The only mission that was thought provoking for me was setting the weed plantation on fire with a flamethrower in FC3 and getting so high I couldn't snipe due to the ray tracing. I quite far cry until blood dragon came out because nothing else could top that.
Edit** I guess thought provoking might not be the term, but there was a moment where I was just sitting there thinking about was I was doing. In the middle of a burning weed farm, opening a guy up like a PEZ dispenser, then setting his buddy on fire because... Fuck it, bacon sizzles.
Far Cry 4 may have had sporadic ok moments, but as an overall story I couldnt have been less interested. It was a disaster, and the main character just floated through the nonsense without any semblance of being a human and not a walking gun. Which is fine if youre going for a self aware or hands off style shooter. However Far Cry maintains these immaculately motion captured scripted sequences as a kind of hook, and they remain these increasingly indulgent wastes of time. Stylistically and atmospherically they are solid, but there is just never a human thread to hold on to in a game that seems to be trying to grip you in that way
To be fair to 4 it wasnt particularly egregious in any way (except for the stoners holy shit), it just had such a feeling of "another video game story". You could have removed the story entirely and it wouldnt have been a worse experience. In fact it probably wouldve played to the strengths of the game more, which was its environments and gameplay
To be fair I don't care about the story here. Just give a a cool location to explore and neat stuff to do and I'm good.
I feel like this as well, but it would be great if I could play one game where I could genuinely not describe any characters as "obnoxious" or "nauseating"
Im not even asking for an insanely complex story or amazing dialogue, just characters that are likable, engaging and a story that makes emotional sense for human beings on the planet earth
I'd talk about the many, many problems with Far Cry 4's story, but the whole sequence leading up to "but I'm keeping the helicopter" is one of my favorite moments in gaming.
The thing I liked most about Far Cry 4's story is that it turned out your allies were worse people than the main villain. That doesn't happen often in things, and I think it was purposeful.
I'm really digging this so far. A lot of atmosphere, no towers to fuck around with, brutal combat, and I literally just made friends with a black jaguar.
So we have this game and my boyfriend just started it and is wondering what to do about the bears. There are apparently a lot of Bears and since he just started the game he's having trouble dealing with them due to lack of upgraded equipment and skills.
So any hints on how to kill or get away from bears?

I don't own the game but saw a friend play a little bit. Gotta admit that the combat feels very brutal. Quite satisfying when you crush someone's skull.

Idk what you have, but...
Throwing bait and running away works best.
Jumping off cliffs.
Climbing works, as does grappling hooks.
As does just running like hell.
He's having the biggest problem on this escort quest where the escorts are always getting attacked by a bear and he has no bait or anything else.
There's a trophy called 'Tears of Shame.' You get it for skinning a tamed animal. So I tamed a dhole, hit it with a flaming spear and waited for it to bleed out. (The things we do for trophies.)
Once it was dead I skinned it, but the trophy didn't pop. Tamed another and tried again. Nothing.
bears...as with most things...headshot with arrows to start with. if you can get 3 in him before he starts charging you, then your pretty well off, and as long as you have a beast to distract him and put more arrows into him, you should be able to finish it off with a club.
mammoths are pretty tough at the moment for me but i just got the longbow, so i think i probably could take some down now. I have a cave lion as a pet and he works well, but i want a sabretooth as soon as i can get it.

I got it for skinning a white wolf. So try a rare or uncommon animal. Might also need to be one you've used in combat. Not sure.

I got most of the way through FC4 and then gave up on it. At the end of the day, it suffers from the same issue as the AC series: more of the same, but still the same. Even with the wingsuit, FC4 wasn't nearly different enough to feel like much of a different game; it was more like FC 3.2 than a full sequel, an expansion instead of a whole new thing. And it's "crazy" characters just felt tired and obnoxious at this point, instead of fitting a theme in the story.
I don't think Blood Dragon helped FC4 at all, either. The former was a compact, enjoyable, and unique game, which practically threw skills and money at you so your upgrades kept pace with advancing through the game. FC4 drags that experience out a long while, and doesn't really benefit for it; aside from having a larger map to play on, FC4 just did not feel like it had more content than even Blood Dragon, it just spread that content out a LOT thinner.
The Udam only resorted to cannibalism due to disease and over hunting in the North. While the Izilia seem to be caught up in a religious panic over what they interpret as a coming apocalypse. The Wenja are trying to survive, but will survive at any cost.
Do i need to do every one of the Tribal Clash events? I tried to do the Uldam boss guy but was stopped by the poison gas and I dont even have that quest yet.

Did you capture the fort? Is there a quest from Sayla in the NW corner of the map?

I'm not sure if this is the
fort your talking about. I did some questlines, and im now at the one that tells me to fight the leader of the udam. Its a camp on top of a plateau in the North East area of the map.

You've got a lot of ways to kill furry creatures in this game. I'd hold off on doing side stuff until he's upgraded his weapons/animals.

It went from "buy it cheap" to "probably never"
It is a huge part of it, yes
Combined with all the other shortcomings it seems to have, it kinda kills it
To each their own, but damn if that isn't the wierdest thing I've heard in a while. Also - I think Mirror's Edge might be right for you.

How can you tell the side stuff from the main stuff. He really wants to enjoy the game, but feels lost and says the game offers him no direction.

When I do a shard takedown, do those deaths count for the shard trophy? This platinum seems very doable and I'm going for it.
