    novelty music, but straight-faced

    And sometimes it kinda works

the band itself would be decent if they started to use actual instruments

I am convinced all of the bands that show up in eurovision can't actually play any instruments or sing. All they know how to do is jump around and vaguely move their lips around in time with the track made by some nameless audio engineer locked in the record label's basement with a laptop.

Not that van canto was in eurovision, that comment just made me think of it.

    I fixed my computer!

...by dusting out the vents even though HWmonitor said nothing was running hot.

Honestly at this point I think I'm just going to start burning incense and praying to the Machine God whenever this thing acts up.

I should probably watch this show at some point.

I should also probably listen to some more metal, all I've really heard so far is Iron Maiden... and Sabbath, I suppose.

Dethklok is legit good music. It's completely tongue in cheek but also pretty authentic. It's a lot more melodic than a lot of modern "serious" metal so I think it's easier for new listeners to digest.

Get the Murmaider track and listen to it a few times.. if that doesn't hook you, it's probably not your thing. If you end up not liking the growling vocals you're probably best off with 80's and 90's metal because there's not many acts today not doing it.

If you're looking for not so much heavy metal as maybe fantasy metal, Rhapsody of Fire is your beast. Christopher Lee did an album with them, pretty recently.

All of Dethalbum is top notch. If you're gonna buy one Dethklok, get that. It's my favorite album in the last ten years.

Metal is all right too, I guess.

there's plenty of metal bands that still use clean vocals. Mostly in the progressive or power metal genres though. Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, Adagio, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Shadow Gallery to name a few.

harsh vocals are something you have to get used to. i hated them for a while. there is some music that just wouldn't work as well without them though. i like the bands that can alternate or have two vocalists to fill both roles, like Opeth, Amorphis, Silent Descent, so on.

some of my favorite bands these days pretty much only utilize harsh vocals, or do so the majority of the time. Few examples would be Insomnium, Be'lakor, Septicflesh, Xerath, Dominia.

While it doesn't strictly fall into the category of metal, Babymetal certainly slots into "silly gimmick metal".

I mean, I bought the album on iTunes and have yet to regret doing so, if that says anything,

red fang is definitely one of the most approachable metal bands I've heard

actual singing, no gimmicks, no 12-minute dirge wankfests, just some good straight up American no-bullshit fuckin' METAL

  • ShortyShorty touching the meat Intergalactic Cool CourtRegistered User regular
also @UEAKCrash this is the first time I've heard Elder

    it definitely scratches an itch

  • AdusAdus Registered User regular
i recognized that Haken video by the image still alone.

i'm not really into 'no-bullshit american metal' because it's generic as fuuuuuck.

Might have went on a bit of a tangent, but it's all stuff I enjoy along those lines.

Gonna go ahead and throw in some Mastodon. Their last two albums have been very accessible. They've gone from sludgy to proggy to poppy in 6 albums.

Also that album art is bitchin'.
