The last comic set up a huge battle which had me stoked for today's, but I feel we missed all the action. Grandfather's eyes/nose look a little, um, melty. Not that the art or story is bad by any means, it just feels rushed. Also, who is speaking in the last panel if not the dad? I like this one because of the idea, and last week's comic was hype meter to the max, but Grace is still my favorite of the Night Light series. Grace part 2 in particular is like, gross it's so good. In any case, excited for the next Nightlight series when it eventually returns.

I'd guess the off screen voice is the mother, maybe? If so, you'd think she would have been shown somewhere, but when you've only allocated 4 strips to the story, stuff's gotta get cut I guess.
But yeah, missing the fight between Stuffed Bear and Underbed Cthulhus makes me a sad panda.

So the blanket is all ragged because it absorbed the first blow from the monster before the bear woke up.
That girl has 2 generations of magical artifacts looking out for her.
Edit: Which also means, despite what the dad said in part 2, his methods are not so different from grandad's.

I don't believe there was a fight, the blanket and bear both act as shields against the monsters.

That said, I would like some more info about this world; do the kids know?(it would seem not), what are the monsters, despite the monsters the world seems to carry on, so are only some afflicted? I usually don't mind the small windows we get into their worlds, as I feel it works well with Automata and the Eyrewood. But with this one I want to know more.

A victory, but not without cost - the blanket has rips now, and the bear appears to be down one eye.

The right eye, which is the eye that was shown glowing in the last comic.

Not showing the 'battle' is great. There's no need for that - we know how confident the dad was, and we saw the 'bear transformation'. Whatever was beneath the bed was fucked soundly with a metaphorical poker.

We can see the effects of it, too, and we can read a bittersweet victory in that, if we want to. It works really well as a completed arc.

The battle in your imagination is better than anything that could be put on the page.

So the child is being chided over something she has neither control over nor awareness of. I feel like she's going to be scarred by this.

"Well, Doctor. It all started when my mom yelled at me for ruining my blanket, even though I took good care of it. I think she tore holes in it just so she could scream at me." *sobs*

...I didn't know there was a nuanced position one could take on cocks. Always seemed like a zero-sum game to me. Is that why it's an insult? The person is transcending normal dick-positional interaction? Solving the Zeno's Paradox of Cocks, so to speak? Alas, you learn something new every day.

I think the idea is meant to be that the blanket was grandpa's means of fighting the monsters, while the father has come up with something new and improved (the bear.) I think the idea is that the bear tore up the blanket in the course of doing bear things

in the last panel grandpa is meant to be sad about the blanket, I guess?

hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

I think that he is touched that his son is still using the blanket to protect his granddaughter.

That news post really resonated with me. I've given up on a lot of forums that I once really enjoyed because of that phenomenon, boardgamegeek comes to mind easily. Make a post discussing almost any subject and sure enough you will be quickly informed why your opinion is wrong and you are a bad person for having it. It doesn't seem as prevalent on PA thank goodness but it certainly exists. I don't know that it's a fixable problem short of gradual culture change, and frankly I don't want to wait for that.

It's... frustrating. I am very reclusive by nature and short of immediate family, online is pretty much how I talk to other people. But everything feels increasingly toxic (overused word perhaps but fits here) and I end up just feeling annoyed or downright angry.

I liked that post, too--These forums are pretty good though. On the other hand, if you're a political or religious conservative go try posting in debate and discourse--even the mods are openly hostile if you don't agree with certain political and social ideas.

It's just the way it is--even the best groups get cliquish about certain things.

I'm not sure what emotion "melting face" is meant to convey.

Usually 'overwhelmed'. As in they don't know what to feel, and/or are feeling a mix of strong emotions.

I think the grandfather fought the monsters personally (see the dad in the first Nightlight fighting one with a bat...which may be the same dad as here) and his son came to rely on charmed items (the titular Nightlight) to defend the kid. Meanwhile Grace and her mother seemed to do both: utilizing the nightlight as a weapon.

The son however, used both the bear and blanket. Maybe the blanket was the nightlight used to keep him safe as a kid or something. A literal security blanket.
