I need a weekend trip out of the Baltimore area for next week

Holy mother of God against all odds my wife and I have a weekend off together. This doesn't often happen and we'd like to make the most of it. We live in the DMV area and are trying to figure out what we're gonna do. We love (vegetarian friendly) food, animals, video games, history, museums, movies, stories, and weird shit. Things we probably won't do:
  • NYC. Due to the ongoing heat wave, walking around Manhattan isn't especially appealing.
  • On that note, pretty much anything else that involves being outside a lot.
  • The Alamo Drafthouse in VA. They're only showing Suicide Squad that Saturday.
  • Canada. One of us doesn't have a passport >>

We'd probably leave Saturday morning and get back Sunday afternoon so she can get to a Sunday night work meeting. We're open to any suggestions.

Have you gone to Falling Water? That's on my list for a random weekend.

What is this I don't even.

You vetoed outside, but harper's ferry for a river float could still keep you cool and is fun, also.

I guess rehoboth beach is out if you dont want to be outside. But I always tried to hit the coast when I wanted to get away.

I hear the national harbor is great and my parents now use it as their weekend getaway, I've not been.

I'm a big fan of Annapolis. Catch a sail boat, or do a Chesapeake day cruise. Stay in a nice B&B and hotel for an evening eat some really good food. Next week is crab fest (although that is not vegetarian friendly).

If that's a little to close to Baltimore and the DMV. There is of course the Eastern Shore.

Iruka: Rehoboth beach is a nice beach for just getting away. It's way better than it's Ocean City neighbor.

Also I would leave Friday night. I hate driving around Baltimore and over the bridges to more interesting places during the day.

    Annapolis is beautiful.

National Harbor is cool if you want to do some decent-restaurant type stuff, but I have no idea about their vegetarian friendliness. The Gaylord is a swanky hotel - really fun at Christmas time. A friend-of-a-friend owns a single-source chocolate store at the Harbor, and the candy is amazing. There's usually free concerts or movies down by water there - looks like it's the Air Force Band this Saturday, and they're a fun group to listen to.

My wife literally works in Annapolis so that's out. She also burns incredibly easy even with sunscreen so no lazy floating down the river in the sun.

National Harbor seems more our speed. Nice hotel, restaurant, and a show could be pretty nice.

If you both do this, Old Town Alexandria and the Mall are a quick trip away too

The Mall might be better since most of your time would be spent in museums

We've been to the national mall at least a dozen times. Alexandria could be neat though.

I'm not sure Alexandria merits more than a nice dinner. If you're looking for a fancier scene for that, maybe cruise down to Williamsburg or something? Nice little town feeling with some historic reenactment stuff.

Old Town Alexandria's a nice place to walk around; there are some nice shops and stuff, and there's an art center near the waterfront (old torpedo factory) that occasionally has interesting things going on, but I wouldn't recommend it for its scintillating nightlife.

On the other hand, it is reachable by water taxi from National Harbor, so ...

I lived in Old Town Alexandria. It's very cozy to walk around and have a nice dinner but not sure if it's worth an entire weekend.

My 3 suggestions are all less than 3 hours drive from Baltimore:

    Bethany Beach, DE
    St. Michaels, MD
    Chincoteague, VA

i live in a country with a batshit crazy president and no, english is not my first language

Perhaps a long weekend in Edgewood.
