Look, jacob, I barely have the mental capacity and attention span to keep from playing movies at 1.5 speed

I just don't know how I feel about longform fiction in general anymore

I've had one (1) thing go wrong, total, across the 6 desktops, laptops, and HTPCs that I've upgraded to Windows 10. That thing was nVidia's fault, and the difficulty in solving it was a function of my own ignorance of desktop troubleshooting in the modern era rather than anything to do with Windows.

Win10 is excellent. You shouldn't wait.

I like grit, I like love and death, I'm tired of irony. ... A lot of good fiction is sentimental. ... The novelist who refuses sentiment refuses the full spectrum of human behavior, and then he just dries up. ... I would rather give full vent to all human loves and disappointments, and take a chance on being corny, than die a smartass.

I would describe Win10 as being... mostly functional. But there's also a real burden of opt-out security/privacy options (many of which cannot be altered without command-line access to either the registry or various hidden system menus if you do not own the Pro edition).

I've watch Cortana die on me multiple times (or simply get stuck archiving the hard drive and thus be unable to search for simple things like notepad or command prompt), I've had the taskbar go totally unresponsive more than a few times, and compared with Win7 where, when something hangs, I can alt-tab to the task manager and close it, in Win10 you also lose mouse functionality, so have fun learning all the keyboard shortcuts (tab to move between sections, alt+e to end a task), assuming you can actually get task manager into focus.

The actual ideas behind it are generally pretty cool, security-wise, but the app environment isn't quite caught up yet, and MS still has a lot of work to do on actually informing consumers on what their new OS is doing.

Oh, and you'll have to get a special edition of Minecraft that is incompatible with half of the old stuff, because Reasons.

...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

If that was it, then I wouldn't have a problem!

But I've heard a number of accounts of problems with file transfers while upgrading (didn't someone here lose a significant portion of their files?), weird compatibility issues with software and hardware, stuff like that. More than just one or two stories.

*shrug* My computer works pretty well right now, might as well wait for a bit.
