The temple was not designed with fusions in mind. It was just designed to make rooms for gems, and when a fusion requests entrance, it sees just one gem, and constructs an appropriate room for them.

Likewise
they have so little need to be both fused and in a room inside that it's not a thing they have to worry about frequently, especially compared to everything else

Is sardonyx' "bonus power" her extra articulation? And I kinda figured that the windmill yo-yo trick was the bonus power for smokey. I mean, that yo-yo is one of their best weapons.

it's a shame this episode all but confirms we won't be getting more sugilite
I mean, it's not like there's a lot there to get
but knowing she can't just pop up whenever like the other fusions is a shame

Well, Sugilite is the worst fusion.

Garnet's long excited scream + all the different sound effects whenever something was thrown off camera definitely made this one of my favorite episodes

On the other hand, they were willing to pay the money needed to use her lines just for the sake of a joke. They may be able to get her more often than never.

We haven't seen Garnet's, Ruby's or Sapphire's rooms yet.
I really like how you can tell who's personality is shining more in a fusion at pretty much any point.
I feel like Pearl-half was running Sardonyx up until the Amethyst-half of Smokey started having a melt down as Amethyst (usually quietly) does when Pearl starts nitpicking her. At that point, Garnet-half stepped in and was all "shit, we done fucked up! They wanted to surprise us with this cool thing they just learned and are exploring and we totally treated them like the condescending parent of a kid who just learned how to jump rope."

i dunno, I feel like this episode more than others displayed that fusions really have their own personality, rather than say, two people sharing one microphone.
The exception to this seems to be Stevonnie, where the two sides seem more distinct 'to the point where they refer to themselves as 'we' and often speak to each of their halves aloud through the same mouth
That was a funny episode. Easily top five funniest episode. I kind of get the sense:
The Steven Universe team liked the VA for Smokey Quartz enough to want to get a chance to work with her again in a more extended sequence. And I don't mind, cause she's pretty great.
Also Garnet's tiny scream at seeing Smokey Quartz is the bessssssssst.
Also I guess I was totally wrong about Fusions not having their own real distinct separate identities.
I really like the way the fusion shows the mixed personality traits.
Garnet is so well balanced, because Ruby and Sapphire offset each other so perfectly. the two of them really are perfect for each other.
Same reason why Opal is so cool, albeit she disappears easily because Amethyst and Pearl have such a hard time getting along for more than 5 minutes.
With Sugilite, Amethyst's self-loathing and recklessness mixes badly with Ruby's temper, and they get off balance.
And of course, with Sardonyx, Pearl's conceit and Garnet's confidence makes her so over the top full of herself, but she gets away with it because she's so charming.

Makes sense when you think about it
The fusion wouldn't be as complete (for lack of a better term) without another gem in the process

Yeah but Opal also had that issue in giant woman, and so did malachite now that I think about it? So I guess it could actually be an indicator that both sides aren't really as synched as they could be?

I think those are just two sides of the same coin.
all the fusions have had moments where they start to sound disconnected and more in one or the others voice. It's a wavelength.

Steven and Amythest are both really insecure. Its a running them that a fusion magnifies both common strengths and weaknesses.
While Smoky can be fun and care free, once things got a little serious the self doubt took over.
Also (speculation)
Any one else think well see some drama as both Connie and Amethyst want to fuse with Steven to fight?
Seems like a nice lesson in learning you can't always please everyone and it's not okay to be jealous when your friends hang out with others.

My fav joke was "Footage Courtesy of Cartoon Network"
Before I realized that this was a meta jokes episode, my brain was just melting at that.

Holy shit! There's a trailer for the upcoming new episodes, and one of the clips is
Stevonnie training with Holopearl.
