This is a tough promotion. I'm glad all the money is going to Hill-dawg, but I'm torn between which to buy. On the one hand, I want Hillary to win this and every other vote forever. On the other, the plays I could make with a set of Trump cards...
Nowcast polls are statistically relevant and interesting, provided you know what they are and they are placed in proper context.
Honestly asking here-relevant to what? I just don't see it. I find my statistical relevancy of eating a ham sandwich today a bit more interesting. It changes so frequently that it feels sometimes every other post is one.
It shows the state of the race at any given moment and helps provide context on the effect of recent events.
Hillary having >95% chance shows that she had a massive convention boost, for example. That's something we can't really see as much in Polls-Only (which has a heavier focus on long term trends) or Polls-Plus (which not only has a heavier focus on long term trends, but also includes other factors that reduces the effect of poll swings, including one that directly penalized Hillary for the convention to counteract the bump). And then we can see the bump fade--but possibly not going quite back down to pre-convention levels, because Trump has had a few other controversies in the meantime that might create a longer term effect. The other two methods will smooth that all out and we can't see those short term effects.
It may not correspond to the final outcome as well, but it's not meant to.

Every time I've personally posted the nowcast, it was with the caveat "I know it doesn't mean anything." Seeing Trump's chances go down as low as 3.6%, even knowing how temporary a dip it would be, was cool. I honestly didn't pay much attention to it when it was showing Trump as having the higher chance, because the thread spoke endlessly of the convention boost both before it happened and while it was happening.

I guess I'm just kind of saying that we've seen where they've landed post-convention bounce and largely the area they've settled in and will likely stay around, barring any WTF bombs we can all rest easy until October that they'll likely stay within 20% of where they are now. Which means Clinton has a healthy lead and holding.
You know, I have a feeling you are not seeing a "ground" campaign from the Trip side is because he is straight up broke and running on GOP fumes... but no one wants to say that.

I saw a Trumpence lawn sign today. On a yard with a 'prayer is America's only hope' and a blue 'it's happening' sign which may or may not be related to Ron Paul or the End Times.
The really odd thing is it's in a pretty swank Dallas neighborhood and is the only one. It's also really low key energy. It looks more like a yard sign for a realtor.
There's a house in Plano I would happen to drive by from time to time about a year ago with a small, simple, white yard sign that just said "FIGHT SOCIALISM" in black letters. I haven't found an excuse to swing by that neighborhood since, but I'm reeeeeally curious to see what signs have joined it.
My favorite yard sign story is this rural property I would always pass on my way to visit my parents in Houston. It had a "McCain/Palin" sign that was notable for two reasons: 1) it was enormous, billboard-sized almost. 2) It was at *least* 2012, if not later.

I think he's afraid to look like a competent politician, honestly. If he does things by the book, he'd have people wondering if he's really such an outsider candidate after all.
That and it costs money to have a ground game, or to do ad buys. And he's already got literally millions of dollars in free advertising coming in. Plus PACs that buy stuff for him.

You could go 100 miles without finding a functional indoor toilet, but you couldn't go 100 yards without seeing a Romney 2012 sign.

He could buy the building with campaign funds and then lease it to himself for a nominal fee. He could then pay himself from his campaign to "renovate" the building for the campaign purposes. Using Trump construction and real estate he would gain a 6% commission when he purchased the building and make a 20% markup on the renovation, and with a clever lease agreement he would be paying himself for the privilege of paying himself. Between him paying himself, construction profits, the depreciation and the real estate commission. That would be enough to offset most of the price of the building when he sold "less valuable" property back to himself at "market value."

The new Obama-era conventional wisdom is campaign signs indicate wasted time and opportunity by a campaign more than actual levels of support. Instead of taking a sign it'd be better if they made 10 calls and its a cost in time and effort for the campaign to distribute them.
In this campaign I think Trump's lack of signs is his efforts don't even reach that level

It's a whole lot of inglorious low level work; you and your team will bust your ass, and CNN isn't going to be dedicating it's afternoon segment to your great ground game efforts in return. It's easier, much more self-aggrandizing and probably far more convenient for Trump to just do the clownshoes thing and sit around on a news network set for most of a week (the trade-off being that sitting around on network sets will not actually win you an election).

I haven't seen a lot of presidential candidate signs but jesus there are tons of local election signs for commissioners, education superintendents, appraisers, etc. It's a visual blight when driving they go overboard on all the sidewalks and curbs.

I honestly didn't pay much attention to it when it was showing Trump as having the higher chance, because the thread spoke endlessly of the convention boost both before it happened and while it was happening.

My favorite yard sign story is this rural property I would always pass on my way to visit my parents in Houston. It had a "McCain/Palin" sign that was notable for two reasons: 1) it was enormous, billboard-sized almost. 2) It was at *least* 2012, if not later.
Not really. Clinton/Clinton Adjacent interests get it either way. I laughed when I saw that.

I think he's afraid to look like a competent politician, honestly. If he does things by the book, he'd have people wondering if he's really such an outsider candidate after all.
That and it costs money to have a ground game, or to do ad buys. And he's already got literally millions of dollars in free advertising coming in. Plus PACs that buy stuff for him.
...Trump can pocket the money his campaign has left over when it's done right? I mean, he's already funneling loads of it into his various properties and such, but when November is wrapped up I can totally see him just grabbing a big old sack of donations and walking away.
At least with a sign you can take those down fairly easily. Bumper stickers are even worse. Unless somebody is one of those weirdos who trades in their car for something newer every three years, it seems like a ridiculous level of commitment for something so transient.
I've driven the same make and model car since I was 16, and I plan on driving it until the axles fall off. Having a fading KERRY/EDWARDS '04 sticker stuck on the back until the end of time just seems like it would be embarrassing.
Technically he can do just about anything with it except personal use.
Trumps gotta Trump, though, so he is going to find an incredibly unethical, almost certainly illegal way to steal the money and make it not worth people's trouble to fight him legally to get it back.
Yeah bumper stickers are something I've never trucked in. Like just this year I put mariner stickers on my car and I've been a fan of the team my entire life.

In 2012 on my way to work I was behind a brand new Porsche Panamera with a Herman Cain bumper sticker on it. This was about 2 weeks after he flamed out. I was torn between laughter and rage.
We went up there again this year. Number of Trump 2016 signs we saw: zero.

The new Obama-era conventional wisdom is campaign signs indicate wasted time and opportunity by a campaign more than actual levels of support. Instead of taking a sign it'd be better if they made 10 calls and its a cost in time and effort for the campaign to distribute them.
In this campaign I think Trump's lack of signs is his efforts don't even reach that level

He is definitely low on funds; the RNC basically had to improvise together his fundraising platform.
That's not the whole of it, though. Dead broke parties can still have a fantastic ground game. It's a whole lot of inglorious low level work; you and your team will bust your ass, and CNN isn't going to be dedicating it's afternoon segment to your great ground game efforts in return. It's easier, much more self-aggrandizing and probably far more convenient for Trump to just do the clownshoes thing and sit around on a news network set for most of a week (the trade-off being that sitting around on network sets will not actually win you an election).

Funnily enough, in the past week I have seen a JFK campaign billboard on my way to work. I finally figured out, from managing to catch a look at the URL they printed at the bottom of the bilboard, that it's an advertisement for a new exhibit at the Sixth Floor Museum

80 million doesn't go very far in a month when you consider how many voters you're trying to reach over a very large geographical area.
The only places I've seen actual official Trump signs were on a couple of vacant lots and an abandoned gas station.
