Well, I just want to make sure Philo can get up there without stumbling over the table, but I also don't want to leave you hanging. If you think you can handle the first wave, I can take one more step back so Philo can fill in. It sounds like you are okay with that? @Aegis

Edit: Okay, I adjusted my position so that Dural is up front alone for now, but Philo has room to engage.

The first hobgoblin soldier reels back from Ay's swift assault, even as Ay darts away again this Hob moves to the back of the line, drawing his bow and taking aim while snarling at his two of his companions to move forward to the attack, as they move he looses an arrow towards Salazar! Ouch!

The two Hobs charge forwards and, as a unit, direct their attacks towards Dural striving to get past his defenses with their swords! To no avail, the Dwarf is too well protected.

The fourth Hobgoblin flips over the table he's behind, using it as cover as he too fires an arrow at the boastful Tiefling. It too lands! Double Ouch!

@evilthecat is up!, @Aegis is on deck!

Salazar attempts to duck and dive around the arrows, alas, to no avail, glancing shots cut up his robes and blood runs down his thigh.
He darts past Ay, putting someone substantially more brutish between himself and the hobgoblins.

He looks menacingly at the hobgoblin archers; "TRY THIS! Mordekainen's magic wall!"

    *POOF*
A brick wall magically appears in front of Salazar which he takes cover behind!
He then hurls a flaming Orb at the bugbear!
Alas, it harmlessly sails past the bugbear and chars the wall behind the creature.

Dural smirks as the Hobgoblins approach, raising Findul up in front of him just as their strikes rain down, eliciting a satisfying pair of loud thunks in the process. When his return swing similarly fails to connect, the Dwarf switches gears and bangs on Findul with his Hammer. "The Watchful Eye is upon you, Ay!" He yells as a pale, shimmering white field coalesces around him, "Your dance will be protected this day!"

Bonus Action: Shield of Faith on Ay. Ay has +2 AC for 10 minutes or until my Concentration is broken.
    Action: Attack Hobgoblin 2.

Philo, concluding that maneuverability is the better part of strategy, and that open terrain is the better part of maneuverability, steps up to the plate, gathers his strength, and flips the table on them bastards.

Step to I1 and make an Athletics check to flip the table. On a success, I want to shove it and rotate it so that it covers the squares F2 and G2, limiting the hobgoblins' mobility. And, if the DM allows it, I want to use it like a goblin-plow and shove the both of them into the far wall. Depending on how that all works out, I may also pop my Action Surge to do something else. But one thing at a time.
Geth, roll 1d20+5 for FLIP THE TABLE!

    FLIP THE TABLE!:

@Mongrel Idiot - This plan is fantastic and I want to support it!

Stage 1 is fine! Consider the table flipped and rotated and Philo is now in F1.

I'm not sure how to work the second part though...hmm... I would guess you'd need one hell of an Athletics check to have the strength to push two fully grown Hob's 15-20'? Like a Nat 20, or nothing...

Fake Edit: OH! OK...here's what we'll do. Opposed Athletics checks to move the table per 5' square. You get a roll to push, the Hobs get a roll (with Advantage for there being two of them) to oppose your pushing. Cool?

Wouldn't an aggressive dwarf banging his shield right in front of the hobgoblins distract them and give them disadvantage to a table suddenly plowing them towards the wall, hence canceling their advantage? ;) j/k

If it was said dwarf's turn between Philo's and the Hob's and an action was spent to make it happen...maybe. :)

@Mongrel Idiot - Have Philo give me three separate Athletics checks, and I'll have Hob's oppose them, and then we'll see how far you manage to shove them and the table.

Also realize that I no longer just have to move the tokens in maptools...now I need to go back and redraw the whole dang map again...and that's on you. :)

Digging deep, Philo braces his shoulder against the table and charges!
Oh man, hadn't thought about aving to redraw the map. I'm history's greatest monster. :)

Does this part require my Action Surge, or do I still have that in my pocket for later if need be? Anyway, here goes!

Geth, roll 1d20+5 for Athletics 1
Geth, roll 1d20+5 for Athletics 2

Philo's clever maneuver with the table is stopped short as the Hobgoblins predict the move, and quickly reposition themselves to brace against the table-top, stopping Philo's push short!

However, it does require on the Hob's to take his attention away from Dural, who see an opening...

Nice try! But alas Geth gave you poor rolls on your first check and gave me one terrible roll and one great roll. The table does not move. You still have your Action Surge if you want to use it.

HOWEVER! Hob3 has to move from G4 to F3 to resist the table pushing...opening himself up to an Opportunity attack from Dural, and if Ay has reach on his quarterstaff, then him too!

Actually...I'll just take the Bugbear's action now...

The brutish Bugbear roars climbs the table before of him in his lust to get at warm human flesh. He kicks aside the plate of fish and mushrooms from atop the table and braces himself bring down his wickedly spiked Morningstar atop Philo's head!

Bugbear climbs on top of the table to E1, and attacks Philo! Luckily for Philo, the brute's swing goes wide.

Barran rushes past Ay, following the howling Hobgoblins as Philo shoves them all the way across the room and into the wall. While the creatures struggle against the table holding them against the wall, the Halfling whips out his rapier and leaps up onto the still-upright table next to them. His feet land squarely in a wooden bowl of cave mushrooms in brine and on a previously-untouched trout, sending Barran skidding down the rest of the table, flailing his sword in an attempt to regain his balance and completely missing any kind of target. The rogue thumps into the wall and topples off the table before landing in the corner in a puddle of mushrooms, though he manages to turn it into an acrobatic tumble and avoids landing on his own blade.

    "Nobody saw that."

If I'm reading the descriptions of everything right, it looks like Philo's taken the table and run with it to F5, pinning the Hobs against the wall at F6 and G6? I'm going to assume those Hobs are Restrained rather than Grappled, as being pinned by a table is different from being held down by somebody (the difference being whether attacks against them have advantage and their own attacks have disadvantage), but you can rule otherwise and just take the first attack die rolled. I added the potential "cover?" to their descriptions because I guess the table that's holding them down might block attacks coming from that direction.

    In either case, Barran will:
    a) Take Disengage as his Cunning action
    b) Move from I3 to H6 (15ft) passing through Ay because Halflings have no concept of personal space and hopping up on the table
    c) take a stab at the Hobgoblin that was shoved to G6 with his rapier (with bonus Sneak Attack damage), avoiding potential cover since it's coming from the side
    d) Hop down into the corner at I6, nimbly posed to dodge anything that comes his way

Stat Block & Map as at the End of Turn One.

The Hobs behind the table are not hampered in any way....just now their movement has been restricted by being hemmed in by tables.

EDIT: UNLESS! Philo is continuing to push against the table making it hard for Hob 2 & 3 to move freely. Please advise.

Feeling inspired by the dwarf's battle chant, and seeing the heavily wounded hobgoblin trying to stay in the fight by shooting arrows, Ay decides taking care of him is important. With Philo opening up a path, Ay darts in. As he round the end of the row of tables, he leaps forward, the end of his staff crashing into the chest of a Hobgoblin on the way to his target. His speed and momentum carrying through, the staff pierces the hobgoblins crude armor and flesh, driving him into a wall. Ay pushes off further, sending the creature to the ground in a pool of blood and springing himself towards the one taking shots. It dodges his flying kick, but using his staff to steady himself, Ay swings back around with a second kick, that finds home on the hobgoblins throat, sending him to the ground as well.

Feeling confident from his successful onslaught, Ay turns to the bugbear. His confidence falters a bit at the sight of the beast, and he makes his way back to his more heavily armored companions, placing himself to help Philo's hold on the other two hobgoblins.

Move: D4, straight to avoid the Bugbear.
    Action: Attack QStaff Hob4.
Minor: Flurry of Blows, First attack on Hob1, Second attack on Hob1 if alive, Hob4 if Hob1 is dead, Move + Bugbear if Hob1/4 are dead. Attempt knock prone (DC 13 Dex ST) on any Flurry of Blow hits.
Move: G4, avoiding anything I haven't attacked and no AOO from others due to Mobile Feat.

Geth, roll 1d20+5 for Attack QStaff Hob4
Geth, roll 1d8+3 for Damage QStaff Hob4
    Geth, roll 1d20+5 for Attack Unarmed1 Hob1

    Bugbear(E2) - AC:16, HP:27, Brute
    Barran (I6)- AC:16, HP: 19/27, Spells:-/2

    @Steelhawk

    Solid round.
Question: I notice you gave Hob2-4 +2 AC from Half-Cover. Does that apply to Melee attacks? I assume if I move into Melee with a clear LoS, that it negates the +2? In this case it didn't matter as I had really good rolls, but curious for the future.
Second Question: Why do Hob2/3 have 18+2, and Hob1/4 has 16(+2)? Is that a typo, or is there something different about them?

    Attack QStaff Hob4:
    1d20+5 23 [1d20=18]
    Damage QStaff Hob4:
    1d8+3 11 [1d8=8]
    Attack Unarmed1 Hob1:
    1d20+5 16 [1d20=11]
    Damage Unarmed1 Hob1:
    1d4+3 7 [1d4=4]
    Attack Unarmed2 Remaining:

    Damage Unarmed2 Remaining:

The Hob's AC of 18 includes a shield. When using their bows the shields are not being used, therefore I dropped the AC to 16. Ain't I nice? Then when behind half-cover the Hob's get a +2 AC bonus, hence the added +2 to the stat block. So hob 2 & 3, still holding their shields have 18 AC, +2 from the covering table, while Hob 4 is using his bow so his AC is 16 +2 from his table.

The cover bonus would apply if you were melee-ing over/through the table...but if you got around the table or over it or whatever when you can negate that AC bonus. In this case, Ay got around the table he was using as cover.

I'll post the move for the remaining Hob's later today when I have more time.

Thanks, Steelhawk. I didn't even think about the shields. That makes sense.

Sensing their peril, the remaining two Hob's scramble over the confining table to the west and reform their battle line, this time in proximity to the Bugbear for extra muscle. Then, together, they lash out at Philo! Both strikes fail to get past Philo's defenses.

    Actions:
Both hobs climb over the barricade through E6 (costs double movement) and around the tables to E3 & E4.

Both Hobs attack Philo with their Martial Advantage

"Good job, Tall One!" the Dwarf yells, encouragingly, as Philo does miraculously things with that table. With the hobgoblins otherwise engaged, Dural turns his attention to the Bugbear, moving foward and swinging his hammer that unfortunately catches the table the creature's using for cover, doing nothing more than generating splinters.

Move: To F3 next to the Bugbear.

Roaring in defiance of the Dwarf's attack, the Bugbear leaps down from the tabletop he's on and swings mightily at Dural! Confused about the height of Dwarves vs Humans, the Bugbears horizontal swipe goes right over the Paladin's head.

The poor lone goblin is still struggling to free himself from his bonds. Somehow, the poor bastard ended up tangled with one leg between his two arms the time he gave it a go...

Yeah, I won't lie. That is one thing I miss about 4E: you'd regularly hit with a 7 or 8. Mind you, I understand with less healing and bigger hits in this game you don't want to be hit a lot, but it definitely made things go quicker, for better or worse.

@Steelhawk Did the goblin break free from his bindings? If so, what did he do?

@am0n - just finished editing my post. He's fleeing the room and is in M3

I was just thinking that (despite nobody hitting this round at all) that fights in 5e are a LOT faster, and I kinda like that. Remember, most of the reason we're missing is that we're rolling a lot of 2's and 4's....not 10's and 11's.
