years back, and Jerry once called Sirlin's tabletop game Puzzle Strike
his favorite game of all time) -- in addition to being the designer on video games like Street Fighter HD Remix, he's designed several tabletop games like Flash Duel and Yomi.
I'm an unabashed Sirlin fan (if you couldn't already tell) and I'm going to be at Prime with a full set of cards for his newest game, a card game called Codex that emulates the deep customization of games like Magic: The Gathering or Hearthstone without having the collectible aspect. It also differs from "Living Card Games" like Netrunner in that it's meant to be played competitively for years without the set of cards constantly evolving. It's a really fun, interesting, dynamic game that has the depth and replay value of those games while also having enough new mechanics that really set it apart.
What I'm hoping to do is to find people who are interested in playing at PAX and setup one or more times where we can get a few like-minded people together and play. I'm staying at the Sheraton and am there from Thursday through Tuesday (I definitely plan on bringing Codex to the pre-PAX Boardgame Night for instance), so I can be pretty flexible in terms of time(s). It would be great to just get a small group together and go play at the tabletop freeplay area or in one of the hotels or whatever works for people.
So if you like MtG or Hearthstone (or RTS games like Warcraft 3/Starcraft) and are interested in learning a cool new game that's still in development, please let me know and we can try and coordinate something. The game is pretty far along in development and it's really fun to play right now. Mainly it's just getting balancing changes at this point, so the core mechanics are set meaning I promise you'll have a good time (I'll refund the $0 cost to play with me if you don't). Feel free to post a reply to this and I'll go ahead and try to coordinate with everybody.
