Who the hell is buying gamecubes? what do they retail at new these days, I know used ones are dirt cheap, but I imagine their RRP is quite high still, new.

Probably people who are sick of being unable to find a Wii but really, really want to play TP. I toss around the idea of getting one every now and them myself. How did GC TP sell anyways?

I think the most impressive sales are for the 360. Really not far behind the Wii especially considering its March and the things been out over a year, and ahead of the PS3 which is taking a dive.

Or the GBA. I mean what the fuck, have 140,000 prisoners of war just been let free from somewhere who havent realised the Ds exists?

You have to remember that the Wiis are in short supply. If there was a good supply of Wiis I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii had been number one. As it is, however, I don't think Nintendo's complaining much.

if VGcharts is to be believed, the GC version has sold around 1.2mill, and the Wii version around 3.5mill.

    Oh no I completely agree.

If Wiis were on shelves they might double their sales.

That said, thats all part of the game. I mean you can 'what if' all sorts of things but the fact is the Wii has sold that amount and the 360 isnt too far behind.

They are fanatic about their NPD's over there so I would actually trust those over numbers from other places.

I think the only thing holding the Box back right now is price. That is the message I am getting from those numbers.

The NPD numbers leaked there were so accurate that NPD actually contacted the forums and worked out a deal where certain numbers could be posted to the forums, but only by a specific person that they knew, who got raised to admin status.

So yes, the numbers at neoGAF are accurate.

    Mmm hmm.

I really want to buy each of the consoles, but the lack of software for the PS3 and Wii... turns me off.
That happened to me with the 360 as well. Remember that huge drought the 360 went through?
    Now I have a 360 and I adore it.

I know I didn't feel any regret trading my copy in towards Pokemon yesterday. Well, besides the twinge of pain from losing 20 bucks on a game I bought just two weeks ago.

    not much wii software....

are people really desperate to try the wii but then once they get it realise there's not a lot of solid material to keep it going atm?

Or, people are buying lots of different wii games instead of just one game.

I actually think it somewhat more likely that those who are hardcore enought o get their hands on a Wii are looking to the virtual console early on to relive some of their former glory.

Sad to see Paper Mario not on the list, or WarioWare, but until Nintendo decides to release sales numbers for the VC we'll have no way of knowing if it's a case of "buying it, playing Wii Sports, and never touching it again" or "Buying it... then punch-out, mario world, starfox, Gunstar Heroes, Kid Icarus... and not having any money left to get anything else."

Well, Paper Mario wouldn't be on there because it didn't come out until April. We'll see how it does on next month's report.

No, people are desperate for a Wii but are not finding any stock.

that... doesnt address the sales #s for games?

eh there's just not a whole lot of convincing software out fo the wii right now

or the ps3 for that matter.

    Oh. Software. Didn't see that.

Yeah, that's probably it. Sales will pick up once companies stop releasing ports. Or everyone is just playing Wii Sports.

Right. The Wii does come with a pack-in game. Most of the supercasuals are just playing that right now.

Also, holy crap. The PS3 beaten by the GBA two months in a row?

Forget LOL. How about WTF Sony?

    yah but.... 130k ps3's * $600 = $78,000k (78 million dollars)
    148k gba * $80 = $11,840k (12 million)

    i mean

it's not hard to sell 148k gba when they're so cheap.

Each GBA sold at $80 makes a healthy profit, while each PS3 sold is costing sony $texas.

    Well that's stupid.

They should've taken into account its obvious awesome and pre-dated its sales figures so that we could talk about them now rather than a month from now.

In other news, I can't remember when March is.

That's true, but PS3 is sold at a loss. Nintendo selling GBAs is like free money at this point.

Guitar Hero 2 for the 360 came out on April 3rd. It had a very short time and it sold amazingly well for a game that costs 90 dollars in that short of a time period.

I tip my hat to the average consumer, who continues to pleasantly surprise me by embracing Wii and Guitar Hero. I thought the former would take more time, and I thought the latter would never happen.

I hope that the absence of a Motorstorm boost teaches Sony that their console is not going to move until the price drops. I want them to stop hurrying development in an effort to create the game that will sell a $600 machine. I dig Motorstorm, but there is an awful lot of time to think during those load screens, and I usually think about how just another month in development might have allowed the game to store some info on the hard drive and give me some of my life back.

Hah, yes. That was actually my first response actually - "Where's Super Paper Mario?"

But then I also remembered when March was. Although honestly, I'm not expecting it to be in the top 10 for April either. Super Paper Mario, while awesome, doesn't seem like a "top 10" type of game. If it is there, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not expecting it.
