Guys, I'm already annoyed with things I can alter tonight. Can we talk about nice relaxing things? Things to help us all finish our weeks, and get paid?
Downtown SF is p. fun. Discuss.
Never been.
After April, you should take a weekend trip there and see some sites (sights? i no english gud :bzz:).

But especially not from the south; I do not feel at home or comfortable when I've visited there.
it's like 35% of the country, what are you even talking about.
Unless you've spent a couple of years traveling so you have some idea of the difference in the regions or something to underpin this?
I mean like, what have you got against:
Athens, GA
Memphis, TN
Austin, TX
Miami, FL
Raleigh, NC
New Orleans, LA
Biloxi, MI
that you can lump them all together (along with everything south of Kentucky from the mid Atlantic coast to the Mexico border) and say you don't want to sound like you're from any of them?
I mean, damn. I knew you were racist against void champs but this is quite an opinion you have.
You are kind of being like the Wondermark Seal here, spool.

I've been looked down on by a lot of people before I cultivated an accent that would get people to stop assuming I was an imbecile, but it's been a long long while since somebody just came right out and said it.
I mean
While I'm not sure I'm comfortable with everything else that's going on
You are saying "Here is a thing I did, and now credeiki is doing it and it's shitty of her"
Because she is just saying she doesn't want to be associated with that! Which you obviously don't either! That is somewhat orthogonal to people being dicks about areas of origin, I think.
I'm saying "here is a thing I did because I was abused so much that I had to do it".
and she is saying that she didn't feel comfortable while visiting as if The South is some monolith, and possesses the stereotypes that underpinned the abuse.
So I guess I am being a bit touchy. Stepping in to the conversation, it genuinely upset me to read.
So, @credeiki sorry for jumping down your throat - it rubbed me very much the wrong way.

My girlfriend crashed at my place last night. She was waiting for her Lyft when I left for work in the morning. When I got home, there was a cute note and she'd cleaned the kitchen. Including stuff that we didn't mess up when cooking dinner last night!
This is as adorable as it is deeply shameful; I'll need to step up my cleanliness game if I'm going to keep having her over.

Broke as fuck, and I need to replace my deathtrap.
But I'm sorry @spool32 , I probably am being a dick because I'm annoyed for other reasons, ie thinking about the hassle of my weekend itinerary and how little I want to interact with my in-laws.
And I am overlaying my 2 years of residence in Mt Airy, MD, which is maybe not even southern but certainly is rural and alienating and miserable, onto like the entire non-urban, non-coastal US, which is not correct. And I have felt out of place when visiting Durham, Savannah, southern VA, and uh wherever it was in TX I was for a conference, but that is partially an internal-to-me thing and not necessarily caused by any external factor.

If I end up visiting Atlanta I look forward to hearing the accents
I am a bit of a verbal chameleon. But I understand the reason folks from the South a) try to hide their accent or b) react rather badly when people basically state they would not use such a speech pattern because of reasons. Including a general dislike of the culture in sections.
Our speech and how we think about it is very very much tied to our identity as a person and home. I can understand why @credeiki wouldn't use the speech pattern. I also understand why @spool32 and those of us with say that word in your usage vocab were kind of taken aback about the later half identifying places with that speech pattern as "places she does not like or want to be."
This is one thing that is culturally complex in the US. There are breaks in the country that we unconsciously don't think about and a lot of that is built around speech.

We are cool. I am going to go eat some homemade challah which I genuinely wish I could share with you as a token of reconciliation (which is unusual as I am normally not even remotely altruistic, but I was like, damn, I wish I could give spool challah).

It doesn't taste as good as the biscuit but it also doesn't fall the fuck apart after 1-2 bites. So it depends on my mood.

It's like they are always saying "bless your heart" in a bad way whenever you ask for something.
