Actually sort of the Philippines also, as Assistant Secretary of the Navy TR cabled Commodore George Dewey (commander of the US Asiatic Squadron) ordering him to go to war footing and prepare to steam to Manila Bay and destroy the Spanish fleet there something like 10 days before war was officially declared. Meaning the US fleet arrived in Manila Bay before the Spanish Fleet really had time to get itself ready for war. Don't know how much difference it really would have made, but that did happen.

He was a huge (yuge?) proponent of naval imperialism, yeah. I like TR a lot, probably one of my top five favorite presidents, but the man was an imperialist through and through.
