SO THERE IS ANOTHER DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRE-CAUCUS TELEVISED EVENT TONIGHT, WHAT DO I DO WITH THAT?
Well, it'll be airing tonight at 9, with a likely online stream that will be added as soon as I can track it down.
WHO IS GOING TO BE THERE
Well, there's this person, Hillary Clinton, whom you may remember for her political career over the past few decades, with accomplishments including Senator of New York state and Secretary of State during the first half of the Obama administration:
Also this dude, also with a decades-long career in politics, including municipal and state positions in Vermont before making his way to DC as a congressman and senator for the state, Bernie Sanders:
[Please do not get into fights like last time over these two, per Jeffe's request]
There's also this dude, Martin O'Malley, who is best known for his time as Mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland:
No one can quite figure out why he's still running but damn if we can't admire the dude's committed to his campaign.
OKAY SO LIKE, WHAT IS THIS THING? AREN'T WE DONE WITH DEBATES YET? SERIOUSLY
Well, it's not exactly a
debate. As
CNN puts it:
The Democratic presidential hopefuls will make closing arguments to Iowa voters Monday night during a CNN town hall in Des Moines -- one week before the first-in-the-nation votes are cast at the Iowa caucuses.
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont will appear first, followed by ex-Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and then former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CNN announced Monday. Each will have 30 minutes onstage at Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium and will face questions from audience members as well as CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo.
The Iowa Democratic Party and Drake University invited the audience, which will also include some CNN guests.
OKAY FINE I'LL CHECK IT OUT. HOW LONG DOES THIS THING GO FOR I GOT MULDER AND SCULLY WEIRD FUNTIMES TO WATCH
Well, CNN is saying it's going to run till 11, so you might want to DVR X-Files if you can. Or, if you're up for some hardcore nostalgia, dig out a VCR and pop a VHS in there and enjoy the episode later in glorious 480i
NostalgiaVision. Now, you can truly relive the glory that was the 90s. For added affects, tape two pieces of cardboard to your TV to cut off the sides of the frame!
[But seriously, Jeffe and I would appreciate if we not let our negative sides get the better of us here so, yeah. Be Nice.]
EDIT: We got Livestream!

Sanders is up first
Demagogic? Really?
Edit OTOH I'm not sure how that can be asked or answered here. Numbers are not good in this type of event

Checking, not sure yet. CNN has commentary on this page, but looks like they're trying to keep the livestream behind that paywall you mentioned since they're hosting the event: http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/25/politics/democratic-town-hall-2016-live-updates/index.html

"They are a fantastic organization," says that he supports them.
Bleh, garbage, especially since they streamed their debate and had international partners.
Might be because this is separate from the scheduled debates, not sure. Either way seems skeevy just on the principal that it's the last public event like this they'll have before caucuses.
@ElJeffe can we get go/no go?
c'mooonnnnnn
more wars, maybe.
Talks about Clinton devoting her life to public service. Says he's tried to not run a negative campaign but campaign on the issues. Chastizes the republican primary, but notes "that's not a very high bar to reach" to be better than them
Now pivoting to wall street, cites his opposition to deregulation
Now pivot to Free Trade deals, TPP as well. Again cites Clinton taking time to come around to the same position.
Sanders brings up Clinton has hit on him about his Gun position, counters that in 2008 she was to the right of Obama and cites the "Annie Oakley" allegation. Then insinuates she's trying to play both sides of the gun control game by playing one type of ad in New Hampshire, but not playing them in Iowa.
Trying to keep up best I can, that said not sure if I can keep it up through to 11
Need to move to a system where people in need of mental health care can get it when they need it, not a two-month delay. Woman asking it seems to be okay/like that position.
a bit; his concern basically seems to be a fear of getting sued while still making a legal sale [seems he views there to be a loophole in the bill that allowed for this?]
Clinton is a very good person, O'Malley is a decent guy. Seems to him that the country is in crisis from inequality, climate, poverty and a broken campaign finance system. Have to get beyond the establishment and start a revolution of the people asserting we are a government of the people, not the few. That's why he's running for president.
My impression as well. Seems to do better if he can get a 1-on-1 with the voters.
