Everyone's favorite voice, Adam Jensen, has returned in two ways this month

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the new full title in the series, a direct sequel to 2011's Human Revolution, releasing on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 next week

Deus Ex GO is the new entry in the surprisingly-good series of Square Enix mobile adaptations that have touched the Hitman, Tomb Raider, and now Deus Ex series, available now for $5 on iOS and Android

They made another sequel to Deus Ex and most people liked it and it was a miracle, they can probably pull it off again with this game

But no Deus Ex thread is complete without paying tribute to Ion Austin's 2000 original game, a landmark in the entire medium of games, a towering achievement that should be spoken about in hushed tones, with all the reverence it deserves

I will wait for the reviews I think, the last one was just blah and disappointing.

I really liked the first (DX:HR)

I shall add this to the list of games to get once I upgrade my PC

    Just preordered this

A lot of the marketing for this game has been embarrassing, but Human Revolution is in my all-time top 10. Gameplay-wise, it looks like a lot more of that, so I'm in

I'm excited for this but might skip it for now? I still haven't beaten the first one, I was in the middle of the missing link DLC when I fell off. Just to get up to the point where missing link happens in the story took me like 60 hours cause I went hardcore down the stealth route, I got the ghost bonus like 80% of the time.

Basically I need to force myself to play this game loud but it looks like they made the stealth stuff even cooler than last time.

Oh I should mention that I've been playing GO, and I think it's my favorite of all 3 of them

I very nearly preordered this because GMG had it for $45. But I really don't want to give S-E those preorders given how manipulative they are with that sort of thing. Plus there's a small chance it could turn out to be bad.

Really looking forward to this though.

I cannot relate to this at all. Human Revolution was one of my favorite games of last gen.

GMG has it for me for $36. That's crazy.

I really really liked Human Revolution

But their marketing and how they're pushing their story for this sequel has kind of put me off

So I'll wait and see if it's any good first

There IS some question about that, after that Thief reboot

Whoa okay there is noooooo reason for me to buy on Steam then

Even if I can't preload or play on Monday night, that is pretty worth saving 25 bucks

It's pushing me to buy it too, since it will be a while before it's 40% off again.

The version with the season pass is like $60 on GMG right now.

    No I don't.

are there reviews out in the wild yet? i will probably buy it because deus ex + i liked HR but i'm curious if they worked on the aspects of HR that didn't live up the original (level design)

Shameful pursuits and utterly stupid opinions

I'm so looking forward to this. I even asked for it.

I don't buy many games "new" anymore, but this is one that I can't wait for. Also sort of really hoping that DXGO gets ported onto windows like the previous GOs because it looks pretty nice and has some sort of extra Praxis points unlocks according to the end of the DXMD launch trailer.

can't wait for what ultra weird Elias Toufexis line reading will catch on this time

"yeah, RIP" is mostly on him

Also I hope whatever guy plays Sarif leans way into that stranger surfer vibe

Although sadly the OG Sarif is no longer in the cast :( something about being difficult to work with or drugs or bad/uncomfortable press, it's not super clear, but he's been dropped and replaced with someone else.

I get why he's not reprising the role, but anyone other than Shellen as Sarif is going to be a tough pill to swallow for me.

  • OmnipotentBagelOmnipotentBagel floof Registered User regular
The goofy voice-acting in Human Revolution was great (well, except that one, but that wasn't so much goofy as it was just awful on pretty much every level). Hopefully the new actor has some fun with the vibe of the original, like Billy West's Zapp Brannigan to Phil Hartman's everything-he-did-on-The-Simpsons.

  • Mr. GMr. G Registered User regular
    Wait, Sarif is Garrus now?

    ...I can live with that

So this game need 3 fixes and I will be all over it

-Your power meter recharges and is not tied to a limited number of consumables

-Boss battles don't suck and can actually be approached differently

    - Being agressive in combat is possible(ie you can be hit more than twice)

They already fixed this in Human Revolution with the Director's Cut

and the Titan Shield seems like it will fix #3, you can basically put on a giant rock full-body exosuit for combat

At least they didn't just drop the character. This would definitely be a lesser game sans-Sarif.

I basically had to play the last one splinter cell style because Adam would fold pretty quick in a fight.

Just stealth murdering people or in a pinch ambushing groups and murdering them at close range.

I don't think I ever survived a straight gun fight.

If I was getting bogged down, trading fire with mercs/gang members, I'd just fall back and either lure them into a kill box (like a door entrance) or loop round and hit them on the flank/rear.

  • KarlKarl Registered User regular
Also here's to hoping that DX HR and DX MD are leading to a reboot of the original and DX IW
    All the acronyms

  • KarlKarl Registered User regular
Or for extra combat fun in DX: HR

Hack the turret control and take 5.

    Let them do the work

  • Mr. GMr. G Registered User regular
I'm very excited for this game, and I'm also very excited for the many articles from people like Austin Walker tearing the writing apart, cause oh man does everything about it narratively seem super tone deaf and bad

  • OmnipotentBagelOmnipotentBagel floof Registered User regular
I would be all about a modern remake of the original Deus Ex. People talk highly of that game, but I find it to be really difficult to actually play, whereas Human Revolution was nearly perfect to me.

Deus Ex has not aged great, game play wise.

But the I love it so

When I see previews of the game, I'm all like, "Yes, yes I want this." But then they pull some shit like "Augs Lives Matter" and I'm like what the fuck are you people doooooooooooooing.

Well...I never expect marketing to be anything but tone deaf and safe at best and offensive at worst.

I'm also skeptical about a team of game writers being able to tackle "issues" in a tactful manner.

But boy do I love some cyberpunk.

The writing in Human Revolution was bad too, but it was "just" a complete non-entity

If I like a game's gameplay I have a tendency to ignore story content, so I only actually remember bits and pieces of the DX:HR story. Which is, I think, the best way to experience that story.
