I kinda want to believe that...and then I see Logan and I don't know. Man, that was a really good movie. I'm not saying MoS2 should be Logan, but hey there can be room for a lot of different takes you know? You don't have to go full Batman and Robin campy story but don't say people are tired of "bleak" super hero movies.
Collider reports Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman, Kick-Ass) is in talks to direct Man of Steel 2
Matthew Vaughn's comments on Superman (in 2010) and dark superhero movies (in 2015): I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious ‘The Dark Knight’ version, Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”
“People want fun and escapism at the moment. Look at the success of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I think Nolan kick-started a very dark, bleak style of superhero escapism, and I think people have had enough of it.”
Isn't that basically the same thing Millar said about both movies? (And the reason that Millar has been writing a lot more upbeat comics lately (ie Starlight))

matthew vaughn has made some very good movies (namely, stardust), but he also made x-men: first class, which was pretty bland, and bland in a way that doesn't give me a ton of hope that he's going to wrest control of superman from zack snyder and david goyer and suddenly fix everything

First Class has the biggest drop off of quality from first watch to rewatch of any movie I can think of.

I doubt he would sign on if they were gonna go with the same tone and style they have been though
He's said how he feels about that direction multiple times and is not a fan at all
Dude's an established, successful director so it ain't like he would need to take MoS 2 to make his name

I personally think it's more of a lateral move than an improvement. But granted, I don't like Matthew Vaughn or hate the DC movies as much as most others.
Vaughn has made 4 movies I like a whole bunch and one I don't mind but am not in love with
(Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, Stardust and Kingsman)
(First Class)

I really did not like Stardust the movie. And it's not just "urff derff the book was better" type of stuff. Some character's personalities and motivations changed a great deal and a lot of little things added up to a weaker story.

Stardust bored me to tears
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I bet there was a lot of studio interference with First Class. The first half was really strong but it was clear that someone was trying to twist things so the second half matches up with X1. Because it just made no sense to have Xavier crippled and Magneto turned into a villain so early. They could have had another movie or two of Xavier and Magneto still being allies before their relationship deteriorated and they became adversaries.
Although, come to think of it, that might be a point against Matthew Vaughn taking over with MoS 2 since there will undoubtedly be a lot of interference from WB so even if he has a great idea, he'll be forced to do stupid shit by WB.
Stardust was average to me. Kick Ass on the other hand I quite liked.
I don't know, my favorite Superman stories are from the MoS/Byrne era. And on TV, JL Season 2 > Superman the Animated Series when it came to show how cool Superman stories. I don't see that transitioning to film easily.
If nothing else, Vaughn can stage a much better action scene than Snyder. I don't think they can save this incarnation of Superman for me, though. Well's been poisoned.

first class has some very good bits but it also introduces a black mutant with the power to survive anything and then kills him in literally his first fight and also it's mostly boring and full of characters that are there because a) they hadn't been used before and b) they also weren't popular enough for someone to go, "hold on....let's save this character for a movie people might care about"
and also it wastes january jones, who clearly has more range than anyone has given her credit for, as evidenced by last man on earth

Lets not forget about making Charles Xavier completely & utterly shallow to the point of body shaming his adopted sister.

But yes, the books is loads better
But Layer Cake is go damn good and I quite like Stardust (yes, book is better, but Gaiman himself has explained why some changes were made).
The book is my least favorite Gaiman book, I think

But otherwise I like it a bunch
I hope they did that look on purpose to make him a pickup artist wearing a fedora
Annnnnnd @Rorshach Kringle, I know, I know...
of course you love the character you played on smash hit television show gotham
Magneto: Globetrotting Nazi Hunter is still fantastic though.

I kinda liked the film, Wanted.
