In which Anderson .Paak raps while drumming really really well
he started out as a drummer and used to do this all the time when I saw him shows like 4/5 years ago.
Oh, neat! I only got into him via his Compton appearances, which led me to checking out Malibu when that dropped. I'm very much late to the .Paak party

He used to be known as Breezy Lovejoy and was in a pseudo group with Dumbfoundead, Wax, and a few others from the LA area. He actually changed his stage name at his warmup show for dumbfoundead when I saw him in Austin.
They had been recording it in secret for the last year
Phife Dawg died before it was finished, but they called in Consequence and Busta Rhymes to help them bring it home

True story: I have never heard a Tribe song. Their reputation as a lyrical miracle backpacker inspiration kind of steers me away from them. Am I wrong in my assumptions

Been listening to a lot of Arcade, by Topaz Jones. This sunny, souly record that puts me in the same headspace as .Paak's Malibu or Chance's more up-tempo stuff. His persona feels a bit more mature than either of them, though, which is a nice change of pace. And he's a bit more willing to subsume his voice into the mix, letting the (very good) instrumentals pull focus.

I can't get past Danny Brown's voice being super grating to my ears enough to appreciate Atrocity Exhibition, which is kinda too bad. But I've tried like... a few times now.
He shall be my hip-hop Rush, I guess.

J Dilla took their style to the mainstream level with "Vivrant Thing" which I believe most people have heard

The final Tribe Called Quest album is titled "We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service"
It features Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, and Elton John

Anyway, it's good and I like it.
But is there a greater gulf between the volume of an artist being featured and them putting out their own goddamned music
I swear to god if any major hip-hop album comes out, Andre 3000 is on it
He was on Kanye's album, Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, and now ATCQ
Where's your own music, Andre 3000
