On the low end of things, I 100%'d Brisban Wildlands last night.

Gotten into a decent rhythm of dropping Longbow 5 to tag a group, running in, drop Flame Trap, swap to Gratsword, 3 to blast the field, then spamming 2 every time it's up and 5 to interrupt while my pet holds all the aggro. I've solo'd a few "boss" type events doing this, things that I remember were a huge pain trying to solo on my Ele.

Not sure where to go next.

    WELL

Have you been to Lion's Arch yet? I'd suggest going through Gendarran Fields to get there.

Yeah, I hopped over there via the gate in the Grove just to relax a few nights ago, it's also 100%. As is the Grove. I could go over to Gendarran, I suppose. The game seemed to want me to head to Metrica next for some reason, or I could head over in to the mountains. I'm around 26-27, so there are options, it's just a matter of choosing one, but I don't think I've had a character really leave Brisban before, not sure if there's a "logical" next place for the Sylvari personal story so I'm not warping around later.

If you're looking for the next natural step for a Sylvari, I believe you'll want Kessex Hills, which is on the North East side of Brisban. It's the same level range (15 to 25?) as Brisban, and I believe there is some Sylvari story stuff that happens there. When you hit lvl30 the next story chapter will open up, and then I'd just go wherever that wants you to go. :)

(Also, yes, stop by the Guild Hall and grab a buff. There's no reason to not have one.)

Kessex ALSO happens to have some gathering nodes that drop relatively valuable crafting mats: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toxic_Seedling and they only appear in that zone.

Huh. I didn't know that. The game isn't great about telling people with HoT what actually qualifies as a HoT thing and what doesn't, and I wouldn't have expected those buffs to require HoT.

*shrug* No biggie. I just haven't bothered yet since I have so much not-expansion to go through.

It's especially crappy for them to require HoT when they took away the old guild buffs that everyone used to have access to.

I need Memories of Battle for Legendary crafting, so I tried out WvW tonight. (Technically not my very first time, but the first time I did more than poke my head in, look around, and leave.) One of the daily achievements was to gain 2 WvW ranks. In an hour of play, I earned less than 200 WvWXP... which is pitiful compared to the amount needed for one rank, let alone two. Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing... help?

Make sure you get into the swarm that is roaming the map. If you can't get into the group, make sure you can throw out lots of aoe/constant ranged to tag things to get xp.

Not sure if this is still valid, but one way I used to get WvW rank, was find a shortish cow supply route that isn't being harassed, and just constantly escort it. The event completion would give you a decent chunk of progress.

If Memory of Battle is all you need, I think those can also be purchased on the TP. If you need the Gift of Battle, that one you'll have to fill the reward track to get.

Today's log-in reward was a chest of exotic gear.

Should I wait to open this until I'm at cap, or is it safe to open whenever?

iirc, its always level 80 gear, no matter when you open it.

I think its account bound? Just throw it in the bank for now, in case you end up changing characters. When you open it, it will ask you to pick a class. So may as well wait until the last minute.

So for making monies in GW2, is it currently better to craft items and sell them, craft item ingredients and sell those (hilts, blades etc), or just harvest materials and sell those directly? I originally leveled armor and weapon smithing upto 400 when that was the max back in the day, was thinking of doing some more crafting but really atm I'm just poor and have few ingredients in my bank.

I've just ordered an ultra widescreen monitor ! 2560x1080, I'll take a few selfies over the weekend, assuming it arrives on time, and post them. Really looking forward to seeing what difference the extra width makes.

    It's also 34" which is hyuge !

There's a website called GW2 Efficiency (I think) and it a really neat function of scanning your bank for materials, and telling you the cost and profits in making various items.

It also scans the market for the prices of raw materials and tells you the profit margins for if you have to buy the materials first.

It's a bit of work to get going (you log into your gw2 account and it will generate a special key that you enter on the site). It can then see, but not access, all your characters and gear, and tell you the market value of everything you own, if it can be sold.

You can also use you daily laurel rewards to buy T6 mats, and sell them for pure profit.

Do the daily quests, too, for a daily 2g reward.

When I needed to start making gold, I also checked out a few YouTube videos, on gold making, for a lot of simple tips and tricks.

And if you're in the guild, make sure it's selected as active, if you have more than one - you get a 10% discount on waypoint fees, and every little helps.

And visit the guildhall daily to harvest the nodes ! You'll get a nice mix of leather, wood, ore and food, for free.

I really want shared inventory slots to go on sale - does it happen at all ?

I have 4, but I could do with a few more.

And some character slots, for my second account, would be nice...

@M-Vickers Wow thanks for the tips! I've only ever been with [NICE] so I'm always representing on all my chars. I knew about some of that but I had no idea the guildhall had nodes to harvest!

In other news I used some tomes and a lvl 40 boost to pop a brand new ranger upto 80 tonight. Had just enough gold to get him outfitted. Great fun!

If they ever do go on sale I imagine it's not often but I am patient. I've managed to pick up a couple things I had my eye on the past couple months(wings, makeover kits). Now I'm just waiting on ident repair kits to go on sale. Shared inventory slots on sale would be nice, too.

They have gone on sale at least once in the past. I know this because I bought one, and I wouldn't have bought one otherwise due to my Cheapskate's Disease (allergy to paying full price).

I'm ok at resisting the cosmetic stuff, but I have a feeling that over the next few months, I will gradually upgrade to max slots, both bank and characters.

And the next time the base game gets a sale I'm grabbing a third account, as chest parking and daily logins are nice money spinners, too.

Yeah, I kinda regret not grabbing a 2nd HoT account the last time it was on sale. Oh well. Here's to hoping Black Friday will have some nice deals.

(For reference, there was one year where they put a bunch of gem store stuff on sale the weekend of Black Friday, and another year they didn't. No telling what they'll do this time. )

Dungeons are fun for the most part. They'll tie into your story as far as what's happening with Destiny's Edge.

Also, it's your choice as far as starting a new character goes obviously, but I will second the necro suggestion. It's fairly simple and really tanky.

Sounds like you're falling for the most common mistake of leveling in GW2 for the first time. The Best Way to Level(both in terms of speed and maintaining interest) is to largely ignore hearts and just explore, doing any and all events you find. Don't worry about doing hearts or 100% map completion until you go for world map completion, unless you are close to finishing them after doing a nearby event or two.

As for dungeons, they can be safely ignored until you hit the cap (since you level-adjust to the right level when you do them) In fact, some particularly snobbish people would probably scoff at you doing any of the dungeons before 80, because while you are level-adjusted, that adjustment doesn't take into account for the 3-stat combos and exotic/ascended gear quality that doesn't exist at lower levels. It is pretty good XP (IIRC 70% of your total XP bar for completion) if you can find a group though, and I'm sure several of us would be more than happy to do some with you.

If you want to do something different beyond map completion, why not try WvW or PvP? The reward tracks for both give out tomes of knowledge for an instant level... or you can try out some of the World Bosses you can reach at your level if you want something PvE that's a bit more involved.

I saw that same advice earlier, but I don't really understand it. If you're not filling out hearts, what, exactly, are you exploring for? If I'm going to run around filling in all the PoIs and Vistas, I might as well fill in the hearts along the way. The problem is, very little is a challenge right now. I took on a heard of around 10 centaurs earlier and, while they came close to downing me, I never really felt threatened. LB5, 2, swap to GS, run in, lay Fire and Snake traps, 3 to Leap Finish, 2 to Vuln, let AA fire, using 2 every time it's off cooldown and repeating the field combos whenever they're up. And I had to go out of my way to engineer that scenario; most running around the map, things die too fast to bother doing anything other than spamming 1&2 with whatever weapon I have out at the moment.

I remember trying WvW long ago, on my Ele. I had no idea what was going on at any given moment, so I just cast spells into the mosh pit until I got bored with it.

Well, I've got some more story missions to do now, so that should break it up a bit.

You are exploring for XP. Every area, PoI, Vista etc gives you xp, as well as every event you do and anything you gather. Mobs you kill that haven't been killed by another player for a while give bonus XP as well. Neutral monsters that aren't automatically aggressive are secretly a good source of xp, since most people never bother killing them.

Hearts give xp when you finish them too, yes, but they can be very grindy if you aren't filling them with a nearby event, and are really there as a shoe-in for traditional MMO quests. I think it's pretty telling that until the most recent update, no new zones added after launch had hearts or anything like them, and I don't think anyone ever missed them either.

If things are too easy, why not try a different zone? Nothing says all Sylvari have to stay within Brisban and Knessex Hills until you join an order.
