PAX EAST-Parking -Overnight/Weekend locations Help!

WellywokzWellywokz Registered User regular
Gonna be Staying at a Hotel within walking distance to Pax East this year.
Seems like Westin waterfront or Seaport. Thurs-Sun are the days
I'm out of state and will be soloing this year.

I have been searching for the best rates and getting a hard time find the pros and cons
I would like to find a place that can go in and out.
But can just do just park over the weekend instead for cheaper.
I don't know if South Lot will have Overnight parking for the weekend.

Thank you

The best suggestion you'll find is to park at one of the outer MBTA stops (depending on where you are coming from Wonderland in revere or braintree, or others) where you'll typically pay much less than inside boston. The negative is your car isn't right there, but you probably won't be driving much once PAX starts anyway.

Yeah, a lot of the cheap parking has gone away. GhostDan is correct that parking somewhere like Alewife can be very cheap, just a pain as you have to go retrieve your car at the end of it, rather than having it easily available.

I typically arrive on Thursday morning/afternoon and leave late Sunday afternoon. I always park at 75 State Street Parking. It runs about $100 for duration and it's pretty secure.

I've used the garage at Post Office Square a few times. The rates are gonna be more than the T stations but should be a bit closer than some of them. http://www.posquare.com/rates-hours/

This might be helpful. If you go to the Downtown Crossing stop (really cool - it's inside an old building) you can go one stop and transfer to the silver line which goes right to the convention center (it's actually a bus, but hey). To be completely honest, walking will probably be faster around "rush time" for commuting to the convention center. I've walked to that stop many times and it's only about 20 minutes. I mean a one mile walk is nothing... until your feet turn into bricks from standing all day when you aren't used to it! But your choice.

I'm going to carry a Japanese style futon with me as lots people posting on Room sharing sections have limited bedding/amenities. Thank you for the some feedback!
I personally don't mind the cost of parking, I already walk/stand as I cook at a Casino and want to limit that for my vacation. lol

I don't know there's a list focused only on parking, but if you go to the MBTA's website and each station has its own page with information about parking, including its average weekday availability and costs. The closer you get into the city, the fewer options there are with parking. IMO your best bets are either Alewife (red line) or Woodland (D branch of the green line). I'd go with Woodland over Riverside because Woodland has a cheaper overnight rate.

This is the list of MBTA lots that allow overnight parking.

Given the atrocious commuter rail schedules on the weekend (for getting back to your car on Sunday), I recommend choosing one of the Subway stops to park at. If you are arriving Friday morning, keep in mind that many of them fill to capacity at morning rush, so you will need to beat said rush or pick a lot that typically has spaces available (typical weekday availability is also on said site).

If anyone is driving in from out of town and just looking for a place to stash and leave the car for the whole weekend - and getting around town on the T during PAX itself - you might want to consider one of the airport shuttle lots outside of town. Generally they have free shuttles in and out and the prices are way lower than parking in the city. Here's an example, but there's a lot more than just this one:

Happily on Sabbatical. Don't bug me.

For the T station parking, do they allow multiple day parking or is there a risk of getting towed if I leave my car there Thursday-Sunday?

You should be fine parking there. I've parked in the Quincy Adams garage for a whole week while I flew across country, and had no issues.

    Yep, most allow multi-day.

If you're planning on parking at Alewife at the end of the red line, be aware that they will be doing construction on the weekend of PAX, so there will be shuttle bus service from the Harvard Square stop (four stops from the end) to Alewife. You'll still be able to get to Alewife, but it will take longer than when there is no construction.

I've used the Woodland stop parking each of the past few years without a problem, parking from Thursday morning to Sunday night. A long ride though.

Download a parking app like ParkingPanda or SpotHero, find a referral code on like RetailMeNot or google it and you can usually get like $15-20 off 1st booking. It is just an app that lets you book with parking garages, but the rates you get in the app can be ridiculously cheaper than if you were to pay the parking garage directly. I believe since all the prices off nearby garages show up on a map they have to compete with eachother on the app. On sundays park at any of the hundreds of parking meters in South Boston, downtown etc, they are free to park, so you could park after 8PM on saturday at a meter and just leave it all night into sunday.

As far as I know, there haven't been any coupons or discounts for parking in the area near the BCEC.

My friend's a gold/diamond/platinum for almost every hotel imaginable. And even he doesn't get discounts on parking in general

I'll be at the Seaport Hotel and im debating whether or not to do the hotel overnight self-parking which is $36 per night or theres that lot next to the garage. Anybody know if it would be cheaper to park my car there for the duration of the event and how much that would cost compared to hotel garage parking?.

I think its probably best to just leave my car at the westin where i'm staying it. I have the piece of mind of knowing it where it is than leaving it somewhere else be it free street parking or a garage far away. If something where to happen it I wouldn't know until I got back to it at the end of the convention. I always end up driving and will be splitting the cost with two other people.

Overnight hotel and wedding guests: self park - $36.00
(includes unlimited exit and entry privileges).

I'm staying at the Seaport Hotel. Using your hotel Key card allows this.

I debated and though it is good for storage if I need to store a costly item at the event. Ask your Hotel if they give discount or better privilege?

  • RedK232RedK232 Registered User regular
It doesnt hurt to ask. Im gonna park at the hotel fri/sat then figure something out sunday morning. Im hoping they do some type of discount if u say that u are here for a event.
