You might be surprised how many vocal climate change detractors have PhDs in the supposed "Hard" sciences.
I mean I hate to detract from my own sense of superiority, but frankly a hard sciences phd doesn't mean much. Probably the person has very much above average quantitative skill (or works hard to compensate), but they doesn't necessarily know anything outside their very specific thesis topic and may not even know that as well as you'd think. Nor are they necessarily capable or willing to acquire that knowledge. Nor would they necessarily have better raw insight into any particular topic.
Seeing how the sausage was made really changed my view of PhDs.
